Azziz clearly loathes Augusta

  • Follow Letters

The solution to the efforts of a man who evidently hates the South and has no respect for the heritage of Augusta is to send him back to California and change his name from Azziz to Azzwas. He is a dictator, not a president.

Clearly, Georgia Regents University President Ricardo Azziz knows nothing of the history of Augusta and the South. We are one of the original 13 colonies. Everyone I have ever known who came to the South from elsewhere falls in love with it. I remember my husband saying, “When a good job comes available in the South, we have hundreds of applicants from the North.” They want to come to the South, and especially love Augusta because of our rich traditions in culture; as the “Golf Capital” and our weather that allows one to play golf year-round; our proximity to both the mountains and the ocean; and our strong Christian heritage.

He was hired for a ridiculous salary that we taxpayers are paying him to create turmoil in our city and state. He can easily be fired and sent packing. And we will not vote for those who brought him here. If the governor and the University System Board of Regents insist he stay, discourage our students from enrolling in GRU. When customers are not happy, they go elsewhere.

It has long been known that hundreds of military choose to retire here because of our weather and excellent medical facilities. Why let a man who clearly hates our traditions change all the good for worse?

Years ago, people I knew from other towns in Georgia said, “When I went to college in (another city here in Georgia), the smartest students were from Tubman Girls High School and the Academy of Richmond County.” The medical students who attended the Medical College of Georgia years ago were far better physicians than most who graduate today.

Give Azziz a ticket to go back to California and change his name to Azzwas.

Dear Gov Deal

If you can replace 6 BOE members in DeKalb...surely you can replace 1 misplaced guy in Augusta....surely.

California here I come.....could be a nice song for him...

He's not out biggest problem, surprisingly enough.

The Board of Regents, and by extension, Nathan Deal, are by far the bigger problem, and until they either are convinced they are making a mistake they will continue doing exactly what they are doing.

They're the ones whose total lack of interest in Augusta has allowed them to treat us and our heritage as completely inconsequential, even irrelevant to both ASU and MCG. After having them flip us the middle finger salute, they, with their smiling, always upbeat toady, have tossed us a few bones:
Hyphen Augusta was the first (thank you Save-the-A, for accepting that on our behalf). A one-room (but it's a big room!) museum to shelve the artifacts of our two-century history is the more recent one.

Aren't we placated! How well those fence repairs are coming along! Oh, yes.

This is one of most concise, yet fitting argument for the removal of Azziz. We do not need this Hispanic to preside over us.

Since this is now so much in the political arena

where is our local legislative delegation? They seem to be silent on the whole issue.

correctness is Augusta's problem. Rather than having "leadership" search for the most qualified individual to lead the local university system, they went after someone of diversity to show their "tolerance". Good luck in the future.

Gravy

From the letter:

Dr. Azziz can rope-a-dope these letter writers in his sleep. He will be here a lo-o-o-ong time. He's on a gravy train here and he knows it.

Ricardo Azziz

is a little despot who needs to be exiled. He views GRU as belonging to him and unfortunately, the Board of Regents has done nothing to disillusion him of this fantasy. I personally have a fantasy of my own. It involves a forehead, some Flunitrazepam, a tattoo gun, the letter 'A' and a fourteen day cruise, on any of the ships in the Carnival Cruise line's fleet, in the middle of July. But I won't get into that. ; )

BTW...

What in the world is [filtered word]was? I've racked my brain to figure it out, but I can't think what the filtered part might be when coupled with the 'was' ending.

@ CricketSeranade

Our word filter is supposed to be turned off on stories and editorials. It appears someone has turned it back on. I will take care of it shortly. I'm sorry about that.

I too am like Cricket.

I wanted to know what filtered word a lady who is old enough to talk about Tubman Girls school used in her letter. I bet she really is a "lady" and using a "filtered word" had my curiosity up! LOL! :)

This should not be put on

This should not be put on Azziz. He was hired to do a job by the Board of Regents, and he is doing it. They hired him, they can fire him, but no one in Augusta has much input. The Board of Regents has no representative from Augusta, and no alumni from AC, ASU, Paine, MCG, GHSU, or GRU on its board. The majority are from UGa, with a smattering of Georgia Tech, Emory, and Georgia Southern. The Governor appoints the board, and ultimately he bears much responsibility - and he is the only elected official with an iron in the fire. So if you want to complain - talk to Nathan Deal.

The dictator needs to go

It is amazing to me that this little Napoleon is found to be value added to the public institutions of higher learning in Augusta. He has done more to destroy our institutions in a few short years than over 50 years for ASU and almost 200 years for MCG.
