Who's to blame? The voters

  • Follow Letters

Oct. 1 started a partial shutdown of the U.S. government because of a lack of a budget agreement. Democrats from the president down are blaming the Republicans. Republicans are blaming the Democrats.

This is happening all over this great country – people are wondering why the House and Senate cannot get their act together, and we as a whole blame the “other” party. If you are eligible to vote and don’t vote, then you have no business complaining about what the government does; you obviously don’t really care. If you are like me and vote in every election – and then you wonder why problems such as a government shutdown happen and look to blame someone for the problems – I would advise not to look to Washington and blame the Republicans in the House and Senate, nor to blame the Democrats in the House and Senate.

What I would recommend is for each individual to go look in the mirror. The person looking back at you is who is to blame! We, the American voters, are the ones who keep sending senators and representatives back to Washington time after time and expecting them to change. They won’t change as long as they have it so good. We the voters are the ones who have to do the changing.

Bruce H. Tedford

It has been said...

People get the government they deserve. Boy, do we deserve what we've got because we wanted to "punish" the people by staying home and pitching a fit because "our" candidate did not get nominated and "I'll show them" cost Romney the election.

"We the People" deserve Obama and his left wing statists because we did not insist the press and other parts of the media vet him and do a thorough back ground check of him and his record. They were so glad to push an "articulate, handsome black man" on us in order to prove they were not "racists".

Mr. Tedford, the Senate and president are doing exactly what the majority(a big one, no less) of voters elected them to do. The House of Representatives, of which the majority of representatives do NOT represent the majority of voters( only 49% of popular vote winning 54%of the seats), is trying to force the will of the minority, a few insane Tea Party crackpots who think they have a chance at the presidency, over the majority.

Obama won by 4 million votes in a Country of 318 million people and you call that "(a big one, no less)".

Right after the elections; even democrats like Chris Matthews were saying Obama didn't get the mandate they were hoping for because of the close election. But suddenly, you're saying he won by a "big" margin!! So Obamacare MUST be the saving grace for this Country, right?

This isn't about the election, it isn't about the debt ceiling, this is about the AFA. So have you look at the recent polls to see what percentage of people approve of the AFA? It doesn't favor your side, AT ALL!!

CNN Poll, less than ONE in FIVE American's say they will be better under Obamacare!!! This article was two days ago!! So, the American people do NOT want this Obamacare, but democrats are saying they absolutely will NOT BUDGE on Obamacare!!! Now, who exactly is it going againt the American people???? You still want to stick to that first comment?

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2013/10/01/cnn-poll-will-obamacare-...

Might I remind you, this is NOT a Fox News Poll!!

Another poll where 50% of American's oppose the AFA, as it is now written. 36 % supporting it and of course the others just don't know.

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/current_events/h...

Just google it man!! EVERY poll shows support for Obamacare has fell below 40%, with most saying around 35%; which is terrible for a bill American's are being FORCED to abide by!!

So, the majority of American's support defunding Obamacare as it stands now; republican's are fighting to do just that!!

So, Please tell me again how republicans are the ones going against the will of the people? Please explain it slowly and carefully, so a dummy like me can understand because I'm just not getting it.

Why don't you just admit it; you made that "majority" up in your head without doing the first second of research, didn't you? You just strongly support Obamacare, therefore you got on here and made inaccurate statements, to support your side because you thought it was worthy of a good lie. Or, maybe you truly believed since you support it, the majority of American's support it!! Either way, you're wrong!!

Rick Scott (R)- Governor of

Rick Scott (R)- Governor of Florida, the CEO who received the largest fine for Medicare fraud in history, the owner of clinics whose business model depended on seeing uninsured patients, spends millions of his own money with a constant barrage of commercials against the Affordable Care Act and forms Conservatives for Patients' Rights. In his commercials he lies and tries to compare the ACA to national healthcare and single payer systems and NEVER mentions his direct conflict of interest from his clinics and a number of other business interests. The usual list of right wing billionaires and millionaires pulls out the stops and spends and enormous amount to fight this bill. Viral emails, letters to the editor, right wing talking heads, and any other right wing source you can think of label it "Obamacare" and come out with the most outrageous list of lies and plain out bull you could think of about the bill. Scare tactic after scare tactic. Now, new scare tactic commercials pop up. It passed. It cleared the right wing SCOTUS. In the 2012 election the ACA was front and center as the number one issue. It was a nation wide referendum on the bill and the right wing lost. What it boils down to is this: The right wing has spent hundreds of millions, if not into the billions using the power of advertising and their propaganda network to make the term "Obamacare" a negative term in people's brains. It worked. Hurray for propaganda. But when you get down to it and go down the list of what is actually in the Affordable Care Act, people support it overwhelmingly. They've run a successful PR/propaganda campaign against a name. It's the substance that counts and people like the substance.

Bod, again, spot on. In two polls, where one referred to the ACA as Obamacare, the result was negative. Where it was explained and referred to as the ACA, it was much more positive. Republicans defamed a courageous war hero with lies and slander in order to win an election, why would it be any different when dealing with the ACA? Republicans don't know what the truth is! Look at the reasoning for the Iraq war......

We have over 400

We have over 400 representatives and of those 49 are members of the Tea party caucus and 71 are members of the Progressive caucus. So neither radical fringe group represents a majority of Americans and we should tar and feather all of them and run them out of town. hee, hee, hee. The govt is being held hostage by these two minority fringe radical groups.

"What I would recommend is for each individual to go look in the mirror"

I DO AGREE WITH THIS!! Voters are truly the ultimate ones to blame, BUT we believe the campaign promises and the partys' platforms!! WELL OVER 100 million voters ARE NOT going to do in-depth research on political candidates!! BUT this lack of research IS why we keep voting "THE WRONG WAY????". For a great example, "The Republican Party platform has been against abortion for decades. There have been two or three Rep. presidents during this platform item. WE STILL HAVE ABORTION!!" I am sure there is a great example in The Democratic platform as well!! BOTTOM LINE, the over-whelming majority of voters are going to believe in the promises and the platform!!

The fines levied on the company were for actions taken by the company BEFORE he took control of the company. By the way, all the progressives/leftists say that Obamacare is merely a first step to nationalized single payer "health care."

Unfortunately, just as we don't believe the Islamists when they say they want to destroy us we don't believe the left when they say what their goal is.

When will we learn to listen to what our enemies, for and domestic, say when they are trying to destroy our way of life?

Oh I agree tbledsoe Mitt was

Oh I agree tbledsoe Mitt was a poor choice for Rep. I wouldn't vote for him. But Obama had four years of failure under his belt so Mitt should have done much better logically-so it really just shows you how unpopular Mitt was-and that Mormon thing has always been an issue with Americans-the only group our America govt has kicked out of America-so they settled in Utah-which ironically later became a state. I don't think people really understand the long history of anti-mormon sentiments.

It is difficult to be in the public eye because our 'humanity" is easily exposed-playing games on cell phone, falling asleep, saying something that doesn't make sense and you generally realize soon after saying it, get caught scoping out a woman like Obama, Clinton, etc. It is our human nature-we aren't machines we screw up all the time. I think a lot of conservative Rep-especially the Christian component and their anti-mormonism, sat out the last election.

"Bod, again, spot on. In two polls, where one referred to the ACA as Obamacare, the result was negative."

Can you provide the link for these polls? I honestly would like to see them because the only one I know of like this; was done by Jimmy Kimmel and I wouldn't exactly trust my hard news to him.

Just like when Nancy Pelosi's daughter went to Mississippi for Bill Maher and interviewed potential Romney voters before the election; making them look like the biggest racists. It was found to be a HOAX and the people were told what to say!! Then Bill, being the comedian he is, played it off as satire!! Isn't that convenient, he never mentioned it being a joke BEFORE it was found to be fake!! Isn't that a good aspect of being a comedian, you can lie your butt off and if you get caught, you can say you were just joking and that's what you do, so people will believe it!!

Man, maybe that's why there are so many left wing comedians who also get into politics!!

But honestly, if there were two legitimate polls that showed this, I would like to see them.

It just shows what a sad stated America is in, when we are producing Obama/McCain and Obama/Romney as our candidates!! Then with Obama winning, it shows people will actually vote for a candidate simply because he is more charismatic, charming and better looking. If they were voting for substance, Obama would NEVER have won a single election!! But people don't care about the old school values anymore!! They don't care about honor, integrity, experience or moral values. Mainly BECAUSE of our politicians!! We've become so accustumed to being lied to by them, we don't know who or what to believe!!

I would still like to see them address that ALL polls show AFA is NOT popular by most Americans!! Even the CNN Poll I provided stated only ONE in FIVE American's believe it will help them at all.

But they still believe this is GOOD for America, why? Is this blind faith to a MAN? Most people don't like or want it, but because Obama signed it, it must be awesome?

Blind ideology, blind ideology. Like lemmings they would follow him to the pit of Hell. Goose stepping in unison over the abyss. Hee,hee, hee. I can play the inflammatory rhetoric game too. Poor Bush should have been so lucky as he became a lame duck president when everyone including his own party abandoned him. The Dems created their problems by bullying the ACA through Congress and it cost them the House with the creation of the Tea party. So blame Dems for all of this because the way they wrote the law. Just like Rep had to bear the blame and be punished for supporting Bush in Iraq by bullying Dems. Rep paid for their sins. Now we have Dems with their bullying sins coming home to roost. LOL.
