Get the real story? Where?

  • Follow Letters

Regarding the Aug. 6 letter to the editor “Color this editorial yellow,” by the Rev. Prescott E. Nead III, I must ask: Was this letter written in jest by the satirical news website The Onion? I laughed when I read it, and just have to give my take on it.

It appears to make the unfolding scandals phony by saying it would be uncovered by the 24/7 news organizations. Which one should I choose? MSNBC, where the lead evening presenter gets a thrill up his leg at the mention of President Obama? Or CNN, where Candy Crowley interjected herself and lied during the presidential debates? Maybe Al-Jazzeera’s English service. Or how about NBC – maybe it could divert resources from its upcoming Hillary Clinton mini-series.

I suggest Nead just turn on C-SPAN and watch the committees as they are stonewalled by the Obama administration on the release of documents.

Nead states that readers should just “Google” it to get the real story. Does he suggest the Huffington Post? The Daily Beast? The Daily Kos? I recently read a quote on the Internet attributed to Abraham Lincoln: “Anything you read on the Internet must be true.” That is, if we are one of the Rev. Nead’s “intelligent” readers. I believe Nead confuses “intelligent” with uninformed, low-information readers.

Allow me to draw his attention to the facts: It took a hostile but honest press from June 17, 1972, to Aug. 8, 1974 to bring down a president. Does he honestly think that today’s news organizations, in which network presidents have relatives who work for Obama, would actually investigate? Fox News can’t do it all. ...

I read the editorial Nead referred to (“Phony indignation,” Aug. 1), and it contains both pathos and logos, attributes of a good opinion piece. It is a far cry from yellow journalism. There were no “unnamed sources” or unabashed self-promotion, but rather an opinion, on an opinion page.

I have to wonder if the good Rev. Nead gets his information from one of those 24/7 news outlets that has opinion masquerading as news and no longer can tell the difference.

Further the more we find

Further the more we find about Benghazi the more distant becomes Hilary's chance to be prez. People are tired of legacy presidents too,so no to more Bushes and no to more Clinton's.

Hilary's chance to be prez

it's a lock... can not wait to see what bimbo's ( used as a generalized term of disapproval especially for an attractive but vacuous person) show up in the repub primaries to run against her. Like Trump said, repubs had better make a good choice in a candidate cause Hilary is going to be tough to beat.

Are you kidding me?

Like I've said before, EVEN I can see why Bill Clinton and Obama were voted in. Both are VERY charismatic, funny, good looking, possess silver tongues and THOSE are the reasons they were elected, especially Barack Obama!! Obama had little to NO experience in federal government. Both these men could make you laugh if you just found out 20 seconds ago, your mother died. Bill Clinton defeated Bush Sr (A dud), then Bob Dole (Super dud); G.W. Bush defeated Al Gore (Super dud) then John Kerry (Super dud) and Obama beat McCain (Super dud) then Romney (a dud). Romney was the closest thing to not being a dud, but we was still a stick in the mud!! These election were about popularity and likeability, period.

But Hillary??? You've got to be kidding me!! Hillary is NOT charismatic, unless you're a leftist ideologue as she is. She is NOT funny, she is NOT good looking, she certainly doesn't have the silver tongue (as evident with her "what difference does it make") comment. A silver tongue person is someone who says the right thing, all the time. Nope, she doesn't have that!!

I still stand by what I've said previously. American's have become so shallow, a Presidential Candidates SUBSTANCE doesn't matter at all. It's all about if they are LIKEABLE and COOL!! If they are, they're in!! So Hillary will NOT be near the given that people think she is. People thought she was the Heir to the Throne in 2008 and she was defeated by a charismatic new comer!!

But I will agree; the election will depend upon whether the republicans put forth someone who is also charismatic and funny. Now, I couldn't care less about charismatic and funny. I couldn't care less if the President ever laughs or even cracks a smile; as long as he could straighten this Country out. BUT, a candidate such as the will NOT win. So republicans have got to find a charismatic, funny guy or gal!! Maybe Christie is the man, because he has some of that!! WAY more than Hillary!!

I'm still hoping and supporting Dr. Ben Carson!!

"can not wait to see what

"can not wait to see what bimbo's ( used as a generalized term of disapproval especially for an attractive but vacuous person)"

Better translation: Used as a deragatory term towards ANY attractive conservative woman, whom threatens the stronghold LP's have on the Country!!

Sound about right?

Journalism

What is with this "yellow journalism" ?? NEWS is the NEWS !! Just because the ultra-conservatives don't like it, DOESN'T make it wrong !! Maybe The Republican Party should look into buying all of these so-called "LEFT-WING" news media !! This will put them in the same boat as countries THE GOVERNMENT controls the media !! You know, like all of the governments that Republicans are supposed to HATE !!

and too young to remember

and too young to remember Nixon- Bizkit, I'm 55 years old, I remember him well.

But I just wonder at the number of people on here that seem to expect that the government will disclose every detail of a current, ongoing investigation that involves national security.

And I wonder how it is that these otherwise very intelligent people seem to think that every nutcase blog out there knows THE TRUTH. They read those sites, they have no way of verifying if the report is accurate, truthful, and complete, they are just SO SURE that everybody involved is telling the truth.

The truth about this won't be known for years, and even then, the whole truth may never be uncovered.

The real truth about this is classified information, it's not ever released to the public, and won't be for years, if ever. For all they know, their so-called "facts" they they rely on are out-and-out deliberate, planned lies.

What this is really about is the elections coming up. These nutcase blogs aren't about truth, they are about getting their candidate elected. People that normally have good judgment and that are reasonable people are just so SURE that these sites are telling them the truth. Because they want to believe it.

But what makes me laugh is statements like this-"Anyone who doesn't see why Obama has tried to cover up or defuse the incompetence of Benghazi for purely political reasons is too naive to understand politics". Hey, Obama is a lame-duck President. He can't be reelected. He doesn't care what's said, he couldn't care less. He already knows that once he leaves office, he's set for life.

Who is the one that is naive?

General comment

Yellow journalism, right-wing conservative journalism, leftist journalism, liberal / progressives Democrats, ultra-conservative Republicans: "WHERE does the name-calling END ?!" "Who threw the first stone, which came first, which party MUST be right ( correct ), THAT ( BLANK, BLANK, BLANK ) party is too, too ( fill in the blank ), etc.,etc....

Both parties want to say that the national debt WILL become our childrens' and grandchildrens' problem. One party belives in nature and global warming and the other kind-of does not.

THE, THE question for ALL OF US to think about is this: "Where will ANY Republican or Democrat be if the whole world "GOES-TO-HELL" ????

1: "Mission accomplished" -

1: "Mission accomplished" - it was a reasonable statement at the time. Baghdad had fallen.

2: "Weapons of Mass Distruction" - they were there but had been moved to Syria....which is using them now against it's own people just as they had been used in Iraq.

3: "Oh just let Wall Street police themselves" - It wasn't Wall Street that started this. It was Democrat policies at Fanny Mae and Freddy Mac and their policy of "give everyone a $300,00 mortgage whether they are qualified or not or it's racial discrimination and we will persecute you". Wall Street simply tried to get creative and survive the crash they knew the Democrats had set in motion with their idiotic "underserved neighborhood" mortgage policies. Bush tried to warn the Democrat Congress that the real estate market was about to crash, but it fell on deaf ears and was denied by the Democrats in charge.....just like the warnings about Obamacare are being received now. Well, a few of the Democrats have at least admitted that Obamacare is a train wreck.....but not enough to fix the problem.

4: "Let General Motors and Chrysler go bankrupt" - Exactly what should have happened. Both should have gone through bankruptcy and dealt with their debt, union contracts, and unfunded pension and healthcare liabilities. As things turned out, they are still running on taxpayer money and nothing has been resolved that will allow them to survive the next little economic blip.

And ALL of these things were fully covered by the media in an unfavorable way toward Bush.....unlike the swooning and drooling way they cover Obama and the Democrat screw-ups.

And ""Where will ANY Republican or Democrat be if the whole world "GOES-TO-HELL" ????"

I hate to tell you this, but we are already there.....the furnace just ain't kicked on yet but the pilot light is lit and everything else is in place. Just a matter of that one little thermostat "click".

Freddie & Fannie heh

Well here is the next biggie .....another crash of sorts

Shaun Donovan, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, in a July 16 speech to the NAACP about a new regulation and database aimed at adding “protected classes” into predominantly white neighborhoods.

The federal government is getting serious about pushing racial and ethnic diversity into America’s neighborhoods--and is using big data and big money to achieve its aims.

A new interactive database will help regulators, local housing officials and individuals take action on a newly proposed regulation that would require agencies to “affirmatively further” the inclusion of minority residents in white neighborhoods.

Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan announced the database and regulation at last week’s NAACP convention, saying the Obama administration was battling “a quieter form of discrimination” that was “just as harmful” as long-outlawed segregationist practices, like racially restrictive property covenants.

The problem now, Donovan said, is that prospective minority buyers are not being encouraged to move into predominantly white neighborhoods with top-notch schools, government services and amenities like grocery stories, etc.
