Obama's response slow

  • Follow Letters

It is obvious that no one had any idea who was responsible for the April 15 bombings in Boston. Yet, did anyone notice that it took two hours before President Obama addressed the bombings?

When 9-11 occurred, President Bush was on all the stations talking about the disaster within minutes, and he talked without having to refer to any notes or use a teleprompter. Surprisingly, the press never commented on why there was no comment from the White House or the president for two hours. If President Bush waited that long, the press would be screaming for his blood. When President Obama finally spoke two-plus hours later, he had to read his comments. When bad news happens, President Obama has to wait until someone writes what he should say.

President Obama is a talking head and an empty suit.

Actually...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rg5NvKpJfKE

This footage was taken at Emma E. Booker Elementary School in Sarasota, FL. At the moment White House Press Secretary Andrew Card whispers to President Bush the words "a second plane has hit the second tower, America is under attack", it is 9:05 AM. He continues to read to the children, then meets with the Cabinet in a Secret Service-held room at the school.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QP1K84iRZPo

Still at Booker Elementary, President Bush delivers public remarks at 9:29 AM with incomplete information about the situation, and from prepared, pre-typed notes. At this point, it has been almost forty-five minutes since Flight 11 hit the North Tower (which was at 8:46 AM), and Flight 77 has not hit the Pentagon, nor has Flight 93 crashed into Shanksville.

He does not speak again on television until 8:30 PM, when he delivers an address to the nation. That is just fifteen minutes shy of twelve hours after Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower.

Next time, don't just blatantly lie in a letter to the editor.

This link might be helpful for next time.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/9/11_timeline

This breaks down the exact sequence of events, where you can see that President Bush read from prepared notes briefly at exactly 42 minutes and 30 seconds after Flight 11's impact, and then did not make any comments again for 11 hours and 1 minute, which was the first time he mentioned Flights 77 and 93. He was not "on all of the stations talking about the disaster within minutes". (Unless we're expanding the conversational definition of "minutes" to be literally any amount of time that can be measured in minutes.) And when he WAS on television, his remarks were brief, vague, and from prepared notes. (Which is not at all a criticism of President Bush; I can't imagine what else he would have done, having incomplete information about a rapidly changing situation.)

And you better believe the address he gave from the White House was from a teleprompter, because President Bush, like President Obama, has both speechwriters and the ability to read.

To paraphrase Mr. Wilson himself in another letter to the editor he wrote, didn’t he read any news reports, watch TV news, or do any research before writing the letter?

I'm really surprised that a letter of such low quality was actually published for the public to read.

@specsta

It reminds me of this really silly internet meme where it shows a clip from an informercial of someone dropping something or breaking something (you know, the black-and-white "how many times has THIS happened to you?" footage) and it says "Thanks, Obama" afterwards.

Well, you probably shouldn't be.

Some people are showing themselves to be as obsessed with tearing President Obama down as others were with tearing President Bush down before him. Like those before them, they have begun to push themselves to almost never-before-seen levels of delusion. They can't accurately describe reality, and they even create false memories (such as the false memory of Bush's response) to justify their obsession.

Letter

It is clear that the impetus for this letter is to disparage the President rather than focus on the hurt of so many people who have been scarred in unspeakable terms. For once can people not think of politics in every situation?

Politicians have read from prepared statements since the beginning of time (I would imagine). It shows that one wants to be reflective in choosing the right words at the right moment when emotions are running high. We have too many people who "shoot from the hips" when they should give more thought to their words.

How I wish this writer had "read" his own "prepared statement," so-called letter, 10 times before hitting the submit button!!

Perspective....

I am willing to but you won't find many if any Obama supporters who believe that he is favored by the media!

Indeed, it is a matter of perspective. But I do agree that both are unfairly targeted. I don't think I can recall an objective editorial by ACES in this paper about Obama. There may have been some but so few that it is hard to remember any.

karradur, specsta, burninater, palmetto1008,Truth Matters, nobody should cut down our Lord King American Leader. He has never been blamed for anything in the past and never will be blamed in the future.
This horrific crime that has happened in Boston was not the act of terrorism, but Sequestration cause by the bad Conservative Republicans. Because of the Sequestration, the necessary funds needed for the FBI to operate effectively and prevent this undetected killing was not available. I'm glad your News sources is covering this well and keeping the American public informed of the real killers and not place the blame on muslim nations that we, as a great peace loving nation, support.

@ymnbde - What does a perceived media bias have to do with the fact that Mr. Wilson's letter was objectively, factually incorrect?

@bubbasauce - I am at work, what are you doing?

@rockymissy1 - So waiting twelve hours is "the right thing to do" and waiting two hours is "the wrong thing to do". Got it.

@CobaltGeorge - You have an avatar with a message about how you want to kill people with different opinions than your own. You must be a Muslim, right?

Mr. Wilson's letter is wrong. Flat-out wrong. Take a step back and look at the objective facts. Ignore Republican and Democrat or conservative and liberal for a moment. For whatever reason, either because he is being intentionally untruthful or because he does not have an accurate memory, he is lying. It doesn't really matter which one he is, because his letter makes assertions that are easily disproven by a factual record of events that 99.9% of reasonable people would agree actually happened, regardless of political alignment or inclination.

Now, from that, I draw my own personal conclusions about Mr. Wilson's intent, and the intent of the commenters that have so far posted against me. And you can draw your own conclusions as well.

Aside from not being able to

Aside from not being able to say the word terrorism until the next day, I think Obama responded fairly quickly. Almost as quickly as he did in demanding a second tax hike right after the Republicans compromised and gave him the tax hike he has been demanding for 4 years.

Oh, and I see how Obama figures he is going to balance the budget. You retired military folks should check out his budget proposal for the new charges for Tricare For Life and Tricare Prime. Another almost $700 a year out of your retirement checks for TFL to be increased each year by the amount of COLA. Time to get on the horn to your House and Senate representatives. You old vets know the deal.....the wars are over, screw the soldiers. $700 a year may not hurt a retired general or colonel, but it puts a dent in a retired enlisted person's check and can devastate someone who retired 20 or 30 years ago at the pay scales back then.

Obviously, I don't agree with this LTE at all

We are talking about 2 hours. Doesn't The President need to get facts before talking to the whole nation ? How about when President George W. did not even land in New Orleans during the after-math of the hurricane ? Perhaps if he was in "Helicopter 1", he and his crew could have saved some people on-top of their roofs !

I don't even understand what you're trying to say. Are you saying President Obama killed the marathon runners and is deflecting attention from himself? Are you saying that arrests HAVEN'T been made in Turkey, Egypt, and and Libya in October, December, and March, respectively, of suspects in the Benghazi attack? Because those are a matter of historical record.

I believe it would lower the crime rate....

I think that everyone over the age of 18 should have a gun, carry it, and be able to properly use it. I dont believe the men that held up the Bi-Lo on Peach Orchard rd would have done so if they knew that everyone in that store had a gun. If we all have them then it elimates the fear of them. So someone tries to rob you...well guess what buddy I have a gun too!!

As parents you are responsible for teaching gun safty to your children and make sure that they are unable to get them.

karrunder..your first

karrunder..your first question is simply to silly to answer.. please read Panettas own testimony b/4 congress regarding obumlers interest into the bengazis attacks.. and no i was not there for obumler and panetta ..concerning benganzi ...i relied on his testimony ..promblem was that obumler WASNT THERE EITHER..while american died..the odfficial account was BUSH KEPT UP WITH EVERYTHING DURING 9-11-I believe he is a honorable man..unlike obumler..and one other question all the survivors from bengazi have been kept from congress and the press..its a sorry state of affairs that the narrative on bengazi is so often changed and the originial party-line is based on a blantant lie..

I detest Obama's politics

But as others have said, using the Boston bombing as a vehicle to take political shots at him is not appropriate. He has a long, sorry record of managing the country's affairs, which should give plenty of ammmunition for legitimate criticism.

Ridiculous letter

I detested Bush ll, but the fact of the matter is no modern day president is out of the loop or unaware of what is going on (except possibly Reagan who I fully believe was senile going into his second term). If I knew everyone in a store was armed I'd think twice about entering for fear it would be filled with a bunch of gun loving trigger happy yahoos like some who post on here who'd probably blow you away if you're cell phone rang and you reached in your pocket too fast. Especially if you fit the wrong demographic.

I don't like Obama. He's never proven

himself anything more than an unaccomplished incompetent, with low leadership skills. (Outside of politics, that is.)

On the other hand, I see nothing wrong with the way he has conducted himself (so far) following this terrorist incident.

When the dust has settled it may turn out that he screwed the pooch, but until then, I'll leave him alone.
