Is government your nanny?

  • Follow Letters

Oct. 30 marks an important day in American history. It is a day that we must recognize to be a crescendo to the end of self-reliance, working for a better life and setting a good example for your children.

On this day in 2008, Peggy Joseph of Florida took her daughter out of school to attend a rally that had two then-U.S. senators as its headliners – Joseph Biden and Barack Obama. While being interviewed by an NBC reporter after Obama read from a set of teleprompters, Ms. Joseph said, “It was the most memorable time of my life. … I never thought this day would ever happen. I won’t have to worry about putting gas in my car. I won’t have to worry about paying my mortgage. You know – if I help him, he’s gonna help me.”

Really?

“If I help him, he’s gonna help me”? How? Does she really think Barack Obama will eliminate her mortgage and send her gas money? Maybe if Peggy asks nicely, he may do her laundry and prepare her meals too. Since I brought it up, has he been paying her mortgage and has he ascertained that her tank is always full?

I don’t know what’s sadder – that she actually said and believed in what she said, or she has offspring being force-fed this rubbish, if not brainwashed, to believe that the government is to provide for her and dictate her happiness.

Peggy Joseph is just one of many who are woefully ignorant, and perhaps even lazy and refuse to go out there and do something for themselves and their families, but instead have chosen to have their way of life dictated by an overreaching federal government.

How far we have come from the Fourth of July to Peggy and the Thirtieth of October. God help the next generation!

Exactly what I've been saying

Exactly what I've been saying all along!! The self titled "Champions of the poor" (democrats) have done absolutely NOTHING to help the poor. Obama has been in office over 4 years now; the rich are still getting richer and the poor are exactly the same. This "Savior" of theirs, hasn't done anything he promised!! But that is the problem; it doesn't matter what they actually do, it's all about perception!! He is percieved as being a great leader and champion of the poor, so it doesn't matter whether he actually is or not.

But not only were the people stupid enough to believe it one time, but they believed it TWICE!!! Unfortunately, we get the government we deserve. Some of us, certainly deserve it more than others. These idiots who bought into this non-sense that life was going to change because of Obama, are the exact reason we are in this economic mess!! They are too stupid to realize ONE MAN will never change their lives!! One man is not going to take away ALL their problems.

There is a difference in stupidity and ignorance.

Stupidity is forever and ignorance is temporary and can be overcome with knowledge. Unfortunately, most of the Obama worshipers are just flat stupid.

Too many people think the government, i.e., the taxpayer is looked at is Uncle Sugar and just because they have graced us with their living presence he they are entitled to a living supported by the producers. Not only them but all their bastardized, illegitimate children.

Remember during the debate between President H. W. Bush and candidate Bill Clinton when the pony-tailed guy stood up to ask a question and prefererenced it with "We are your children and you are our parent. What are you going to do..." and then went on about some type of nanny state idea? There are so many people who have no idea of the founding principles of this country...only what they and their ancestors have been fed since FDR and continued by the Democrats up until today.

The elitist governing body

The elitist governing body has found a way to keep themselves in office for a lifetime, enriching themselves while lying to the very people that put then in office and keep re-electing them.

Some are republicans in name only but most are democrats. Their job is to sell their constituents a bill of goods and never deliver, or deliver enough crumbs to pacify them into voting them back into office.

This is a cycle that is perpetuated by a generational legacy. These charlaton politicans know that they will never deliver what they promised but it does not matter because there will be another generation raised up by the previous generation of ignorant voters to carry on the tradition of voting for these same people.

This vicious cycle never falters because the Dems. run the government schools and indocrinates the dumb masses daily.

The elitist media joins the cursade in supporting lefist ideas and this cycle of never ending lies by democrats and others becomes the norm.

Alexander Tytler is credited for this quote;

“From bondage to spiritual faith;
From spiritual faith to great courage;
From courage to liberty;
From liberty to abundance;
From abundance to complacency;
From complacency to apathy;
From apathy to dependence;
From dependence back into bondage.”

And the GOP has Lee Benedict.

And the GOP has Lee Benedict. Ms. Joseph seemed to know no better and was happy. Mr. Benedict is angry and bitter. There are the ignorant and fools on both sides. Ms. Joseph showed it once. Mr. Benedict proudly demonstrates it on a monthly basis on the pages of the Augusta Chronicle. A monthly diatribe of hate, lies, distortion, conspiracy theories, and typical Tea Party nonsense. The paper must have lost every letter he wrote whining about the cost of every golf ball that Bush lost in a water hazard.

Two types of people

There are givers, and there are takers. Unfortunately, the takers are pretty close in numbers than the givers. At some point, this system will become unstatainable, and will collapse. I once heard a taker say that welfare and food stamps were his "civil rights". It's his "civil right" to be lazy minded and take from society. Peggy Joseph is part of a generation that grew up with this mindset, and the current generation is learning even worse. It's what their parents, neighbors, government, and media are teaching them, and they blindly follow. Do I have pity for the "Woefully ignorant"? I'm sorry, but not when they become so arrogant. Little do they know that they will be the first casualties, like sheep at the front of the slaughter line.

A local radio person bragged

A local radio person bragged that his daughter skipped school to go to rally where Sarah Palin spoke.

Isn't it nice that we live in a country where these kind of parental decisions can be made, even if the rest of us don't agree?

Not a rational argument unless you are one who just likes to rant.

Givers and Takers

It's pretty clear who are the givers and the takers in our country. The takers are the politicians who endeavor daily to eliminate or curtail programs designed to assist the elderly, the sick, the veterans, the children, and those who have lost their jobs -- the same politicians who have voted 39 times (maybe 50 by now) to destroy the ACA, which is aimed at providing health care for the poor and sick. The takers are the politicians who seek to cut medicare and social security, which the elderly paid into their entire lives and now depend on in their final years of life -- the same ones who refuse to extend Medicaid to help the residents of their own states. The takers are the politicians who oppose increasing minimum wage and simultaneously try to cut a program that provides underpaid workers with $200 per month in food stamps. The takers are the 1% who benefit from government programs designed to enrich and protect them -- like the 32 corporations that dodged $72 billion in taxes than they owed in 2012. The takers are the corporations who reduce worker hours and salaries to a starvation level and refuse to offer them health insurance, while raking in billions and paying their executives millions.

Ms. Joseph was misinformed. These takers are not only well-informed, they are evil.

You may not agree with

You may not agree with Peggy's motivation for voting for Obama but do not pretend that you are not motivated by your own interest when you vote. The altruistic position would be to vote in the best interest of the nation, that is what I try to do, but we see what happens when lawmakers try to make policy based on the interest of the nation. We get a shutdown. Most get "scored" by the NRA, Heritage Group, etc., then they vote the way the conservative establishment dictates. Now pick your adjective to describe those individuals.

"eliminate or curtail

"eliminate or curtail programs designed to assist the elderly, the sick, the veterans, the children, and those who have lost their jobs -- "

No, we a perfectly happy to help those folks.......and we could do a really good job of it if we could get the lazy welfare slugs off of the government teat. Unfortunately the Democrats steal our money telling us they want to help the former but end of giving it to the latter and still leave the elderly and veterans in a lurch.

"First you were angry that Obama promised people "stuff" and now you are angry that he has not given them any "stuff.""

No, we are angry that Obama promised people stuff and that there are so many stupid people that believed the liar......AND that now that everything he has said and done has been exposed as a lie and a failure those same stupid people still support him.

New Flash this A.M.........Back in 2010 Obama and the Democrat already knew that 60% of the people with private insurance would lose their insurance....even as Obama continued to lie and say "if you like your insurance you can keep your insurance". Now hundreds of thousands have had their private insurance canceled and may well have a lapse in coverage because of the total incompetence of the Obama administration to get Obamacare, the health insurance program conceived in lies and deceit and rammed down our throats in the middle of the night, up and running.

truth matters and dank

you sure are generous with MY money
parasitic altruism
the tax on corporations eventually comes out of MY pocket
the increase in food stamps comes out of MY pocket
the "free" health insurance comes out of MY pocket
the way democrats cheat black kids in public schools
comes out of MY pocket
the incredible deficits will come out of MY pocket
and my childrens and grandchildrens and great great grandchildren's pockets
you are stealing from people who haven't even been born yet
how low can a human get?
you want better access to health care?
improve the education system so we can get more doctors
you want less people on food stamps?
improve the education system so people can get better jobs
you used the word "evil"
well, i'll acknowledge your adolescence
but the true "EVIL" is in not educating our young
and the democrats can only be described as the last vestige
of Racism in this country
because they took charge of education
and fail so well
at educating black kids
evil indeed
you should be ashamed

Bodhisattva - Please explain a comment.

In your comment above you used the Phrase "....and typical Tea Party nonsense. "

What part of the Tea Party Official agenda is nonsense to you?

Is it the TEA Party founding statement?
"The Tea Party Movement is an all-inclusive American grassroots movement with the belief that everyone is created equal and deserves an equal opportunity to thrive in these United States where they may “pursue life, liberty and happiness” as stated in the Declaration of Independence and guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States. " ....What part of this is NONSENSE to you?

OR MAYBE IT IS ONE OF THE FOLLOWING?
1. Eliminate Excessive Taxes
2. Balance the budget
3. Abide by the Constitution of the United States
4. Promote Civic Responsibility
5. Reduce the Overall Size of The Federal Government

Yes, In general the movement is considered conservative as well as libertarian, But which part is Nonsense to you?

Serious besides just tossing out a rehearsed Anti- TEA Party Line. What do you find NONSENSE about what they officially stand
for ?

Heck The Tea Party has been so successful and worries so many tax and spend politicians that organized efforts have been caught building false web sites claiming to be TEA Party related and trying to confuse the public with made up goals that are not official Tea Party's goals.

But seriously what part of, What the TEA PARTY Officially stands for is NONSENSE to you?

NANNY STATE

I've never asked for or wanted anything other than to provide for my family and myself. I've never looked for the government or anyone else to do what I should do for myself. We've created a system where generations of people have lost the will or desire to take care of themselves and their children.
Johnston started this mess and dems have pushed it even further for political gain. I can't imagine this will go on much longer before the bottom drops out and the free stuff ends. There will be riots and screaming but sooner or later the gravy train will run out of fuel.
