America is a failing nation

  • Follow Letters

Thank you for “The evolution of stupidity,” the editorial in the March 10 paper. It was spot-on.

I am in my late 60s, and have never seen the stupidity I see today. People are rewarded for irresponsibility. It’s not just executives of large corporations; it’s everyday Americans. The government handouts of taxpayer money are taking away the incentive for people to get educated to get jobs. Some Americans receive up to four checks per month. They are living a middle-class life with no responsibility.

Parents do not take responsibility for their kids. If something happens, it’s someone else’s fault. We are turning out stupid high-school and college graduates because of a failure in our education system. The teachers take no responsibility. Politicians in Washington, both Democrats and Republicans, are totally irresponsible.

Americans need to wake up to the fact that we are a failing nation.

Not really

Well, Mr. Freuler, we do have problems. Everybody has problems. But this is a great nation of unlimited potential, and please do not let any anxieties that you feel blind you to the fact that our future will continue to be great. It is ironic that people who call themselves conservatives often hold attitudes such as those expressed in this letter. Be of good cheer, and be aware that old folks like you and me are not the nation's last hope.

In other words....do NOT question the democratic plan to turn this nation into Socialist Europe. Just hide your head in the sand and let it happen.

You are correct, this is the greatest nation on earth with unlimited potential and this is the reason we oppose the direction we are headed. Soon under the current liberal leadership we now have your statement will no longer be true.

Liberal Utopia

The goal of liberals is to make everyone dependent on their superior intellect by redistributing income of the "wealthy and well connected" using a "fair and balanced" approach so that everyone pays their "fair share". This will result in " no one working".

Excellent letter

What made this country great was individualism and self reliance--the two things which to liberals are like a cross to a vampire.
If these are the stalwarts of our country it takes the power away from the liberals who want people to depend on them for as much as possible.
If one does not believe this, all one has to do is look at quotes made by Ted Kennedy and Hillary Clinton which said basically, "All this individualism has to go."
When we loose these two things, the nation will cease to be great. Sad to say it is on that downward slide now and the slope is becoming steeper.

time for the quote of the 21st century. "The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can not pay it's own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our government's reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that "the buck stops here." Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. America deserves better". sen. barack h. obama, March 2006.

It is liberal leftist policy

It is liberal leftist policy that is destroying this Country. Their policies have basically been in place for 100 years; with a few conservatives in the White House but not enough to make a difference. Again, their POLICIES have been in place; even when "conservatives" have been President.

But America is NOT doomed; don't think like that. America is the greatest Country in the existence of mankind, mainly for one reason; GOD. We built this Country on Him and continued that until the secular left policies took over. We will continue to lose battles, but we WILL NOT lose the war. We have the victory in the end. We still have a SAVIOR and he is our Savior in more ways than you can count. He will save Freedom from these people (communist leftists) that wish to annihilate it from existence. They will be sorry for their positions, one day soon.

myfather, isn't it wonderful that we know, as bad as it may and will get, we are still going to be on the winning side? I do understand where the letter writer is coming from, it upsets many of us as to who and what has been bringing our great country down to what it is now.................

We are adding 3500 people a day to the food stamp roles with similiar increases in the welfare roles and fake disability and SSI claims. And of course we have the "never ending story" of infinite unemployment benefits. The system will collapse under it's own weight. The only question is when. The only thing keeping us afloat now is our former good credit reputation which has already been downgraded twice and further eroded by the continuous printing of worthless money. There is a point along the debt chart from which you cannot possibly recover. We are there. The only question now is will it be self imposed austerity or will it be eventual forced austerity.

The real issue
Unpublished

The real issue is the growing income and wealth inequality where the 1% is grabbing more and more of the income. Our politicians are bought and paid for by the wealthy. This country has a horrible health care system, 20% of the children live in poverty, our infrastructure is crumbling and we waste billions on military toys that do not work. I could go on but I won't. Yes this country is in decline when the needs of the 1% take precedence over the needs of the majority. The outlook is very grim if we continue to have the vast divisions in wealth and opportunity.

A wake-up call came to me yesterday

when I read that Vladdie Putin and I have exactly the same opinion about Obummer's handling of our finances: He's either a complete idiot or he is actually trying to destroy the American economy.

When Putin and a fairly moderate conservative totally agree on something that basic, you've got to wonder just how far off the rails we really are.

So yeah, anybody who hasn't drunk the lefty-lib-Obummer kool aid can see we're a failing nation, without any haze on it.

Being 73

I may not see the ending of what is coming down the pike. Here is what I feel should be done before I go. All the conservatives in the power to be, should just quit fighting the Democats and Hammer & Sickle man and support all he wants.

By doing so, it would Wake UP This Nation and just maybe the results would be able to save it. The Cry for help and yelling proven facts just ain't doing a darn thing.

"the two things which to liberals are like a cross to a vampire"

and this classic of rational discourse

"drunk the lefty-lib-Obummer kool aid"

HA, Re your 3:31:Showing

HA, Re your 3:31:

Showing that an individual is specifically guilty of the exact behavior they attribute to others is in not an ad hominem attack.

Further, characterizing "drunk the lefty-lib-Obummer kool aid" as non-meaningful dialogue is an attack on neither character nor motivation.

Since we are exploring examples however, you may be interested to know that "drunk the lefty-lib-Obummer kool aid" is, in fact, an excellent example of an ad hominem attack. It does not seek to refute the substance of the argument, but rather to attack the arguer's character and motivation.

.
This is NOT a great nation unless we keep fighting and working to make it so. The more we look to government to solve our problems, the weaker (less great) America becomes.

Flash back to the 1980's and Bobby McFerrin's "Don't Worry, Be Happy"

One line from that song succinctly encapsulates today's liberal view of America.

"The landlord say your rent be late, he may have to litigate."

And that sums up the message we hear today from those who continue to discount individualism, self reliance and responsibility for our actions.

Why

are we the greatest nation on earth? I keep hearing people say that. We aren't and never were and does it really matter? It's an uneducated remark and shows that most people have no idea how we got so rich. Off the backs of peoples of other nations. Schools don't teach you the real history and the government keeps secrets until someone finds out and passes on the information.

Oooh, Oooh! A conspiracy theory. Tell us more. Tell us about how Columbus brought syphilis to America and how we killed off the "Native Americans" by giving them blankets contaminated with the smallpox virus. Don't forget how we stole Manhattan for a bag of trinkets and beads. Remember too, that the attacks on Nagasaki and Hiroshima that ended WWII were racially motivated.

We must learn that we are an outcast, renegade, outlaw nation and ALL the others are SO much better than we are morally.

There, I feel so much better now that I've managed to get THAT off my chest.

PS - For the record, that tripe I wrote above (and so much more) is EXACTLY what our kids are learning today unless you are fortunate enough to be able to place them in private school.
