I just don't believe Obama

  • Follow Letters

On May 5, President Obama addressed Ohio State University’s graduating class. He asserted, “(Y)ou’ve grown up hearing voices that incessantly warn of government as nothing more than some separate, sinister entity that’s at the root of all our problems.” Obama continued, “They warn that tyranny is always lurking just around the corner. You should reject these voices. Because what they suggest is that our brave and creative and unique experiment in self-rule is somehow just a sham with which we can’t be trusted.”

Over the past 10 days, the American public has learned that, under the Obama administration, federal agents apparently have blatantly desecrated the rights of citizens under the guise of governmental authority.

On Friday, we learned that the Internal Revenue Service targeted groups for intense and unwarranted scrutiny based solely upon political views. It just so happens that the targeted groups are conservative entities that seek to educate the public and to reform the taxation practices of the federal government. On Monday we learned of the Department of Justice seized the phone records of numerous Associated Press reporters and editors. The actions of the Department of Justice represent an egregious and unprecedented attack on journalists’ freedom and their responsibility to inform the public of the activities of the government.

We have trusted our government with the authority to deny each of us of life, liberty and property. However, the Constitution clearly states that we are protected from such denials by due process and equal protection under the law.

The revelations of the past few days illustrate that our government agencies are capable of unscrupulous and tyrannical activity. Obama expects the American public to trust him and faithfully believe that our government acts in the best interests of its citizens. I don’t believe him. Actions speak louder than words.

Obama...

... a disgrace and an embarassment! I often wondered why he seemed so 'nadless on the world stage. This perhaps provides a partial explanation:

faithson, I see you fail to

faithson,

I see you fail to justify the non-constitutional leanings of our current president by bringing up past discrepancies of others.

Imagine the standstill we'd come to if we only debated the justification of current leaders within the boundaries of what previous leaders were allowed to get away with. Why, there's just no telling what some could get away with. You should be ashamed.

THE REASON THE CONSTITUTION

THE REASON THE CONSTITUTION WAS WRITTEN LIKE IT WAS WAS TO LIMIT THE POWER OF GOVERNMENT SO IF CORRUPTION OCCURED (AS THE FOUNDERS WERE SURE IT WOULD BECAUSE OF HUMAN NATURE) IT WOULD MINIMIZE THE DAMAGE THAT OCCURED. Faithson, I have a news flash for you, everybody is corrupt, there are very few George Washingtons running around. So I know, after sitting here discussing all the corruption on both sides of the isle lets ripe up the constitution and give people WE KNOW ARE CORRUPT more power to inflict more damage on us. Then we justify it by saying well gee, Grant was corrupt, Tamanny hall was corrupt, Nixon was corrupt, Bush was corrupt why do you expect more from our guy? This seems to be the logic of the liberal progressive arguement, please explain it to me! Why do we expect more from Obama? Well for one thing because he PROMISED more.

"Of course the 'prove it' mentality will always be the fly in the ointment."

Yeah....we wouldn't want to take away the ability of people to just tell lies and make things up instead of backing up what they say.

...perfect!

We expect more, because if we accept the status quo we've lost the fight! I feel sorry for those, and their offspring, like so many sheep accepting of their herdmasters and anything they wish to do

I guess you need the Pres-e-dent directly involved along with the machinations of the Vice President, entire White House/Executive Staff, the State Department, and the CIA to make even a small scandal a sacrosanct Executive Decision, like is palatable to the right wing in the case of Iraq and the non-WMDs... Even though nobody is dead, there are no trillions being wasted, and the system corrected itself using the Press which all the conservative paranoids just know is against them. Or, no Marines are dead in Beirut as with Saint Ronald's brilliant decision to intervene in Lebanon, or his decision to trade with terrorists nations to support 'our terrorists' in Central America.

When will all the people who are still fighting to avenge Nixon pass from the body politic and let us get back to some government. Probably not until the rabid dog that is Newt Gingrich is finally gone.

The Democrats were able eventually to get beyond the Lillian Hellman wing of their party; too bad the GOP is, by definition, always to be mired in their own muck, as conservatives, making the same old mistakes by insisting on the same old failed patent cures.
