Cruz is the new McCarthy

  • Follow Letters

McCarthyism is on the march again from within the leadership of the Republican Party. Oh no, you say, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz is from the Tea Party, not a Republican leader. Tell that to Sarah Palin and others who argue that Cruz is the new leader of the Republicans.

They point out how Cruz took the Senate floor for 21 hours, arguing that he had to stop Obamacare funding by shutting down the government. They are proud that he said that, unlike the world that refused to stop the Nazis in 1940, he would be the hero of America and stop Obamacare funding. (He is equating Obamacare to Hitler killing 6 million Jews and Christians.)

Is this man a fraud, as he was called by Republican U.S. Rep. Peter King of New York? I don’t think so. I have no doubt that he believes what he says and ultimately will resort to name-calling and characterizing those who oppose him as unpatriotic.

Like Joe McCarthy, he uses scare tactics to bully his way to the television news screens, despite all logic that these tactics are not only abusive but full of falsehoods. Like McCarthy in the 1950s, he is a dangerous zealot who will capture the ugliest right-wingers to his side, to the detriment of America. Why else would he argue to keep millions from Obamacare, including children younger than 26 of parents with health care, and those with chronic diseases who now are dropped from care? He as a senator has the best of health care, but will lie and spread propaganda to prevent Americans from having the same.

Fortunately, Republicans such as John McCain and most Democratic senators have figured him out. They know he doesn’t care if the government shuts down because it would satisfy his right-wing buddies who will, in their hatred for Obama and Obamacare, sacrifice the fiscal responsibilities of our government and destroy its integrity.

This time around, Cruz will be stopped. But hold on to your horses – he is just beginning his march on Obamacare, Social Security, food stamps, labor, immigration and the other programs that make this country the strongest there is.

We went through the McCarthy era, and we learned what a demagogue in power can do.

We also know that we have to beware of Cruz and his policies. This includes the Republicans, who have much at stake in coming elections and need to regain control of their party or again lose favor with the voters.

"This practice can be checked by a petition...

....to the Supreme Court to settle the question of Constitutionality."

More baloney.

The President has a Constitutional duty to enforce the laws passed by Congress. He has no right, nor authority, to pick and choose among them and decide which he likes, or doesn't like. This is what President Obama with his criminal Attorney General has done.

Article 1, Section 1 says, “All legislative Powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States.”

"Find me the language you

"Find me the language you invented in your 7:39 post. I thoroughly understand the legislative process. None of it includes the power to "shut down" the government. Only the President can make that decision."
--------
Holy mackerel! Harley, please take a civics course. The President CANNOT -- CAN NOT -- decide to "shut down" the gov't. CAN NOT. The President CAN veto an appropriations bill. This veto can only stand if a two-thirds majority does not override it, which requires at least one-third of each chamber to SUPPORT the veto.

LIKEWISE, the Congress CAN refuse to PASS an appropriations bill. All this requires is for a simple majority in a single chamber to not pass the bill.

So....You Admit You Invented The Language....

...you posted at 7:39 AND you admit the President is indeed the only person who can decide to "shut down" the government.

Good. It's about time. It's like pulling teeth with you.

Okay...I See The Doublespeak You're Attempting...

You say "Holy mackerel! Harley, please take a civics course. The President CANNOT -- CAN NOT -- decide to "shut down" the gov't. CAN NOT. The President CAN veto an appropriations bill."

You say (several times) he "CAN NOT," but in the next sentence you say he "CAN." Pick a lane. He either CAN (as I have been arguing) or he "CAN NOT" as you have incorrectly maintained.

ONLY the President CAN "shut down" the government as he threatens and there is NO possibility Congress can override. You know that, I know that, everybody knows that.

Why have you wasted so much time?

Harley, take a civics course,

Harley, take a civics course, and learn how our Constitution and gov't work. It is clear you do not understand these things. I do not intend that as an insult, but you are convinced that my basic description of the legislative process is my invention.

I am also 100% certain that you know that cannot means can not, so we have clearly arrived at a point where sensibility has fled.

Enjoy the rest of your evening.

"It is clear you do not understand these things."

I've forgotten more about civics than you've ever known.

So, just to put a period on it, you admit that if the government is "shut down" in the next few weeks it will be because Barack Obama decided to "shut it down."

Right?

Anyone who expects common sense and logic

from Mr. Greenbaum, obviously doesn't have both oars in the water.

Every letter the man writes is exactly the same as the last one. Only the names are changed.

One good thing, he seems to have gotten away from submitting letters under his wife's name in order to get around the one letter a month rule.

Maybe even he is tiring of his baseless, directionless harangues.

Burn that is from a legal

Burn that is from a legal argument by Obama so that he can pick and choose which laws he sees as constitutional- a lot like Bush lawyers making up stuff to justify torture. Obama is taking case law to an extreme and would set a bad precedence of every President from now on just picking laws they see as constitutional and ignore the rest exclaiming I unilaterally think it is unconstitional. The president can point out laws he thinks are unconstitional to Congress and ask they fix,but he can't over ride the SCOTUS. If the SCOTUS has ruled it is the law of the land and the president has to follow and execute the law- he has no authority to ignore and claim unconstitutional.

Wrong! He can do just that, IF he is not challenged. And with almost the entire media engaged in an OzBama love fest, that is what will almost certainly happen.

Burn - Harley is right -

you are dead wrong. Why not admit it?

Republicans desire to negotiate a path that a vast (and growing) majority of Americans see as helpful. They can't shut down the government just by offering up a bill.

On the other hand, Obama CAN shut things down just by arrogantly refusing to even talk to them. Just by holding to the position that he's right and "they" are wrong and not worth bargaining with.

Then he and his accomplices in the media will bombard the American public with "The nasty Republicans have shut down your government and women and children and veterans are suffering."

So predictable, yet so dishonest.

harley, the left is very good at stating lies as if they are the truth. But they have great example in the lying, racist, America hating, Marxist/communist in the WH.

myfather, I agree 100%. It is obvious that he is still in love with Castro. He reminds me of stuff on the bottom of the ocean. He came here and made a good living but he really hates this country.
