Animal deaths saddening

  • Follow Letters

I just wanted to comment on the article on the front page of the paper April 2 regarding the large percentage of animals being euthanized (“Animal kill rate is high”).

It just broke my heart to hear this. I had no idea how really bad it was.

I understand sometimes pets may escape from their yards, but I know there also are people who don’t watch their animals or even care if they run away. Animals are a responsibility, and people should not adopt them if they can’t take care of them. Very upsetting!

Responsibility

I agree it is heartbreaking to know that there are so many irresponsible owners out there. Pets are like children-they need food, water, shelter, medical care & attention-if you can't afford a child-don't get a pet. The problem with so many people today is that they think an animal is cute when it's young and innocent but then they complain about having to put time into training, etc. Or in hopes of making a pretty penny off their litter. Here is the thing people-IT'S YOUR RESPONSIBILITY! If you think it's too much work-maybe you should have thought about that in the first place. These animals are innocent-they didn't ask you to take them home or ask you to breed them in hopes of money. So if you can't afford to take care of the animal or animals-just don't get any & don't breed them. Get your animals spayed and neutured. Save the animal heartbreak of being abandoned and save the city from having to euthanize these poor animals that you were too irresponsible to care for.

Yes GI Jane

A lot of people would be much better of with a Chia Pet.

These days, owning a dog or cat, and properly taking care of them with veternary visits and quality food is very expensive. Pets have become a luxury, and if you can't afford to take proper care of these animals who are totally dependent on you for their well being and welfare, don't get one.
