Azziz's exploitation stinks

  • Follow Letters

Concerning the article “Azziz to reimburse GRU for resources used at private wedding” (April 23), there are several aspects of this story that seem as if they have an odor:

• Normally, private misuse of public assets results in an indictment by the grand jury. When is this act going to be reviewed, if ever? As a citizen, I ask you to compare this act to an act that a past Saluda County, S.C., sheriff did using inmate labor for private use or gain. Each of these acts seems very similar to me. What do you think?

• The difference in the repayment amount of $416 compared to the $1,600 that the public would pay for access to the same assets makes it seem as if the taxpayer is getting a raw deal, according to my arithmetic! What would your checkbook say?

• University policy states that the university “must provide security” for the president’s home. This is acceptable and is meant for the safety of the university president and his dependents living at the home. However, it is not meant for the exploitation by the university president where security is used at a private wedding party for a niece, who is not a taxpayer responsibility in any way. Maybe Georgia Regents University President Ricardo Azziz’s niece should have had the party at the Partridge Inn and paid the rates that a normal taxpayer would pay.

Where are the checks and balances that stop this type of misuse? This is not the first time that Azziz has misused funds. For example, do you remember the $45,500 in taxpayer funds that were used for a university name study, and then the study was not presented to the Board of Regents for consideration by Azziz?

Azziz thinks he can get away with anything because in the past he has without any recourse or reaction by the community at-large or our elected leaders.

Misappropriation of Government Vehicles

After my time in the Army I’m acutely aware of such things as misappropriation of government vehicles. There was a way for a bus to be used for recreational purposes, but it had to be justified and approved ahead of time as a morale building event for any and all in the unit desiring to go on such as a trip. The event would usually be a day trip to the ocean or park, but the trips weren’t always approved. If someone tried to use a vehicle for a personal family function, he would be in serious trouble with probable court martial consequences.

Now Now. Don't you realize that Augusta ain't cool?

Should'nt we leave the "cool one" alone and let him reign over his kingdom?

school rides

Should't he take his children to school himself rather than officers in patrol cars to do it or him? Oh well, he would probably find some other city or university transportation to take care of it for him.

First of all these incidents

First of all these incidents simply demonstrate that Azziz is and arrogant narcissist who thinks he is above the law.

Second, I see no reason his taxpayer provided home should be provided security. He is a two bit government bureaucrat....not the POTUS or governor. What makes his security any more important than MY security? From what I have seen, WE should be provided protection against HIM and his family who apparently have acquired his arrogance through osmosis.

I agree with dichotomy's 11:21 AM

I with you ! Why does this Azziz guy merit, or even need, security ?! Maybe it's because of the majority of CSRA citizens WANT HIM TO JUST LEAVE !!

Let Azziz use bus one last time.....

........as a moving van to leave Augusta.
That's the ONLY appropriate use, in my opinion.
Also, he should pay taxes on the "Fair Market Value" of any benefits he receives as "god of the university" (pun intended).
Send him packing ASAP, or prosecute appropriately.

.
Or at a minimum, an Article 15 just as a slap on the wrist by "The Old Man".

The way he's going

... he may be the Democratic candidate in 2016. He has everything the present officeholder had: No credentials, no experience, disdain for lesser beings (as designated by him as uncool) just overweaning pride and arrogance.

Complain to Nathan Deal Look,

Complain to Nathan Deal

Look, I get that people are upset. But, you need to follow the chain of command. Azziz does not report to anyone in Augusta. He reports to the Board of Regents. The only real means of communication between Augusta and the Board of Regents is Azziz, so he tells them what he wants them to hear about GRU. You can tell them what you think about GRU and Azziz at http://www.usg.edu/contact/ . The Board is appointed by the Governor, you can tell him what you think about GRU and Azziz at http://gov.georgia.gov/webform/contact-governor-domestic-form . Unless you alter the opinions of Azziz in either the governor or BoR, you can complain in the newspaper till the cows come home and it won't make a difference.
