Our arts festivals excelled

As the music of Les Misérables marches on in our heads, and the memories of Arts in the Heart and the Westobou Festival linger, let’s take a moment to reflect on and commend the talent and commitment of the arts community in Augusta.

Les Mis was presented by both Le Chat Noir and the Augusta Players, and each production was outstanding in the quality of the singing, acting, casting, costumes and staging. And bravo to the Augusta community for the amazing support – every performance was sold out! It should be noted, too, that many members of the casts were spotted at each others’ performances – a tribute to their character and mutual respect.

Likewise, Arts in the Heart and the Westobou Festival were wonderful, high-quality, labor-intensive “productions” involving creativity, talent, hard work and community support. This year’s offerings proved to be interesting, stimulating, varied, creative and of high quality. Arts in the Heart drew an estimated 77,000 attendees, and the Westobou Color Run alone reportedly had 7,000 participants! How’s that for proving Augusta to be a vibrant, creative community with thriving arts and fun things to do?

So please remember and keep supporting these quality-of-life factors that attract businesses, grants, creatives and philanthropists – and make us happy and proud.

I'm not an "artsy" type

I'm not an "artsy" type person, but have made it to the last 2 Arts In the Heart festivals and had an awesome time.. I love eating and enjoy a sampling of as many different foods as possible in one location. I wish there was a little more seating, but still very enjoyable. I WILL be back year after year.
