Letter accomplished nothing

  • Follow Letters

On Sept. 28, Lowell Greenbaum received “Featured Letter” status in The Augusta Chronicle to rant about U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (“Cruz is the new McCarthy”). I find it odd that he was allowed more than the rule of 300 words to express his thoughts. “There’s a great power in words, if you don’t hitch too many of them together” is a quote with a wise message.

Mr. Greenbaum’s diatribe was repetitive to the point of snoring boredom. It was rather like sitting in church and being told in the sermon that you need to come to church! I am a Republican with views quite the opposite as those espoused in the letter, and find that name-calling, gross hyperbole and muckraking only serves to build the user’s ego, and does nothing to solve problems.

That said, I do not approve of closing down the government as a means of trying to fend off Obamacare, and did not find Cruz’s approach helpful to the conservative cause. Hopefully some cool heads will prevail, and there will be a way to soften the train wreck of Obamacare. Since our president finds time to call Iran’s leader, sit down with Russian President Vladimir Putin, deal with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, shove the Benghazi murders under the table, chat on Hollywood talk shows, demonize Republicans at town meetings and play golf, that leaves little time to listen to the American people!

Too bad he will be remembered as the man with a golden tongue, and ears closed to all but those who agree completely with him. Quite a legacy!

Agree with all …

Except blaming Cruz for the shutdown. All Cruz is doing is standing up for sound principal. It is Harry Reid that said he will go along with any proposal that is his and President Obama that said “I will not negotiate …” (in reference to Republicans, not Iranians)

The Republicans have made numerous proposals. The Democrats one; go along with us – then afterward, we’ll discuss it.

Republicans who don't want to fight back against the insanity that is Washington DC argue that doing so will cost us in the next election. So the choice is having Democrats take over in the next election OR having Republicans represent us as an arm of the Democratic Party? What is the difference?

It is the GOP shutting down

It is the GOP shutting down the government with demands. There is not one demand that Dems or the president have asked to be met in order to keep the government running.

The Dems are not threatening to shut down the government until the GOP agrees to gun control, Voter rights legislation or Abortion rights ... or fill in the blanks..

The GOP, if allowed to continue this, would set a dangerous precedent anytime a small faction, be they Dems or Republican, behaved like this to get its way and the country be damned. Enough is enough.

Truth Matters,
you might want to look up current events. The last Republican proposal was to fund averything including Obamacrap, but would remove the subsidies set up for congress and big business and the Dems. refused. They want it all at the tax payers expense. Now tell me how fair is it that those rich politicans and big business get a subsidie on Obamacrap and the rest of us can not.

Some people didn't

catch any of the 21+ hour speech, did they. No teleprompter, just facts!

So far, I am very impressed with Ted Cruz. But because he’s so new to Washington, I’m not planting all my faith in him yet. Too many with great intentions go, only to be swallowed up by the greed and corruption.

We need to pay attention to acts, not talk.

Truth?

"Abortion Rights"? That was settled in 1973. SCOTUS ruled that women do have that right.

That progressive mantra now is about whether someone has the right to reach into my pocket to pay for it. That, no-one has a "right" to.

Truth matters, being a little

Truth matters, being a little selective aren't we? Reagan refused to sign budget laws enacted by congress and he was accused of shutting down government, well was it Reagan or was it those that passed the laws knowing they would be vetoed? Now lets not forget that Obama care a house bill was passed in the Senate by reconciliation, method used to passed spending bills to reduce procedural time etc. So don't give me a song and dance about propriety !

They will not listen to us!!

They will not listen to us!! Why? Because their "messsiah" signed this health care bill into law. Do you not realize, they will NEVER admit their messiah did anything wrong? I fully expect they will try to exempt him from the 8 year term limit, especially if the get control of the house in 2014. That's probably their entire plan with government shut. They WANT it to hurt the American Citizen as much as possible, so they can blame it on republicans and win 2014. If they accomplish this (and I expect they will); it wouldn't shock me to see them vote on the 8 year term limit.

When people honestly worship a MAN, as they do Obama; nothing would surprise me.

No, it's not called that, Walter.

It's called balance of power among the branches of government. Does that even ring a bell for you? Think 9th grade civics.

Congress is acting to protect the people of America from the predations of the greedy sleaze of the executive branch and its equally greedy and soulless Senate groupies.

Those vilified people are pretty much our last hope for a return to a reasonable economy, to say nothing of actual prosperity. Obacommie and his trusty lefty toadies are hellbent on making every last American a grasping, witless entitlement wuss, living and dying according to the idiotic whims of arrogant hypocrites like Michef O, Numbskull Pelosi and Harry the Hater Reid.

God help us all if the House falls to them.

Walterbradfordcannon, The Republicans have offered, Fund the Government no Obama care, Fund the Government full funding for Obama care but NO waivers, delays of subsidy for the Congress, and the Republicans have offered to fund parts of Government. The Democrats won't even respond to these. Don't forget it was the Senate under Reid that did not produce a budget for 4 years in violation of the constitution.

So let me get this straight.

So let me get this straight. The Senate has finally produced a budget after a 4 year hiatus and will accept nothing but the House just accept this as a clean bill. What planet are they from-just roll over House because its our way or the highway? Gosh usually they are fighting over the pork they are going to stuff in the bill. Now the president argues the Rep are shutting down the govt because they want to prevent the implementation of the ACA, but in reality the only person who has prevented the implementation is Obama himself. So is the logic that the Congress has no authority to change existing law but the President can unilaterally cherry pick what parts of any law to implement? That doesn't seem "fair" and a lame argument. Oh these bad Rep are shutting down the govt because they want to prevent the implementation of one part of Obamacare-although ignore the fact I've unilaterally delayed the implementation Congress mandate, employer mandate, pre-existing conditions mandate, etc. etc. etc. What a hypocrite. It seems obvious the Dems want the govt to completely shutdown to blame Rep-as they ignore House efforts to restore 85% of the govt. So who won't deal, who is allowing the shutdown ignoring restoration efforts, who is ignoring a simple request to conference over the bill as constitutional. The Senate Dems and Obama are using this just the sequester.

The House just asked for

The House just asked for another delay like one of many Obama's delays. It should be all or nothing. Either we allow the President and House to have their delays or no delays and law currently stands and needs to be implemented. It is the only "Fair" thing to do.

Haven't you guys learned not to read Greenbaum's stuff!

Or, do you just want to get mad at the liberal democratic stuff that spews from his upper large opening where his foot should always be in place. You wouldn't expect anything less from the local leader of a party that is slowly taking our nation down to zero a little at a time.

Made this statement of fact, and posed this question to Truth Matters:

"The last Republican proposal was to fund averything including Obamacrap, but would remove the subsidies set up for congress and big business and the Dems. refused. They want it all at the tax payers expense. Now tell me how fair is it that those rich politicans and big business get a subsidie on Obamacrap and the rest of us can not."

Almost 12 hours and no response from "Truth". My guess is he's frantically searching liberal websites for talking points to combat that very unpleasant FACT, instead of just admitting how sleazy the Dims are.

I could be wrong though - he may not care, as long as we move to a more statist style of government.

"There is not one demand that Dems or the president

have asked to be met in order to keep the government running."

.
Actually, all the Dems and OzBama have asked for from the Republicans is complete and total surrender and capitulation. That shouldn't be so hard to do, should it?

Just give up and give in to the LPM's. The leaches, parasites and moochers.

Then we can all live in glorious harmony. It's what the American people want! Ask any LPM.
