Obama preparing his next power grab

  • Follow Letters

The recent battle over the sequester budget cuts and several other issues facing our nation merely are a smokescreen for what actually is happening in our nation’s capital.

President Obama has continued his re-election campaign, aided by the mainstream media, targeting, once again, low-information voters. This was the same successful strategy Obama used in his re-election campaign, but this time his goal is to recapture the House of Representatives in 2014. Obama has realized over the past few years that to fully implement the “fundamental change” he promised, he must control both the House and Senate – as he did when he gave us Obamacare, and every issue that faces America is viewed as a political opportunity.

As his former chief of staff Rahm Emanuel once said, “You never let a serious crisis go to waste.” This advice was evident in the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy in Newtown, Conn., that quickly turned into an opportunity to advance gun control. Another example is the fiscal cliff “crisis” this past January that resulted in a deal that increased taxes on the “wealthy” to ensure that they pay their “fair” share using a “balanced approach.” Two months later, Obama allowed the sequester budget cuts to go into effect by insisting on more tax hikes on the wealthy and well-connected.

Further examples would be immigration reform, which has been a political windfall for Obama and the Democrats. Reform could be passed and implemented easily, but it is much to his advantage to keep immigration as an issue to exploit for votes.

It is ironic that the strongest supporters of the president are the very ones who are harmed the most by his polices, as the unemployment rate for minorities between ages 18 and 29 remains more than 20 percent. He has successfully managed not only to escape blame for the poor economy but reassign blame from former President Bush to the Republican-controlled House. Obama has an accomplice in the Senate – Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who makes sure nothing get accomplished that could benefit the Republicans.

The president has been artful at framing each issue in such a way as to give him the political high ground and make the Republicans seem to be the enemy of the working man when the opposite is reality. Just try to imagine what Obama actually would do if he successfully returns the House of Representatives to Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats in 2014. Pray for our country!

Excellent letter.

There is no telling what all Obama has done and will do to the country and will not be fully known for years to come. Too many people say he does understand what he's doing. I contend he knows exactly what he's doing because he has been trained and cultivated to make this country into a leftist country. He would be a Chavez if he had the opportunity. There is nothing in his background (what little we know of it) that indicates that he is nothing but a socialist leaning polished thug. His lack of concern for the country is shown by his absence of leadership in refusing to take the power offered by Congressto decide what the budget cuts occur. He doesn't want that authority because it will put responsibility on him and that is the last thing he wants...to be held accountable for anything.

The writer forgot about the locust plague Obama will send upon us. I choose to differ. The low information voters are the ones who believe the Republican propaganda that trickle down economics works. I do not understand why middle and working class people continue to support the Republican policies which increase income inequality and are harmful to them. Who really got hurt in the great recession? It wasn't the Wall Street bankers. It is not debt that is going to sink this country. I is the ever increasing ineqaulity.
