Fidelity, equality different

It’s a shame syndicated columnist Cal Thomas couldn’t resist taking a cheap shot at former President Bill Clinton in a recent column (“The sound of inevitability,” March 13). It would have done him, if not his arguments for the Defense of Marriage Act, some credit to have taken a slightly higher road. Ad hominem attacks never reflect well on those who use them, and DOMA has nothing to do with marital fidelity. As Mr. Thomas knows.

The Defense of Marriage Act might actually make some sense if it did have something to do with marital fidelity.

If it were not UNGODLY, it would be hilarious. Without error, all government mandates NAMES mean exactly the opposite of the intent.

The NEW DEAL. The GREAT SOCIETY. The WAR on DRUGS. The WAR on POVERTY. The WAR to end ALL WARS. CIVIL RIGHTS. CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN. AFFORDABLE MEDICAL CARE.
