Charter class of seniors

Congratulations to the Class of 2013!

“Lucky 13” is our first graduating class of seniors from Georgia Connections Academy, our state’s free public virtual charter school.

It’s hard to believe we crossed this milestone. In just three short years, we’ve gone from getting our state charter to becoming a virtual school for grades K-8 and to adding high school grades this year. And now, here we are! At graduation day!

Georgia Connections Academy, like every charter school in our state, is dedicated to providing a quality public education that gives parents, students and teachers real choices that add up to academic achievement. At our school, however, we do it all online!

So, as the Class of 2013 will be walking across the stage this month, in some cases these students will be meeting each other in person for the first time.

Our students come from around our state – from Dalton to Savannah. We are proud, as a school community, to recognize our seniors’ academic achievements as they receive their diploma in front of family, friends, and teachers.

These young men and women attended our public school from home, working with teachers online and on the phone while a trusted adult monitored progress in the home.

They literally forged new ground, and reinvented education – developing their own path to success! These seniors are empowered to play an active role in their life-long education – to be responsible and ready for the college or career that lies ahead.

I’m so proud of them and thrilled as they meet in “the real time world” for a tradition always worth continuing for every class, traditional or virtual. Hail Graduates of 2013!
