Obama is a friend to Israel

  • Follow Letters

Cal Thomas’ column in The Augusta Chronicle (“Flight of fancy,” March 24) denigrating President Obama’s trip to Israel is typical of those friendly to Israel but who never believed the president was a friend of Israel.

Any person with logic who listened to the president in Israel must be so impressed with his passion and directness. He clearly stated that the United States stands with Israel and that there must be a two-state solution to bring peace to the area. His remarks brought the young Israeli audience to a standing ovation. What more does Thomas and his cronies who hung on to Mitt Romney as the friend of Israel want?

Obama bolstered our ally Jordan and met the Palestinians, and pulled off a great coup when he had Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu call the Turkish prime minister to apologize for the unfortunate incident in which Israel attacked a Turkish ship. Thus, he brought another ally for Israel into play.

The Republicans who whispered before the election that Obama was no friend of Israel may continue to believe so, but the rest of the world and the Israelis themselves are now convinced he is.

Obama NEEDS Israel...Israel

Obama NEEDS Israel...Israel needs the U.S. Take Iran out of the mix and see what happens...

Friendship should not to be mistaken for the relationship that exists regarding Obama and Netanyahu.

I am a "person with logic"

But I simply cannot listen to the words of a silver tounged devil. Logic tells me to pay attention to the deeds or actions of such a person for the truth. I recommend doing the same, if truth is what you're after in the first place.

So Obama doesn't set foot in the borders of Israel the first term, and when he does in his second term he endorses statehood for Palestine.

I agree, with friends like that who needs enemies.

I will bless those who bless you,
and whoever curses you I will curse;
and all peoples on earth
will be blessed through you.

Lowell Lowell Lowell. Don't

Lowell Lowell Lowell. Don't think for a minute that Israel believes Obama is their friend. They were just being polite. Unlike Obama was to Netanyahu was when he visited here. As for the standing ovation by the young Israelis....well, they are easily fooled by TV performances just like the young voters in this country. It's unfortunate that young voters are so easily fooled by feel good ideology and a teleprompter speech delivered by an empty suit with a smiley face. But they will learn as they progress from the "taken care of" into the ranks of the "taking care of".

So Lowell, you can try to make us believe that Israel now thinks that Obama is their friend but I'll bet that their bombers are still on hot standby on the tarmac.

I must say that the first part of Obama's speech on history was

pretty good; but, when he transition into, "Put yourself in the Palestinian youth's place..." it went downhill to his Islamic sympathizing mode. Talking about "fairness" and quoting Saul Alynsky. The youth of Israel are as blinded as are the youth in America are. Hearing Obama speak is one thing...listening to what he says is another.

Preconditions

During Obama's visit to Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu got to say on the record that he is ready to resume talks with the Palestinian Authority as long as there are no preconditions. That takes the wind out of Obama's and Abbas' sails, because they are calling for a precondition that the pre-1967 borders be re-established. That is ridiculous and impossible, because hundreds of thousands of Israeli people reside outside those borders, along with businesses and infrastructure they built for their citizens.

In the two-state talks, borders can be negotiating points, but a demand for impossible borders cannot be a pre-condition.

Blind and Deaf(to truth)

Mr. Greenbaum, you cannot possibly believe Obama cares one iota about the little country of Israel..... the Jewish people of Judah and Benjamin tribes. You have been deceived, and you do not even seem to care, about yourself or your people. And guess what? Obama doesn't care about America either, he has an agenda that is sooooo evident to the most of us. You are definitely one of the those that cannot "see or hear". And rebellious, the verse you quoted, it is not only for 2 tribes of Israel(Jacob), there are 10 other tribes that belong to GOD.............Mr. Greenbaum, you know this, don't you?

Lowell, please

Get your head out of... well, out of wherever it is that makes you so completely obtuse regarding reality.

Really, Lowell; you've outdone yourself this time. Even you can't actually believe the nonsense you've written indicates Obobblehead gives a tinker's damn about Israel. He doesn't.

He doesn't, among other things, because he does not share the values of mainstream America, which support traditional marriage, traditional morality and loyalty to our traditional allies, including Israel.

You really have taken up with extremely strange bedfellows, particularly the type that are doing everything possible to suck the life right out of the United States.

You must be very proud.

Of course to really look at Presidents ...
Unpublished

who have demonstrated close ties with Israel, we must surely look to President Nixon who visited Israel in the 6th year of his presidency. President Ford who visited Israel in ... oh wait he never did. Surely Ronald Reagan who went to Israel in, ah no, never did. Perhaps George Bush Sr, who represented Republican wholehearted support for Israel when he travelled there in ... oops sorry, he never vistied Israel either. Well, thank goodness President George W. Bush made up for it when he visited Israel in the 8th year of his presidency.

While we're at it, please forget President Carter's Camp David Accord which has resulted in almost 40 years of peace between Israel and Egypt; President Clinton's six trips to Israel and the architect of the Oslo Accords, as well as the current President’s support to Israel …
a 2013 budget request which includes $3.1 billion in Foreign Military Financing; $15 million for refugee resettlement; $99.8 million in joint U.S.-Israeli co-development for missile defense - the most foreign aid given to any country in the history of the United States.

But maybe you're right … perhaps he’s trying to sabotage them by supporting them too much?

Hey fedex....

.....don't muddy the water by stating the facts. This crowd already has it's collective mind made up about Obama. Oh, by the way, I have not noticed any drop in the massive funding that we give to Israel no matter who is the president.

He has also given 2 Billion

He has also given 2 Billion in financial aid to Egypt this year; along with 200 M-1 Abram Tanks and 20 F-16 Fighter Jets. All this to a Country who has stated they don't believe Israel has the right to exist and "Jihad is the goal". Morsi has even stated he believes Israel should be wiped of the map.

As a matter of FACT, Obama has not created ANY new assistance programs to Israel. He has only CONTINUED the "Memorandum of Understanding" Created by George W. Bush, which allocated 30 Billion to Israel over 10 years. So Obama, has ONLY stuck to the terms ALREADY EXISTING, not created any NEW assistance programs himself. So, I suppose in liberal minds, since Obama is the "savior" he should also get credit for programs started under the previous President.

So the previous President gets ALL the credit for everything BAD that has happened to the Country, but Obama gets credit for anything good done by the previous President?? Hhhhhmmmm, just doesn't sound right. But it DOES sound like Obama/liberal non-sense lies.

Oh wait......he vistied

Oh wait......he vistied Israel so that MUST mean he absolutely supports them; even after saying they should go back to pre-1967 borders, which would leave Israel completely defenseless. Yes, just like everything else with Obama, we should believe what he SAYS not what his actions show. Believe your ears, not your eyes. This guy must REALLY love Israel. Wow, was I wrong.
