Declare national emergency

  • Follow Letters

Just the thought that our government might shut down is criminal – the criminals being the White House and Congress. It is unacceptable and something must be done about it.

I advise that The Augusta Chronicle, on behalf of the people, file suit with the U.S. Supreme Court declaring the country to be in a state of emergency; that the court name the military chief of the armed forces to run the government; that the White House and Congress report to and be under the supervision of that chief; and that the emergency period end in six months to give the White House and Congress time to reform the campaign and election system, the budgetary system and the running of the government.

Let’s hope the press will act in concert to force the White House and Congress to act sensibly and run the government for the long-term benefit of the people.

Dante Antonacci

Augusta

This isn't Russia, Egypt, or some other nondemocratic government. Go read your civics books, Mr. Antonacci. Better yet, move there.

There's something to this

There's something to this letter. He's being nonpartisan also. This could be thought of as a national emergency.

Don't panic. It's called

Don't panic, the earth will not fall off of its axis. It's called check and balance and is working as designed. Imagine what the US debt would be if the Dems still controlled the House and trumped anything sensible. I say don't delay Obamacare, let everyone start experiencing the wrath of "Affordable" health care.

There you go again

There you go again JimS.
Rambling on and on about the Tea Party. Name calling does not denote any reasonable thought processes. Are you afraid that one day Tea party canidates will be in control and set this country back on it's feet and requiring these leeches on our society to contribute.
Can you site anything this administration has done right. I don't think so. No, your rhetoric does nothing to advance the debate. Perhaps a bit of research on your part would do some good and might contribute some sort of substance to your point of view.

Yeah....being in favor of responsible spending and limited government is bad in the eyes of the liberals.

JimS....Could you please stop cutting and pasting the exact same post over and over.....it grows tiresome, and it violates the posting policy.

A govt shutdown will be great

A govt shutdown will be great so it can't do more damage. Maybe we can make it last a few years-anarchy would probably be better.

I wonder what department of government Dante Antonacci works for? Or perhaps he receives a government handout check he fears will be delayed if government "shuts down."

"Just the thought that our government might shut down is criminal – the criminals being the White House and Congress. It is unacceptable and something must be done about it"

This statement is very true. As Bill Clinton pointed out this week-end, the president can not "deal" when being held hostage. The president must stand on the law of the land; which is Obamacare; and congress must understand that. Granted, Obama has made "special" concisions that may very well be out of his right to make and the congress should stand firm on that point!! If there was a precident of THE PEOPLE being able to sue the government, this would probably be the best time ever!!

Unfortunately, I think our goverment is beyond repair

The people have no power. The politicians pass laws that they themselves don't have to follow. The president can bypass the constitution and declare any law he wants unconstitutional and refuse to enforce it. if our founding fathers were alive today they would revolt against the tyranny of what their ideas have become....it's pathetic.

The last thing this economy needs is a higher unemployment, BUT during the next government shut-down, a study should be conducted to see JUST HOW MANY of these beaurucrats are truly needed!!

I think these fools in DC

I think these fools in DC have been playing Chicken Little too long so no one gives a crap, and people have gotten use to "sequester" and want more so bring on a govt shutdown-maybe they can only work 3-6 months a year to save costs. They can take other jobs and work so their govt service is part-time as it use to be in the early years. The majority of people want small transparent government. Perhaps if they worked in the "real world" and had govt service as part time we would see different outcomes. Heck they waste more time than any baseball game-just no spittin' and scratchin'.

As much as I support

As much as I support vaccinations, I do find a problem with our science approach of Pharmacopia to solve health issues. Few drugs have been tested with their long term use nor interaction with other commonly used drugs. I think drugs should be short term to control and medical problem till another approach can be found. Even mental illness I wonder about the the utility of pharmacological approaches-generally a third improve, a third some change, and a third no change. It has become our mindset to have a "pill" for every problem. As we get older you find many who take handfuls of pills, then change physicians who takes you off all lamenting how many only to slowly get you back to a handful of new medications. Now I am not arguing against their use and utility just our abuse and not seeking other solutions to health issues. Like the abuse produced antibiotic resistance-if we had been smart we could have mitigated this.

The Senate will look foolish

The Senate will look foolish not supporting the House Bill with delaying the implementation of the individual mandate when they have delayed their Congressional mandate and the employer mandate. Splittin' hairs. Further this will be legal delay rather than Obama's illegal delays. I think Harry Reid is fixing to become the poster child for the government shutdown if they don't do anything and let the govt shutdown because they will make good on their extortion threat of not flooring anything but a "clean" bill. He couldn't really be that stupid to think that people will blame it on Rep in the House when they have the bill and drop the ball.

Tea Party Republicans have

Tea Party Republicans have made it clear that the only way the government isn't shutting down at midnight tonight is if President Obama agrees to delay the implementation of Obamacare. This reckless Republican behavior puts the country in serious economic danger, and it's clear that we can't continue in this direction for much longer, with these latest demands, not only have they gone too far, but the GOP has given us the perfect opportunity to fight back by showing just how crazy they really are. Our plan for the next month can help us do just that by: Running social media ads in Republican districts know exactly what their elected officials are doing in Washington. This plan is not just an opprtunity to knock down right - wing Republicans in the short term: this is an opportunity to strike a definitive blow to the gridlock that has plagued DC for the last three years.

Why isn't THIS considered reckless to you, kissofdeath? I mean, at least the TEA Party Republicans are trying to delay the law the LEGAL way, and not by illegal Executive fiat like the President did for his corporate buddies. Why is it reckless to give the rest of Americans the same brek that he gave the corporations?

Obama is already delaying

Obama is already delaying Obamacare himself-what's the difference if a House in Congress agrees? The House didn't ask to repeal the law but to delay the implementation of part-which Obama is already unilaterally delaying implementation of part too. The Dems have designed this to sting Rep but I think there is no logic. The teaparty is but one faction of the House and all their grandstanding did nothing. The House accepted the Senate bill but just asked for another delay as other parts are being delayed (their mandate delayed, employer mandate delayed). Either have no delay or allow all delays seems fair. The President can't unilaterally cherry pick what parts of laws to execute.
