Change parkway design

The only effective and sensible solution to improve Hitchcock Parkway in Aiken is to change the design criteria to “corridor improvement” from “capacity improvement.” This would allow a three-lane design that would provide two uphill lanes in all the uphill sections, along with some turning lane flexibility.

The only major widening should be at both ends of the parkway to transition to Pine Log Road and U.S. Highway 1. Certainly this approach would cost a lot less than the $41 million estimated for the current design, and would be less disruptive to the surrounding areas.
