No, the Affordable Care Act will not destroy jobs. Yes, it will have glitches. Yes, they will be worked out. Yes, it actually will help small businesses by enabling employers to once again offer insurance plans to their employees as competition drives costs down. Yes, premiums may go up for those who already have private insurance, but those costs would have gone up regardless of the Affordable Care Act.

No, the Affordable Care Act does not violate freedom of religion. Yes, it gives women the freedom to sensibly manage their reproductive health. No, the Affordable Care Act is not a “government handout.” It is an insurance plan that will be charged based on one’s ability to pay for it. It will enable millions of hard-working Americans who have been priced out of the market by an unjust system to visit a doctor in a timely manner instead of waiting until they are dying and then showing up at an emergency room.

No, the Affordable Care Act is not “government-run health care,” as it puts corrupt, profit-seeking, private insurance and pharmaceutical corporations solidly in the driver’s seat. No, the Affordable Care Act is not a socialist plot to destroy the country, Mom, and apple pie. Yes, the Affordable Care Act is inherently conservative, modeled on a plan devised by the Heritage Foundation. Yes, the Supreme Court has ruled that the Affordable Care Act is constitutional.

Yes, a majority of Americans want the Affordable Care Act, contrary to the lies and distortions of the conservative media. Yes, billionaire radical conservatives, who would destroy the country, are actively funding hateful, lie-filled negative ad campaigns to scare and confuse the public and sabotage the Affordable Care Act.

Yes, the Affordable Care Act is seriously flawed, as it is not the single-payer system this nation desperately needs, and basically does nothing to control costs. However, the Affordable Care Act is a long-overdue, sane and rational first step in the right direction.

The letter writer has obviously not been paying attention to

what people in the "real world" are saying about their experiences with Obamacare have been and has only spent time reading the bilge sprouted forth by the democrats and their minions. All of her comments are completely divorced from reality.

Thank you so much Joni for

Thank you so much Joni for setting the record straight. Time will prove you right. The only hope the republicans have is that it fails. You have to wonder about a county that hates its president so much that they would rather see the country go down than to see him succeed. Don't they realize the two are linked. I never thought I would see the day where so many so-called educated people could have so much hate directed at our president. They are almost at the point of admitting it and that is really sad. They don't care about fixing the ACA, only getting rid of it because it bears his name. The latest poll shows that people prefer the Affordable Care Act 5-1 over Obama Care. I guess there's something about that name. Joni, you have a blessed day and there are many of us in your court, especially those with health care issues that republicans don't seem to care about. Thank you for having an open mind and not being led by talk radio. (Rush)

was this corrupted from one of Stalin's 5 year plans?
yes, the harvest will be bountiful
no, farmers will not object to working for a lowly buearucrat
yes, peasants will gladly give half their toil to a buearucrat
no, there will not be rampant starvation
yes, peasants will be allowed to keep their current fields
no, the government will not kill anyone
yes, peasants will love the increased taxation
no, Stalin will not have purge panels

The writer uses talking

The writer uses talking points directly from the Democraps. There everything in this LTE comes straight from the democrat playbook and their cronies. If this person really believes this dribble she (Joni) is truly lost. She is willing to hand her life and the life of every citizen in America over to charlatans. Why she and many others that agree with her, can't see that this will destroy the economic fabric of our country, boggles the mind. Low information voter on display.

Gary, It won't even take 2

Gary, It won't even take 2 years. People are now seeing how "unaffordable" the affordable care act actually is but remember Obama's end game is a single payer system. I did learn that the if a person fails to sign up for Obama care the IRS can not only keep any tax refund he may have but they can electronically take money from any bank account the person many have. Remember, we had pass the bill to find out whats in the bill ! Americans will love this ! God help us.

EVEN AS a liberal, I have to say that Obamacare can be seen "as a government hand-out"!! I say, "FINALLY, Americans will be able to get health insurance for their families, BUT Obamacare IS GOING to cost tax payers much more than I had expected!!"

You should be the poster child for liberalism. If a person disagrees with a liberal he is "hateful" and" hates black people". The disagreement could not possibly be over substance. Who is the small minded one?

Competition vs. Single Payer

Although Ms. Ellsworth provides analysis with several absolutely wrong conclusions, I found it interesting that she feels that "competition" will lower premiums in the exchanges and then espouses a "single payer" as a final solution. If this "single payer" will not be "government run health care" what will it be for her?

Well well Joni..........nice

Well well Joni..........nice to hear from the Communist faction of the Democrat Socialist Party this morning. Of course, all of your facts are wrong but you spout the party line with perfection. ALL.....I say again ALL....of the polls still say, and have consistently said, that the MAJORITY of the American people DO NOT, I say again DO NOT, support the Affordable Care Act in it's current form.

Oh yes, a LOT of people say they want everyone to be able to get health insurance......AND THEN.....they are starting to see the PERSONAL COST.....OUT OF THEIR POCKETS.......and SUPPORT IS NOSE DIVING.

Single payer system equals ...

monopoly. Monopoly equals the absence of competition. The absence of competition equals mediocrity. We have had socialized medicine since the 1930s. The difference has been that it is VOLUNTARY, not forced upon us.

The tax credits given to those the poverty levels must be paid by taxpayers or, increasingly, by the borrowing authority of the federal government (that is also backed by the full faith and credit of the taxpayers through devaluing the dollar, a hidden tax). The federal government produces nothing; only the taxpayers produce. Liberals do like programs that someone else pays the tab, including their health insurance now.

That's why it becomes easier to place one's full faith in our leaders, divine Ceasars, from whence their substance comes.

This plan is neither sane nor rational....

...if it's such a great plan why has "Our Dear Ruler" issued over 2500 waivers to his cronies even exempting Congress!...

I also disagree with this writer on a another BIG point...it IS a pathway to single-payer..
Obama said himself while he was a state senator getting a plan like this in place was the first step toward the (his words not mine) "the goal of a single payer system"..

Pretty plain language.

Lastly, it sounds like the writer is perfectly cool with putting this plan in the "corrupt, profit-seeking"health care industry.'

..No I contend that is a canard designed to make us think the writer is a rational logical thinker..
The mere fact that this letter writer thinks that it is a good idea to up-end a system that serves 350 million people on ordeer to garner the votes of less than 30 million means that Libs care more about control than they do about your heal care..
If you think this plan is about helping you, you're delusional..

Sadly it seems most on the left are so blinded by hatred of conservatives that they will give up liberty in exchange for security...

Why, oh why don't we believe our adversaries and enemies

when they say what they are going to do and what their goals are? This goes for those on the left in DC and the Islamists who want to destroy Western Civilization. They tell us what they believe and want to accomplish and we just ignore it.

A Little Satire?

As an infrequent visitor to this site, I'm wondering if Jack234 in his 5:16 a.m. post was inserting some satire into the debate. He declared it well known that citizens prefer The Affordable Care Act to OBAMACARE by a ratio of 5:1. That is either a satiric response to Ms. Ellsworth's letter (for which he deserves accolades) or a remarkably uninformed and, frankly, stupid statement.

Joni gets it!

Great letter Joni. The comments on here condemning or insulting you are why letters like yours are so important. I know, and you know, that your letter makes intelligent, informed, educated rational points. The Tea Party has been very effective at keeping people misinformed about the true nature of the Affordable Care Act. And some of these are nice, kind people, I'm sure. Some are probably intelligent in many ways. Just not terribly astute about this issue. Or maybe driven by another agenda about a powerful law promoted by, and with a moniker that includes the name of, our first Black president. But that's another issue. . . maybe.
