I just finished reading your editorial titled “Phony Indignation” (Aug. 1), and it has left me speechless. However, as you read on you will realize that’s not quite true, anymore than the information you used in this “attack” on President Obama is true.

In our age of 24/7 news and commentary, no politician can survive a true scandal. Anyone entrusted by the electorate who behaves badly and/or dishonorably is hounded relentlessly until they either get out or are voted out in disgrace. There are far too many politicians who have either been, or are being driven out of office, for you to go “looking” for another such as our president.

You have listed several events that have taken place during President Obama’s tenure in the Oval Office, some very tragic, that had they been real scandals would have been cause for him to exit his position and our lives. And yet, you make Obama out to be the smartest president in history to boldly escape punishment for his supposedly scandalous wrong doing.

I could go on to show how you have erroneously portrayed the facts in each of these events to make your even-more-erroneous point, but that would take more space than you allow for letters to the editor.

That said, any of your intelligent readers can Google these events and read the true facts for themselves.

This editorial borders on “yellow journalism” (Google it) at best, and certainly is irresponsible for any respectable newspaper. If you don’t like the president, state your opinion using the truth – not as you would like it to be, but as it really is.

After reading this poorly written defense of Obama, my only advice to the writer is that he should take his own advice.

Indignation is a poor substitute for information.

The Rev. Nead appears to have just discovered Google. I'd suggest he try one of the less tainted search engines. There are some good ones.

BTW - Any educated,or informed individual knows what Yellow Journalism is.....

We suffer it's consequences every time a New York Times, MSNBC, CBS or CNN article is referenced. Just to mention a few.

Scott Nead, you darn well know better than this.

You were being edumacated at Sewanee the exact same time I was there, and one would assume you also learned how to think critically. That applies especially to correctly evaluating the data/information put out for public consumption as opposed to reports of what actually happened from a wide variety of sources. Didn't you learn anything from Watergate and the role of the free press?

If you believe those Obummer scandals are not real scandals or else they would have been treated as scandals, then it's fortunate that you are well into retirement. Your kids and grandkids, on the other hand, will live with the consequences of the Fourth Estate's having turned into government toadies and lapdogs.

Isn't it great that we have two great potential candidates for president who actually have the courage to disagree...and in plain sight, too. Unlike the Dems who are already "fixing" everything nice and cozy for Hillary.

Yes, but I'm absolutely hoping that Dr. Carson runs for President in the next election. He's never been involved in politics and THAT is a major plus for me; and the fact that he is an wonderful human being, doesn't hurt anything either. The man had the guts to make that speech, then he's got the guts to stand up to people and THAT, I absolutely LOVE!!

I only hope that Dr.Carson doesn't have too many skeleton's in his closet, because they are going to come after him HARD!! I'm sure they will be going back to interview people he was in kindergarten with, to find out if he bullied anyone!! This man is despised by the left!!

"That America's founding was bad, America's entire history is bad, America IS bad!!"

Hokeedokee.....

"This Country is racist," The world knows this is not true; encouraged by conservatives the different races get along well together.

"This Country is oppressive," The world knows this is not true; encouraged by conservatives our nation's educational systems at all levels, our health systems, our hiring systems welcome all people at all social economic levels, legal or illegal.

"This Country only cares about the Rich," The world knows this is not true; The 'rich' are constantly giving selflessly of their great fortunes to the less fortunate, and because of that, there is no one in this country in "need."

"This Country doesn't care about civil rights," The world knows this isn't true. Even American citizens who are accused of being terrorist are given an open and speedy trial, especially if they also happen to be Muslim.

"America being strong is bad for the world," The world knows this isn't true; it equally invades nations like China, India, Russia and "Israel" to assure "freedom" for all citizens.

America invade's other Countries to take over and for financial reasons; and the list could go on with the liberal ideology!!

The whole world knows this isn't true; it invaded Iraq and Afghanistan, not because of their natural resources (like oil and natural gas, but not limited to those) to spread 'democracy' - even though - at the point of a gun.

"But most importantly, You DO NOT criticize this President and his administration!!!"

Now, that, can only be declared by someone who doesn't read, or listen to, liberal thinking.

Actually, I think Chris Christie and Rand Paul are pretty civil with each other compared to what Bill and Hillary said about Obama and his supporters during their campaign and vice versa. Remember the charges of racism on both sides?

Tell us, enlightened one; in what way(s) have conservatives 'advanced' this country?

Civil rights?

Women's rights? Equal pay for equal work? Equal advancement opportunity?

Public education?

Medical care for all citizens regardless of ability to pay?

Equal right to borrow money at the bank?

Equal housing opportunity regardless of race?

Opposed unnecessary wars?

Who are the conservatives who have led these advancing movements?

Equal rights to borrow money at the bank? Heck no! Someone who has the ability to pay the money back should have more rights to borrow more money. That is what caused the housing collapse.....but you don't care as long as people get free stuff.

Dear me. My comments to you
Unpublished

Dear me. My comments to you have once again been reported as being unfair.

Although should I be surprised?

That said, I'll reiterate this and then say no more.

------------------------------------------------------------------

As to this; "Just what have liberals done for civil rights, oh enlightened
one?",

First (in this case, you) need to learn the difference between the depiction of liberal and conservative.

Conservative; "disposed to preserve existing conditions, institutions, etc. and to limit change."

Liberal; "pertaining to, based on, or advocating liberalism, especially the freedom of the individual and governmental guarantees of individual rights and liberties."

Every issue named here has been opposed by those who wish to maintain the status quo (that is to say, conservative).

Women's rights? Equal pay for equal work? Equal advancement opportunity?

Public education?

Medical care for all citizens regardless of ability to pay?

Equal right to borrow money at the bank?

Equal housing opportunity regardless of race?

Opposed unnecessary wars?
--------------------------------------------------
If it weren't for liberals, you'd still be wearing a dress in public, if not
in the house, on freezing windy winter days and/or wearing a raincoat to cover your shorts on hot summer days.

You would be working for less pay doing the same work as males. ("Women don't need as much money as males.").

avid, it is my understanding that ACES publishes all letters that are submitted properly (verifiable name, address, phone number...) and do not contain slander, libel, profanity... Why, yours truly submitted one a few years back and inside of 24 hours an email from ACES was received stating that the submission will not run because it appeared to be venting about a back-and-forth with some yahoo who shall remain nameless, but trust me, he's a yahoo.

"If it weren't for liberals, you'd still be wearing a dress in public, if not

We don't exaggerate much do we?

Since it was Eisenhower who attempted to pass the FIRST Civil Rights bill (1957) and Johnson voted against it!! I suppose Johnson, was doing the same thing you claim Republicans are doing today, obstructing for political purpose. Since Johnson voted AGAINST it, but then pushed for it once HE was President, kinda politically convenient, isn't it?

And YES; conservatives have done MORE for all those you mentioned!! Because we encourage people to be the best THEY can be, not the best the government can make them!! The left wing being the Civil Rights champions, is the biggest lie in politics, well one of the biggest lies!!

Public education; Bush passed No child left behind and poured more money into education that all previous President's.

"Medical care for all citizens regardless of ability to pay?"

Bush passed one of the largest Medicare expansions in history on December 8th, 2003.

http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/12/08/elec04.medicare/

"Equal right to borrow money at the bank?"

Yeah, Thanks Dodd and Frank, for the housing industry collapse. I don't think I would be touting destroying the housing industry and sending this Country into collapse, as an awesome thing to brag about, but that's just me. You down loan money to people who have NO MEANS of paying it back, I think we learned this. But, I'm glad to see you're giving the liberal democrats credit for the recession!! At least you're accepting some responsibility, that's a step forward. The first step in the recovery process is to admit you have a problem. You've now taken the first step, with many more to go.

"Equal housing opportunity regardless of race?"

Which republican's fought against this and which democrats supported it? Or is this just another generalization to say WE DID THIS and you didn't. I'm betting you can't prove anything on this.

"Opposed unnecessary wars?"

You mean, opposed ALL WARS, and basically wanted communism to run wild!! Why? Because they couldn't care less about other people in the world, they just want to oppose America and everything she does. Doesn't matter how many millions are slaughtered in other Countries, we shouldn't get involved, spreading FREEDOM and Democracy!!

This guy is a real "Reverend" about like MANY of the "Real Reverend's" out here.

Meaning, there aren't too many in existence. In MY OPINION, there aren't too many teacher's of God's Word anywhere today. But, God's Word warned us of this as well. Wolves in Sheep's clothing.

Resprctful to other posters

I totally respect the comment made by Fiat. However, I do do not respect the comments made by The Reverend in his letter. Reared in the Episcopal Church, as was my husband, (we met on a church trip over 50 years ago), I can truthfully say, the reverends have left us. I won't bore anyone with the private details, but the Church left us. We yearn for the church we grew up in.
