Dems won't compromise

I have watched with much interest the recent battling in Congress over the budget.

I know the Republicans first tried to defund Obamacare completely. This was rejected by the Senate. During the past few days the president talked about the need for the sides to compromise to keep from shutting down the government.

During this time, I had the honor to be on a phone town hall meeting with U.S. Rep. John Barrow and heard him cover his stance on Obamacare. He said he did not support Obamacare and had voted against it on every occasion. Rep. Barrow went on to say
that Congress needs to work together to solve problems.

The Republican-controlled House tried to compromise and agreed to fund part of Obamacare. Again this was rejected by the Senate.

On the last day before the shutdown, the Republicans again tried to compromise. This time  all they wanted was to delay the implementation of  the individual mandate and for Congress to not be exempt from the law. This also was rejected by the Senate.

It seems to me that only one side was trying to compromise. Funny thing – the president already has delayed full implementation of Obamacare by exempting big business and labor unions for a year.

Recently, I heard part of a news conference in which a White House spokesman was asked if the president felt responsible for the government shutdown. He answered “Why? He didn’t vote on it.”

He is right. The Democrats in the Senate are the ones who are set on shutting down the government and not willing to compromise.
