I just don't believe Obama

  • Follow Letters

On May 5, President Obama addressed Ohio State University’s graduating class. He asserted, “(Y)ou’ve grown up hearing voices that incessantly warn of government as nothing more than some separate, sinister entity that’s at the root of all our problems.” Obama continued, “They warn that tyranny is always lurking just around the corner. You should reject these voices. Because what they suggest is that our brave and creative and unique experiment in self-rule is somehow just a sham with which we can’t be trusted.”

Over the past 10 days, the American public has learned that, under the Obama administration, federal agents apparently have blatantly desecrated the rights of citizens under the guise of governmental authority.

On Friday, we learned that the Internal Revenue Service targeted groups for intense and unwarranted scrutiny based solely upon political views. It just so happens that the targeted groups are conservative entities that seek to educate the public and to reform the taxation practices of the federal government. On Monday we learned of the Department of Justice seized the phone records of numerous Associated Press reporters and editors. The actions of the Department of Justice represent an egregious and unprecedented attack on journalists’ freedom and their responsibility to inform the public of the activities of the government.

We have trusted our government with the authority to deny each of us of life, liberty and property. However, the Constitution clearly states that we are protected from such denials by due process and equal protection under the law.

The revelations of the past few days illustrate that our government agencies are capable of unscrupulous and tyrannical activity. Obama expects the American public to trust him and faithfully believe that our government acts in the best interests of its citizens. I don’t believe him. Actions speak louder than words.

The sad part is we now have

The sad part is we now have to trust the IRS with our health care decisions. The IRS is the enforcment branch of Obama care. I can't wait to get a note "Sorry your wife can't have Breat cancer surgery, request denied until you fill out this twelve paper form telling us who you associated with in grade school"! Yep lets trust government.

Those in charge won't take responsibility, Obama fired the guy who wasn't even there when the IRS was slamming conservatives..LOL

The federal government is so

The federal government is so awesome!! I think we should just turn everything over to them. All industries should be left to their brilliant discretion. Only then will this Country get back on track. They would make it fair across the board. Then EVERYONE could afford that Cadillac or BMW, not just the evil rich. Just like everyone is going to have "Quality" healthcare. If government is in charge, I could probably go to a Braves game, paying $5.00 at the gate and 0.85 for hotdogs instead of 5 bucks. Beer at the ballgame would be $1.25 instead of $8.00.

Oh, the heavenly bliss we would all feel; if only the federal government could have completely control. I think we need to put it on the ballot box next time and vote to give these brilliant people, FULL control. You all have a great day; and I can't wait to fill out my 9,000 page request form to get my brand new BMW for $2,500.00.

The IRS is doing their job.
Unpublished

The IRS is doing their job. Just like they should check that all of the deductions for "entertaining a client" isn't really just date night with your wife, when you file as an organization whose primary activity can't be politics, it should raise quite a few red flags when all the organization does is politics (and send out daily emails begging for money that talk all about politics and how much they need all of this money so they can influence politics). Not once have I gotten an email that mentioned anything but politics, or asked for donations for a charity, or any cause other than themselves and how they'll influence elections with it. Trust me, they send the emails faithfully, some every day, and I get them from several groups. They are free to do what they want but not abuse the tax system to claim tax free status. Mainly they try to file under the improper classification because it allows them to keep their donors secret. That way you can't tell who the pay for play goes to and that's the way they like it.

Bod...show us specifically what the groups that were targeted do. You act like you know, but I highly suspect that you have no idea, but assume it MUST be political in nature only. Let's see you prove it. Were any of the groups you got the email from on the targeted list?

Excellent letter

obama's speech at The Ohio State University shows his ignorance of our Founding. If one reads the writings of the Founders one would learn that all of them wrote to be fearful and distrustful of government. They understood human nature that the natural tendency of those in power is to exercise tyranny. There are always those who think they are elite, know better than you what's good for you, and are willing to grab power to control you and your activities.

As to Bod's love of the IRS and its procedures and policies--- applying the "rules" equitable is one thing but showing favoritism is another. A few examples are in order.

It would take up to three years for a Tea Party organization to get an answer on its tax exemption and then only after answering many questions which had nothing to do with taxes; e.g., giving a list of donors, political leaning, desires for political office, material used in training sessions, lists of who had been trained, who would be trained in the future and when, lesson plans of previous training sessions and future ones, annual income of donors, and this is just a short list. This delay kept people from being able to give tax exempt contributions to an organization thereby reducing funding for the organizations activities during the election.

Approving obama's half-brother's request for tax exemption for his organization in less than a month and then giving him retroactive status for the past two years he had been illegally accepting donations as tax exempted.

Giving confidential information to liberal groups who then published the confidential information so as to harm the individual who did not support obama.

Finally, our Constitution was written to restrict the government contrary to obama's desires as stated in numerous interviews when he said the Constitution was adequate for Colonial Times but the government was smarter today and should not be restricted. Bottomline is obama is in love with leftist government and envies dictators.

OMG!! Only in a liberal mind.........

Could anyone believe the IRS was just "doing their job"; when specifically targeting groups for political purpose.

Let me ask you this; would you feel the same if they were targetting mediamatters, Open society institute, Tides foundation, Center for genetics and society, The condom project and the list could go on? These groups claim the EXACT same exemptions you've mentioned.

No, I'm quite sure you would completely ignore such violations, right? The fact we have to debate whether it's appropriate for a government organization to TARGET a specific group for political purpose is staggering. EVERYONE should be on board to say this is absurd. Even Bob Beckel said it was criminal and completely against the constitution. So you absolutely KNOW someone is FAR LEFT when they are left of Bob Beckel. There are certain issues we should ALL stand against, and this is one of them. Pathetic people even have to be told this.

I agree with Bod and we

I agree with Bod and we should have a recall of the last presidential election. The IRS prevented the tea party which could have influenced the election but allowed MoveOn.org to have tax exempt status which definitely influenced the election. MoveOn's tax exempt status should be revoked and those who gave it to them imprisoned.

What a minute Deestafford!!

Obama SAID this is completely unacceptable and he will hold accountable those responsible for it. That's why he didn't fire Steve Miller, only ASKED him to resign; which he did. Now THAT is accountability sir or madam. Just like he SAID he would find the truth about Benghazi and hold those responsible, accountable!! I look forward to seeing this unfold and someone held accountable; 8 months later, we're still waiting.

Just like Obama SAID he supports traditional marriage. Just like Obama SAID his administration would be the most transparent in history.

It appears this man likes to SAY a lot of things, and do very little. BUT, leave it to the leftist activists to listen to every WORD and blindly believe them. No action required with these people, it's enough for their messiah to simple SAY it.

A quote from Harry Potter

"There is no such thing as good and evil, only power..." A line from a movie has such chilling reality in this current administration!

Why would obama fire a subordinate for following orders? Could it be to save his own neck? Also chilling!

So we have MoveOn.org with

So we have MoveOn.org with 501c4 tax exempt status, then we have all the "tea party" , "patriot" etc. dot orgs asking for the same thing and they were denied or toyed with. Now I'm waiting for the progressive "logic" to explain why both don't deserve the same status- be it tax exempt or denied.

dah... what, this is the first time !!! say what you haters must, but the 'outting' of this malfeasance IS what democracy is all about. Stuff happens, has and probably always will. Time to let the powers that be clean up their mess, make the necessary changes and move on with the business of governing. Of course this treasure trove of misdeeds will embolden the haters to hate even more, but just like ole Limbaugh, even hate gets old and serves no useful purpose in promoting the 'good' for the nation, it only serves those that hate.

In knew it was just a matter of time before a liberal came on here and tried to rationalize this behavior by saying that "other people did it before" or "all politicians do it." Wrong is wrong no matter how long it's been going on.....but it's even worse coming from a President who promised to be "the most transparent ever."

so far this whole affair has been distilled down to 2 employees who went off the ranch. I can well imagine with all the animosity and dark energy that these conservative groups give off to some on the left, someone felt it was their job to give them a hard time. A lack in ethics ensued and some rights were infringed upon. It is best we look to the motivator, Citizens United, to begin an effect response that will strengthen our Democracy. Some will spend an inordinate amount of energy over this spilled milk, making political hay, but as wisdom should tells us, fix it and move on.

Fixing it means removing all

Fixing it means removing all who were in any way involved and their superiors because they should have known what was going on. There has to be accountability to remove stupidity or illegal activity. Nixon should have never been impeached by your standard of "spilled milk". Get a dictionary and read up on that "wisdom". The problem with this issue is that this started in 2010 and for the last two years high officials have known about it and treated it like "spilled milk" so your suggestion offered no solution, no fix, no move on. Because that isn't a solution nor a fix. Good golly.

Once a liar, always a liar -

This is one of those "I told you so" moments that all of us that never have believe in Obama can now claim. I hope everyone who voted for him is regretting their decision and is now seeing the light. This man ran and was elected only to push his agenda, not to preside over this country, or fix our problems or lead us in the right direction to a better future. Obama has created a tone in Washington that is as divisive, obtrusive, and down right dangerous. The negative tone trickles down from the top, hence the IRS scandal is a direct result of this negative tone. If Romney were in the White House this would have never happened and this tone would not exist. I have never seen a greater puppet in the White House than Obama. Sickening.

I take the point of an ethical lapse, not criminality, different. As to the time involved, it is the same old CYA any buracracy has. Not justifing, just what it is. Yes heads should roll and a complete investigation should be made to bring to light just what happened and assurances should be made that in the future there will be better implementation of the 'rules'. As to a solution, over turning Citizens United would be a good start.

I don't make relativistic

I don't make relativistic comparisons. I think the Iraq and Afghanistan wars were a waste to time too. Obama is really angry over this IRS fiasco and yet also admits for three years he was "ignorant" of this!!!! The man is definitely too incompetent for office-he should be removed immediately. Why didn't he know, he didn't know about Benghazi, he didn't know about the AP, what this man doesn't know would fill the universe. How sad that our president is out of the loop on about everything.

Obama tells graduates at Ohio State University to ignore antigovernment movements. He said " Reject Voices That Warn About Government Tyranny".
We have seen the face of Government tyranny and it is "he" because this is how tyrants talk. If you don't have big problem with each of the many scandals of late, liberal or conservative, you are un-america.

regretting their decision

u gotta be kiddn' me... the last election was a vote AGIANST the republican platform, just as much as it was a vote for our President. How some can think that what the republicans put up in that last election had any chance of winning only goes to show how far their heads are in the sand. The republican party has become some sort of a religion, with all the doctrine and creeds of a cult, thanks to none other than the Newt and GOPAC from the early 90's. You guys made your bed, now you must sleep in it... all by your lonesome, in a dark cornor, while the rest of the thinking and living move forward, allowing ALL a seat at the table.

one of two realities... he knew and would not be the first to act otherwise OR... the presidential bubble has become so 'air tight' these days that he didn't. by law (post watergate) the executive can only have documented discussions with the IRS commissioner, no side talk, no underlings. If he did know, it will by law be documented. that's about the best we are going to get. We will probably only come to know when that book comes out in about 2020. I personally will give him the benifit of the doubt, others may not. Steward did a good skit on tues nite about how 'unknowing' Barak has been about all this.

Obama created the culture

Obama created the culture that not only allowed these scandals but encourages them. He brought this "Chicago" style of corrupt politics to Washington. When he first ran for his senate seat in Illinois, he won by destroying his opponent. Somehow he managed to get "confidential" information on his opponents personal life causing him to withdraw from the race. Obama has a "win at all cost" tactic and uses every tool at his disposal. Unfortunately, he now has the entire Federal government as his tool of destruction.
