Two athletes, two agendas

  • Follow Letters

It is indeed a weird world, at least in this country.

A career basketball player finally reveals that he is gay, and gets a phone call from the president. People embrace the drama.

Tim Tebow, a career football player who has never denied who he is as a Christian, gets vilified and dismissed as a failure. Teams reportedly flee from the drama.

It isn’t about success or failure, but about agendas.

anyone can say they're gay...

anyone can say they're a basketball player
but the proof is in the playing, the actual participation in the activity
and the guy has proof he played, although not well, basketball

Collins and Tebow are both

Collins and Tebow are both serviceable bench players who can come in and spell the starters fairly well for a brief period. One knows it and the other believes the hype. Many fans believe the hype as well. That's the problem. He's not a failure, he's just not the superstar caliber player that he or his fans thought that he would be. There's no shame in being the backup quarterback. In the NFL, that's far from failure. That's roughly 96 people in the entire nation. Not a failure at all. He and his fans just need to accept it.

Great LTE

I believe the biggest disapointment is in how the liberals; ( including President Obama ); touted the gay basketball player and kind of shunned Tebow. If the libs. are going to tout gays, thin they should give the same to people of other walks of life !!

Mr. Bledsoe, what disappointment or surprise? This is just typical liberals, it is what they are.

Tebow has visited the White

Tebow has visited the White House with the UF championship team and was not "shunned" by President Obama in any manner. As far as I know Collins has never had that honor. Being the first athlete in any of the four major sports to come out as gay is a pretty big story. It also took a good bit of guts. Not simply for coming out in the macho world of men's sports, but doing it while he's a free agent and running the extra risk that he won't be signed and his career will be over. Finally, no one has really hit on the main answer. President Obama doesn't really give a rip about football. He plays basketball on the side. His brother-in-law is a basketball coach. It's his game. It's where his heart is. While football rules in the south, that's not the case everywhere.

He's like us. He's free to

He's like us. He's free to call anyone he wants. There's probably a higher chance MLB, NFL, NHL, or NBA players will answer his call and not ours.

Your points are on target, but wasted on folks here with a "conservative" "agenda."

That's a fair question.

A call as "president", probably not.

But as Barrack Obama, who just happens to be "president", the news media are bound to jump on it.

And why would Barrack Obama

And why would Barrack Obama "who just happens to be president" be calling a individual, who just happens to be a basketball player and announcing that he is gay.

I'm sure there are several basketball players (as well as other sports) who are straight, maybe just got married or had a child, or some other special event occurring in their life, and they don't rate a call from Barrack Obama, who just happens to be ALL OF OUR president.

If you had really read what I posted, and then thought about it, your response is exactly the point of my post.

Why do you think you need to make my point again?
