Health care plan ruinous

  • Follow Letters

To get “affordable health care” passed, President Obama and the Democrats likely blackmailed and bought the last votes from the few Democrats who knew it was a bad idea. Now you are about to see health care that is not affordable and is going to wreck the budgets of virtually every American family.

Example: If you decide not to carry insurance you will have to pay a $95 penalty if you are single and $285 for a family, and you will have no insurance in 2014. In 2015 those penalties will increase to $325 if you are single and $975 for your family, and you still will have no insurance!

And it continues to go up every year. In 2016 it will be $695 if you are single and $2,085 for a family.

Read the article in the Sept. 29 Augusta Chronicle (“Are you covered?”). Look at the examples and imagine what your costs would be if you took the median-priced “silver” plan that pays 70 percent of your cost. I compared it to a week I spent at a local hospital in 2009 that cost more than $300,000. I had excellent coverage with my private health care plan, and my share of the bill was slightly over $6,000. If you get a $300,000 hospital bill under the silver “affordable” health care plan, you would own $90,000!

I was lied to. I can’t keep my plan. You can bet I’m voting to get rid of every Democrat I can in 2014 and 2016.

Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid will not even talk to the Republicans about modifying the Affordable Care Act, so please wake up and realize it is the Democrats who are responsible for this abomination of our health care and any government shutdown.

So please, let’s call it what it really is: the Democrat Health Care Plan. Remember that when you vote!

Richard T. Banks

I don't know how Mr. Banks figures that. Using the Kaiser calculator, out of pocket costs don't get anywhere close to that...and he can keep his insurance.

Obama has achieved his goal

Obama has achieved his goal of the division and destruction of America. We no longer live in the land of the free but now are the home of government dependence. He has brought daily shame to our patriotic spirit and left us wounded and broken. Time for a third party leader to rise, rally, and restore.

I have heard so many stories

I have heard so many stories about people who are so happy because they can now buy insurance. All the obstacles have been removed thanks to the ACA. Of course, there are minor adjustments to be made
and I'm sure the Republicans will work with the Democrats to perfect it.
We don't throw out the baby with the water and just forget about all the people that will benefit. Perhaps if Rush had never pinned the name "Obamacare" , it would be more acceptable to the tea party. This is a great day for health care and our great president.

'Elect me ...

And I will Fundamentally Change the United States of America'

He told us. A majority of voters wanted it. They got it.
It's sickening that the rest of us had to be dragged along with them.

True- We're fighting even most Republicans. Chambliss & Isakson from GA and Lindsey Graham of SC voted for Harry Reid’s cloture, just so they could later say “I voted to defund Obamare”, knowing that it won’t; a bold faced lie. Enough is enough.

It is third party time.

Don't blame republicans - they tried to help us

All across the nation this morning, lazy minded welfare "takers" are lining up for yet another free government handout. Meanwhile the government goes into a partial shut-down mode? This administration has failed us once again. Obama is an abomination. A cancerous tumor. To be a democrat now is shameful.

"I have heard so many stories about people who are so happy"

Gee! That's great. Only in order to make those people happy, millions of other hard working people are not! They are either losing their jobs altogether, or having their hours cut to part-time, meaning they'll need another part-time job. Only thing is, it was hard enough to find a job before. How much harder will it be now with so much more competition?

AND they may need a third part-time job to cover the additional taxes brought on by this wonderful program.

But it's OK - food stamp rolls have swollen to unbelievable amounts, so the government is 'taking care of us'. The government has returned to guaranteed loans for people that can’t afford houses to get them anyway; the same thing that caused the 2008 melt-down.

Add Obamacare costs to food stamps, corporate welfare and all the other give-aways, the US cannot continue to thrive as we had. WHO is going to pay for all this? Do you know where all this money comes from?

Government COSTS – it creates nothing. Every dime it has comes from us and we can’t afford it.

This is the fundamental change Barack Obama promised. It is redistribution, it is socialism and in time everyone will see it will not work!

A 2% co-pay. No deductibles,

A 2% co-pay. No deductibles, no other billing. I've had some pretty darn good jobs and some pretty darn good insurance but I've never seen a co-pay that low. Since Obama is term limited out and our 2 Senators are already Republican, on the national stage, the only Democrat you could vote out either year would be John Barrow and he's a Blue Dog. Whoopee. The House is so gerrymandered for the GOP it won't make a hill of beans difference. It will further show the strength of gerrymandering and how the GOP in the state has rigged a state that went 53%-45% for the GOP in the Presidential election but under represents its population by then having a Congressional delegation that would be 71%-29% GOP. Throw in the 2 Senators and you make it a 75%-25% split. Don't worry. The demographics are slowly changing. I'm sure everyone will remember how fairly districts were drawn and treat your side with equal fairness.

cause people gotta eat... they don't gotta work
but people gotta eat
never mind that collectivation never works
but hey, we're collectivizing the medical industry...
why stop there?
if it helps just a few democrats feel good about themselves
it will all be worth it...

Wasn't it P. T. Barnum who said,

"You never will go broke betting on the gullibility of the American people." or something like that?

When the government is playing Santa Claus as is Obama and the democrats, common sense and concern for the tax payer and actual accomplishments of any government program go out the window.

The moochers come out and swarm like ants on a sugar cube.

If the gullible and the Obama kool aid drinkers would take

off their rose colored glasses and look how people's insurance rates are sky rocketing and how some businesses are closing because they couldn't afford the health insurance under Obamacare maybe they would see the light of day. Of course, if a frog had wings he wouldn't bump his butt when he jumps so I'm asking too much of the Obama worshippers.

He is trying to reward his supporters and punish his enemies as shown by his waivering of almost 70% of the law for his friends.

Obamacare is like cancer in that if it is not treated, it will spread and kill the host.

Businesses are doing exactly

Businesses are doing exactly what Rush told them to do because he hates the president so much that he wants it to fail regardless of the cost to Americans. Obama Care is off and running because it I the law of our land. Thank you, Mr. President for caring so much for your fellow American. Healthcare.gov is ready for prime time and we are ready for it. I already have insurance and am keeping what I have and doctors. My doctors say they are going no way. God bless our president and America. So many people calling in to c-span expressing their gratitude.

This is a great day for America and our President. We owe so much to him for caring so much for his fellow Americans. So many people calling in to c-span expressing gratitude. Rush told businesses what to do to try to derail ACA. He really hate our beloved president. Healthcare.gov is off and running. This is a great day for America. The Republicans know people will like it to their dismay. Now that is mean and self-serving. I'm sure that President Obama will work out the glitches and Hillary will later. God bless our president and our country.

he limit on out-of-pocket

he limit on out-of-pocket costs, including deductibles and co-payments, was not supposed to exceed $6,350 for an individual and $12,700 for a family. But under a little-noticed ruling, federal officials have granted a one-year grace period to some insurers, allowing them to set higher limits, or no limit at all on some costs, in 2014.

Five insurers will sell

Five insurers will sell individual policies through the federal marketplace in Georgia: Alliant, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia, Humana, Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, and Peach State.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, about 1.7 million Georgia residents are uninsured and eligible to purchase insurance through the new marketplace. HHS estimates that 95 percent of those people would qualify for subsidies to purchase insurance through the exchange or be eligible for Medicaid through the expansion allowed by the Affordable Care Act-although Ga isn't increasing medicaid.

Health care and insurance in general

Too often are Social Security and Medicare recipients lumped in with welfare and Medicaid recipients. As we all know, OR SHOULD KNOW, Soc. Sec. and Medicare are taken out of pay checks, AND ARE SUPPOSEDLY, put into federal funds SPECIFICALLY for those programs!! NOW, let's look at welfare and Medicaid. If I am not mistaken, BOTH of these programs are supported TOTALLY with regular taxes!! SOOO, WE CAN STOP lumping the elderly and disabled in with people "ON THE DOLE" as British people call it!! I ask myself, as I wish you would ask yourself, "Is paying for Obamacare ANY MORE WRONG than paying for Medicaid??!!" I say, "NO!!" For decades now the tax payers have been paying for Medicaid, SOOO what is THE BIG UNFAIRNESS about Obamacare??!! This long over-due program will finally allow people, that need good health insurance, to buy it for their families. AND YES, if the program is run as it should be, some may even come off of Medicaid for the first time IN THEIR LIVES!! Again, paying for Obamacare IS NO MORE WRONG than paying for Medicaid!!

Unpublished

I hear...I can't keep my policy, millions are losing their jobs/getting hours cut. The responsibility for the statements should not be blamed on the ACA, but on the employers who are more concerned for their own profits. If they drop the insurance coverage you had, if they cut your hours or laid you off, blame the EMPLOYERS not the ACA. Employers all too often forget that it is the employees who make them their money. Rising costs are almost totally the responsibility of insurance companies, who raised their fees WELL ahead of any influence by the ACA. I can't for the life of me understand why the mantra that "WE have the best health care in the world" is continually bleated by those who constantly get ripped of by the insurance companies. Get a life folks, we're NOT number 1, we're at best number 32 in the world. Cuba gives better health care. Death panels? Sure...look directly at your insurance company, they've had them for years. I have a friend who's father is in critical care, dying. HE's had a LEGAL DNR for some time, yet the doctors have resuscitated him multiple times over the wishes of the patient and his family. Doctors, for the most part are in their profession for the money, and don't give a hoot about the Hypocratic oath. Insurance companies are evil, pure and simple, they serve no purpose except to take part of your money before giving it to the other side of the blood-sucking relationship, the medical profession. They are responsible for driving up the costs of health care, and should be eliminated, or better be made non-profit. They have colluded with the medical profession and the other insurance companies to fix prices and to deny care to those who are unable to afford it, and should, along with the medical profession be charged for price-fixing, and possibly for racketeering under the Rico Act.

"If you get a $300,000 hospital bill under the silver “affordable” health care plan, you would own $90,000!"

In my opinion, 300k hospital bills are much more rear than substantialy lower bills. Second, the Obamacare buyer can get the better coverage of the gold or the platinum plan.
