Support is music to my ears

Now that the Memorial Day holiday has heralded the start of summer, it is time to remember all the wonderful people and businesses in Augusta who helped make the winter season enjoyable by their underwriting of the wonderful music programs available to everyone.

I would like them to know how much I appreciate their generosity year after year.

My thanks go to Tuesday’s Music Live supporters and Keith Shafer, the director. The offerings have been first class, with artists from all over the world who entertained us with many different genres. The option to purchase a wonderful lunch in the beautiful River Room of St. Paul’s Church makes for a very nice noontime outing.

I would also like to recognize Jamie Garvey for leading the “Concerts With a Cause.” The programs have been fantastic, and these concerts have starred artists from other places.

To complete the season, we must also recognize the Symphony Orchestra Augusta, directed by Maestro Shizuo Z Kuwahara. The ninth annual “Pops! Under the Stars,” held at the Lady Antebellum Pavilion, presented a rousing program followed by fireworks. It was perfect for a family outing, offering music not usually listened to on Iphones!

These offerings, all free to the public, add so much to the music culture of this community. I have lived in or near several large cities, and don’t know of any that offer programs of this caliber free to the public.

I look forward to the 2013-2014 season of music!
