Have you no decency, GOP?

  • Follow Letters

In previous letters to the editor, I generally have tried to present the progressive view on a given subject without being overly partisan. Of course, the positions of the Democrats usually are closer to mine than the Republicans, but that has mostly been incidental.

In fact, I strongly believe that we are better off as a country with a strong, articulate and rational conservative viewpoint as a contrast to the progressive position. Debate improves proposals of both sides.

But in the current crisis, there is only one side – that of the American people. The Affordable Care Act was passed by both houses of Congress and signed into law by President Obama. The Supreme Court ruled it constitutional. The American people ratified it by re-electing Obama rather than Mitt Romney, who made the ACA his major position.

Now, a small group of members in the House of Representatives show that they believe in democracy only when they get their way. They have tried to blackmail the Senate and the executive branch and judicial branches of government by inflicting pain on ordinary people and the entire economy by shutting down the government.

I believe Republican leaders have said they have to kill the ACA now because they think it will work to help people afford health care. I repeat: They want to kill it because they think it will help people!

After numerous cuts to programs that provide the safety net for our most vulnerable, this latest attempt brings me to ask the question that Joseph Welch asked U.S. Sen. Joe McCarthy almost 60 years ago, “Have you no sense of decency, sir? At long last, have you left no sense of decency?”

The events of the next few days will supply the answer.

Truth never matters

"Sounds like people who want the Dems and President to agree to 1) allow the repeal of the ACA, or 2) Defund the ACA, or 3) delay implementation are saying to the millions who voted to re-elect the president and keep a democratic senate, that their vote/wishes don't matter."

Have you not look at ANY polls on the AFA?? Seriously? Just google it for petes sake!! There isn't a single polls showing even 40% support for the AFA. Most, even left wing CNN and MSNBC show support hovering around 35% with the opposition around 50%.

So, all those millions you say voted for the President and Senate, DON'T WANT IT!!!

They voted for Obama because he is young, cool, charismatic, good looking, etc. They certainly didn't vote for him because of his substance or experience, nor did they vote for him because of the AFA!! People in this Country are consumed with likeability, looks and charisma!! If you've got them, you've got a good shot!! George Clooney could probably be our next President, just by winking at people and smiling!!

The only valid point in this

The only valid point in this whole discussion is, that after seeing the numbers for the total cost to the taxpayers, and after seeing the numbers for the cost of the average Silver plan, the Affordable Care Act has proven to be ANYTHING BUT AFFORDABLE and needs to die before it crashes the economy. It is killing jobs and full time employment at a steadily increasing rate and has doubled in cost to the taxpayer since it was passed by the Democrats who proclaimed "we have to pass the bill to find out what's in it". Well we now know what is in it and MORE THAN HALF THE COUNTRY DOES NOT LIKE IT NOR DO THEY WANT IT.

"Have you no decency, GOP?"

Really? Someone on the left is going to ask this question?

The party that supports killing unborn children; is going to ask us if WE have any decency? Get your own parties morals in line, then ask someone else if they have decency!!! Enough said!!

This is what happens when

This is what happens when Demoncrats are allowed to be incharge. They Screw up things then blame the other guy. Classic bait and switch. But Conservatives have a problem also. They continue to believe that low information voters will grow a brain, come around, and begin to see the errors of their ways. Sorry, you guys, there is no hope for them, and they will drag us all under, example Obama and his thugg Democrap party.
So...under whose watch did the Great Recession happen?Republicans!
Whose "negotiations", read refusal to increase the debt limit so that we could pay debts already occurred, led to the lowering of our credit rating? Republicans.
Who make continual posts with constant insults, misspellings and lack of grammatical effort? REPUBLICANS!
Get a life, get an education and quit listening to liars and philanderers!
At least the Democrats refused to elect the low lifes in their party, Republicans continue to run people like McCain, Sanford and the old Newtster....you have no credibility when the people you put up for elections have no morals....and you're the "moral" majority? it is to laugh, HAHA!

Carcraft, Wiener was told
Unpublished

Carcraft, Wiener was told almost from the start that he didn't stand a snowball's chance of being elected, and, frankly, the Democrats have never run on a morals platform. He surely wasn't put up for election by the Democratic Party, whereas Sanford and McCain surely were. A party that does it's best to legislate on morals against homosexuals while not legislating against adultery, and bemoaning the breakdown of society, surely doesn't have much credibility in that department.....

So the Senate went to the

So the Senate went to the House earlier over conferees and was rejected-so that is bad correct? So now Harry Reid and Senate are doing the same thing refusing a conference. So to be consistent with your logic that failing to conference is bad-now the Senate is in trouble. Before though the House rejection wasn't over a govt shutdown. Now this bad deed that you admit is bad is being committed by Senate Dems-they could have prevented the shutdown and blamed it all on Rep coming out heroes. Now Rep are tying this to the debt limit. Now there are two thing Americans agree by majority-they don't like Obamacare and they don't like excessive govt spending. So if the House is wrong to refuse then the Senate is equally as bad for refusing to conference. The longer this shutdown last big govt suffers as an entity. People already hate Congress and they will blame their Savior Obama for not stepping in and bringing them to the table rather picking one side. You can't say I'm willing to work with Rep and bent over backwards when every time you mention their name you bludgeon them to death with a rhetoric hammer.

Copperhead I can only assume you were bit by a copperhead and are delirious. Hee,hee, hee. I get it-you hate physicians because everyone who lives in WestLake is a doctor, and you hate Republicans-just because they are against the communist principals proclaimed by progressives. After all the Communist Party USA has always supported Obama and Progressives claiming they have the same goals and ideology. Quack, quack, quack. Better than the toot, toot, toot of that Progressive train. That about sums it up.

GACop, yes a very liberal republican was president when the world wide depression began. By 1936 the rest of the world was out of the depression but FDR policies keep the US in a depression until WWII. FDR did one thing for the depression he put the GREAT in it.

Bush had nothing to do

Bush had nothing to do "directly" with the economic disaster-in fact even Wikipedia states he repeatedly warned Congress of such a disaster. But it did happen on his watch so he gets blamed with it. Just like "everything" that happens on Obama's watch he receives blame-he can blame anyone he wants but the reality is always the standing president is who the buck stops with. Our slowest economic recovery in history, our lack of action for the last terrorist attack on Americans in Benghazi, our rising national debt, our weaker standing internationally all now belong to Obama.

So the Senate refuses to take

So the Senate refuses to take up the bills and further if even they did Obama will veto them. But the House which is doing what the House constitutionally can do by changing and amending bills is somehow in the wrong. How many "clean" bills have either House or Senate ever passed-usually they are laden with pork.

YES, I do think IT IS "THE" solution to a lack of health care professionals!! People are intelligent enough to cut this rediculous amount of time to become a dr., Nurse Prac., or PA!! This time limit IS ALL just a ploy to keep people out of the profession!! And that is not my loony side talking "it's a fact"!!

Just one more ever-so-enlightened know-it-all

who thinks he has a far superior understanding of "how things work" regarding "what's best for everybody" than us plebeian conservatives.

This guy is no different than all the other bleeding heart liberals, no matter what they call themselves to conflate their intellectual egos. He simply can't fathom how anyone with a brain would refuse to applaud having the government simply steal our hard-earned money and give it to people who contribute nothing so that they can have everything we must work and save in order to acquire.

How dare we want to hang onto the standard of living we have worked so hard to attain! Even a modest one should be offered up on the altar of warm, fuzzy entitlement.

It's really sad that the Gop

It's really sad that the Gop would do something like this. This is not about the people, not about Obamacare, not about politics at all. This is a case where they can't get over this man being elected not once but twice. This has become personal and all they see is doing whatever to hurt the President. They are getting their paychecks and could care less about anyone else. If they want to have a debate over healthcare, have but do it without the strings. The hate for one man is so deep that they are willing to take the country down. The GOP will not win this one. I don't blame the President "Stand your Ground" the other Presidents didn't have to go through with this, why should he. The GOP need to know not to fight battles that they KNOW they can't win. 41 times they repealed Obamacare 41 times they lost now what part of that can't they understand.

I agree Fiat and what is

I agree Fiat and what is really insulting is they act like they support freedom when they really hate it. Oh no they only support favor for those they choose. Basically creating their own new "class" because lets face it they have no class so they have to steal it too. hee, hee, hee. Its ugly roots are in "social justice" that they rationalize and justify stealing as "wealth redistribution".
