GRU's changes ruining city

  • Follow Letters

I would like to know how Georgia Regents University President Ricardo Azziz has so much power. I also would like to know who hired him and who can fire him.

I am so proud of the Augusta State University national golf champions, but since the name of the merged university changed, other golf teams won’t know who they are. They won’t know that ASU was the national champ.

I also would like to know why university employees were cut because of the budget. And I heard that changing the school’s name from the Medical College of Georgia likely cost millions.

If the reason for all this is more university research, I had rather die of something that hasn’t been researched than have our city ruined.

Critical Mass Has Been Reached

Critical mass has been reached with criticism of Azziz’s administration. The letter yesterday by former ASU President Dr. Kenny gave us an insider’s view of the problems Azziz has caused and his apparent inept administrative abilities. The public is bombarding the Chronicle with letters to the editor almost daily. There are two today. The criticism has become self-sustaining creating negative scrutiny of Azziz and the institutions that is intolerable. The snowball is rolling down the hill getting bigger and bigger.

Unfortunately,

the people who need to be most impacted by this negative scrutiny don't live here, and they hired Azziz to take the hits for them.

None of this community outrage will make any difference unless it (1) can be made to cost the board of regents members in some tangible way, ie, their pocketbooks, or (2) genuinely threatens the re-election of Nathan the not-so-real Deal.

I'm for a public revelation of all the business interests and associations of the BOR membership, with an ensuing boycott by all the interested and outraged. I also would contribute financially to an anti-Nathan Deal media effort, especially one that includes as a reason the MCG-ASU debacle, at the next election involving him.

That's what will make a difference for us. Azziz is just the diversion and shield they put up to protect themselves. His personal and management style make him the perfect target for drawing the fire to himself, which may be exactly what these savvy, cunning men intended. He may be an even bigger dupe than the rest of us.
