I again was privileged to accompany a group of 47 veterans, companions and support team members to visit our nation’s war memorials in Washington, D.C. Sponsored by a most warmhearted, compassionate and dedicated Vietnam war veteran, Doug Hastings, the Vets to Washington Project did it again! This fantastic group of veteran-honoring individuals brought 20-plus veterans from World War II, Korea, Vietnam and Desert Storm to our nation’s capital to tour the most sacred of our war memorials.
The Vets to Washington Project is wholly supported by individual donations and several very generous sponsors. Noteworthy donors are Mr. and Mrs. George Duehring and Mr. Harold May. These generous donors plus other individual donors allow this project to bring veterans to Washington to visit the various war memorials.
We cried, we laughed, we hugged, we remembered the painful and we met strangers who thanked our veterans for their selfless service to America.
Our veterans, men and women alike, have placed their lives in harm’s way for you and me! How can we not appreciate their service and bravery?
If not for the Vets to Washington Project, some of our veterans would never get the chance to visit the memorials dedicated to their service. You and I can continue to support the generous outreach to our local veterans by sending a donation to the Vets to Washington Project, 3709 Fairington Drive, Hephzibah, GA 30815. The Vets to Washington Project is not funded by any government entity – it’s up to you and me to continue their conscientious work.
As Memorial Day approaches, please give a big thank-you to our past veterans, and our present and future servicemen and women. God bless America always.
