Syria affair grows absurd

  • Follow Letters

President Obama doesn’t want to take action against the Syrian regime because they are killing their own people. He wants to do it because they are killing their own people the wrong way. If they would just continue to shoot the rebels and their al-Qaida friends in the head, run over them with tanks or fill their guts with shrapnel, that would be fine and dandy. But since they used chemical weapons (isn’t napalm a chemical?), they somehow have crossed the unforgivable line that has been crossed so many times in the past.

For some strange reason, the world isn’t eager to cross the line to punish nations for using chemical weapons, even when they are outlawed. Perhaps that Nobel Peace Prize has gone to Obama’s head to where he feels he must lead the world into a kinder, gentler killing field.

The only thing stranger in this theater of the absurd is the confederacy of dunces known as the Tea Party, claiming Obama is leading the attack to draw attention from sequestration, Obamacare and the IRS scandal. Thank you, U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson, for again showing the world your inability to put a simple noun and verb together without looking like a buffoon.

Michael Ledo

Windsor, S.C.

Nice Letter But Childish Name Calling

It would have been a much better letter if you had left out the childish name calling concerning Joe Wilson. Ditto with the attacks on the Tea Party.

Riverman, yes indeed. The world moves on dispite Syria. E mails from Lois Leaner now indicate that she helped direct and targeted T party groups and the whole thing was orchestrated. The question is by who? Don't. Worry though the press is on it!

I also read that a Mn "health care guide " accidentally sent something like 25,000 people's personal financial information to an insurance agency by mistake. Didn't hear about that on the alphabet soup news shows did you?

Michael Ledo, your last

Michael Ledo,
your last paragraph has made anything legitimate in your letter, not worth commiting on.

Do all Americans want the US to be afraid of doing anything? I find this delima causing me to even battle within myself! It hasn't even been two months that I was saying "The US should stop being the world's police!" BUT when Assad gassed his own people, and Obama was looking for a way to "punish" him without boots on the ground, I saw this as being a cause that The US just could not look away from

Maybe if The US would do a limited strike, this action would help the FREEDOM FIGHTERS.

Obama DID NOT want to do anything in Syria, even when Republicans McCain and Graham wanted him to. The absolute biggest question in all of this is who are we really going to be helping??

.
Bledsoe, that may be a first for me. I might have given you a thumbs up before but if I did I don't remember.

Interesting that you bring up McCain and Graham. Both Republicans that I detest politically. Don't have any use for either of them.

As for who we are helping in Syria, the answer in simple. Republican or Democrat, the driving force behind any intervention in that area is always going to be the same, although neither side will admit it.

We want stability in the region in order to keep the oil flowing at what passes for a "fair" market price.

Democrats will tell us that they are doing whatever they do in order to prevent suffering and save human lives (secondly to prevent a threat to American security).

Republicans will tell us that they are doing whatever they do in order to prevent a threat to American security (secondly to prevent suffering and save human lives).

Both sides are presenting half-truths and deception in order to keep the oil rigs pumping and the strait of Hormuz and the Suez canal open and secure.

We wouldn't need to be there at all, and we wouldn't be there if we had the courage and leadership (and political unity) to open this nation to an all out drive for full and complete energy independence.

Independence, that is, to the exclusion of pie-in-the-sky phony "solutions" that rely on battery powered cars, solar power and the almost instant elimination of fossil fuels.

Fossil fuels will not be needed one day, but "that day" will not in your lifetime or mine (even if you were born last year).

Only the free market can bring "that day" about without decimating our national economy.

When oil, coal and natural gas become less efficient than wind, solar, etc; then "that day" will have arrived.

T3 and other liberals seem to

T3 and other liberals seem to forget that bombing Syria and helping a bunch of jihadists that HATE us and are worse than Assad was OBAMA'S idea!

"Perhaps that Nobel Peace Prize has gone to

Obama’s head......."

.
If it hasn't, it certainly should have. After all, he is the first recipient in the long history of the award to receive the Prize based on nothing (nothing at all) other than his perceived potential.

That hasn't worked out so well now has it?

Who would ever envisioned the Nobel Peace Prize as an affirmative action consolation gift?
