Is this point of no return?

  • Follow Letters

Our national credit card has been overdrawn to a point of no return and no redemption in the future.

Balance the budget? How? More than one-third of our population (128 million) receive federal benefit assistance. Forty-eight million alone are on food stamps (Department of Agriculture). During the past 40 years, disability rolls have increased 80 percent while the population has grown only 50 percent, according to the Heritage Foundation. Immigrants of the past two centuries have grown this country into an unbelievable high standard of living. This new wealth also has brought a declining birth rate among affluent families with higher education. Only immigrants are upholding our population now. When my family came under the Displaced Persons Act in 1951, we had to guarantee to not seek any public benefit of any kind for five years and then apply for citizenship in English only. We were proud to become American citizens.

Remember when the Roman armies were involved in foreign wars while the home population decayed down the road to selfishness and to the end of the Roman Empire more than 1,700 years ago? Learn from history – or is this happening to us?

Dark Ages Next

Remember allies of the Visigoths in Rome opened the gates for them to sack the city. We have created a society of nonworking, free lunchers...and breakfasters who will open the gates by tearing up the Constitution at any hint their recumbent, grape eating lifestyle as depicted in the paintings of Rome, is coming to an end. The Dark Ages come next if you recall.

As pointed out there are some similarities.

According to most historians The Roman Empire fell because:

The people became wealthy and affluent which led to them be soft and content.

Civic virture and adherence to the Roman Constitution were the foundation of the society. The people and politicians went away from these foundations.

Gridlock and political problems caused by the Senate forgetting about the people and getting away from the Constitution resulted in loss of confidence by the people.

People coming into the Empire did not assimilate and become Romans resulting in a loss of the Roman culture.

What was the result? The people wanted someone to take charge and keep individual freedom and sol ve problems. They wanted a strong leader. This led to Ceasar and him becoming dictator for life. Of course, he was later killed off.

What are the similarities with us today?

America has become complacent and soft.

Our people and the government have strayed from the founding foundations of the Constitution and traditional values.

Politicians think of people as groups they can cow tow to rather than individual freedom.

We have gridlock because we have two parties who have diametric views of what the country should look like. The Republicans believe more in individual freedom and the democrats, to included the executive branch, believe in the concept that the people are stupid and need the "elites" to take care of them.

We are allowing Hispanic immigrates from the Third World who do not improve from one generation to the next as has happened with other groups. Third generation Hispanics do worse than second generation in:
Number living in poverty.
Percentage of men out of work.
Number of unmarried women 25-55.
Number of unmarried women head of households.
Number of unmarried women on welfare.

No county can survive when it allows moochers to become its largest group of immigrants who also lead in birth rates. It's a formula for destruction.

So what's next?

Are American citizens going to take this lying down, or are they going to rise up like the people in countries like Egypt and Syria??

wresting our education system from the government

is the first step in saving our country
because our children are really indoctrinated into the emotion based governing system
and rationality does not come from emotion
the emotion based governing system gave us busing, which did great harm to most of our cities
it gave us "the projects," which are consumed by crime
it made banks loan money to people who haven't been educated well enough to earn enough money to buy a nice home, giving us the housing crisis
and many others
rich people have school choice... why don't liberals trust the same to the poor?

I think you are correct,,......the school system has been a huge disappointment to many....just as you say the rich have their schools....we do need to take the schools away from government handling & start fresh....& if you are not qualified to teach...you lose the job...don't care what group--color you fall in.

you'll find an affluent thug who will beat your brains out with a metal bat on a place such as your Riverwalk. For the most part, these thugs are from families where boys of poverty try to show "manhood" by impregnating as many young girls as possible. Who does this leave? Children growing up on da hood with no father, sometimes no mother, being raised by a welfare grandmother who can't control them. They aren't interested in improving themselves educationally, even though it's free, because obama and the "do-good" lefties want to keep them on the "plantation" with gubmint cash ( mine and yours) to keep voting for da "free" money.

The changes needed must come

The changes needed must come from the hearts and minds of ALL Americans. It will not come from Washington DC because those in power are only concerned with keeping their power and if the majority of Americans want free stuff the elected officials will give them free stuff. Once there was "shame" involved when a able bodied person received welfare. He knew in his heart this was not right and he should be trying to help himself. This is no longer true.....we have seen the " death of shame" in all areas of life.

.
A lot of what the writer said early on made sense... however, that last bit was the most obvious, ill fitting, contrived and forced analogy I've seen recently.

The Romans were out conquering foreign lands, rounding up huge numbers of slaves to serve the indolent wealthy back home.

Our military is doing it's best, although hampered by poor civilian leadership to stabilize the world and secure a lasting peace for all.

The "indolent wealthy" in this country are disproportionately found in Washington, DC. The vast majority of the working class pay for their extravagances.

Not much decaying "down the road to selfishness" for American taxpayers. Too busy trying to keep food on the table.

"The Dark Ages come next if you recall."

The "Dark Ages" is an interesting subject. You seem to be suggesting the "Dark Ages" were a result of the fall of Rome. Is that your premise? I'd suggest the "Dark Ages" occurred well after Rome fell and for other reasons, most of which have to do with another issue which began a few hundred years after Rome fell, but remain a problem for mankind still today.

I would argue that the "Dark Ages" as well as the vast majority of (but not all) the problems that still threaten society have a lot more to do with the rise of Islam than they do the fall of Rome.

Once again, listen to the

Once again, listen to the CREATOR'S WORD. You would think He might no a thing or two about human nature and the way's of mankind!!

II Thessalonians 3:10 "For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat."

We need to increase the burden of proof of people receiving disability benefits. Trust me, I see people constantly who are "disabled"; yet still working under the table for extra cash!! I know a man right now who is a "handyman" under the table, making probably 700 a week, while his family gets foodstamps and he is on disability!! I see this constantly in my line of work.

But it will NEVER stop as long as LP's are in control of the education system (as stated above) and running the government. Mankind now and throughout history has refused to listen to HE WHO CREATED LIFE; and this is where we go wrong! Then we sit and wonder "Why is this happening?"

I also agree with the comments above about PC!! It's completely removed the spines of the STRONG MEN AND WOMEN!! People are afraid to be branded, as Paula Deen experienced recently! I believe in times of old, we would already be talking about WAR, with what the government is doing to us, but not today!! People have changed and ALL CHANGE is not good! We still need people of STRENGTH, honor, integrity, wisdom, resolve and principal!!
