Pro-gay letter fell flat

  • Follow Letters

The letter “Gays merely want rights” by John Cashin (Feb. 22) was the lamest attempt to be cool and progressive that I have ever seen.

When did unnatural sex become a civil right? Funk & Wagnalls defines unnatural as “contrary to the laws of nature.” Homosexuality rarely occurs in the natural world because snakes know better, monkeys know better, and birds, fish, lizards and even insects know better.

Mr. Cashin states that gays have no agenda. That is the second-most preposterous statement in his letter. His most ridiculous statement is that no laws have been broken. A Georgia law criminalizes sodomy. Sheriffs’ deputies have a legal obligation to arrest any person they witness engaged in any act of sodomy.

He asks why we don’t write letters protesting rape, murder or incest. The answer? We don’t have to. Society has the good sense to arrest and jail those people.

He says “They just want their rights.” I guess he means civil rights, which are described by Funk & Wagnalls as private and nonpolitical. Do us all a favor and keep your sexual preferences private and nonpolitical.

By one reliable estimate, more than 97 percent of U.S. citizens are heterosexual. Why do we have to cater to the 3 percent? After years of research and billions of dollars spent, geneticists are unable to find a gene that causes people to be homosexual. Until we know that a person can be genetically predisposed to be homosexual, it remains a matter of choice.

Today’s gay rights movement may be the first time in history that such a small group of people have been so vocal, so adamant and so public to promote a sexual activity. The 97 percent have much more important things to attend to, such as God, family, jobs, food, clothes and shelter.

It would be good to remember

that some pf the people who comment on forums discussing homosexuality, especially like Steve Swimmer, troll for these LTEs and articles of this type. They do this with a specific agenda/list of talking-hating points in hand, courtesy of national organizations that promote/push/foist-upon-us the objectives of gay activists in the US.

Ignore them: They are impenetrable. Well, mostly.

@Fiat_Lux

Imagine if you opened your local newspaper and read a letter to the editor about how black people choose to be black and are therefore naturally inferior to white people.

Now imagine that that happens about once every two weeks.

If you were a black person, what would you do? How would you feel? Would you hold your tongue, or would you speak out?

The only reason homophobes

The only reason homophobes get away with it while racists and sexists don't is that, unlike race or gender, sexuality isn't immediately visually obvious.

Now think about that for a moment and try to figure out why some homosexuals like to be outspoken about the issue.

Don't hurt yourself thinking too hard.

myfather15:

Again, the argument isn't:

"Homosexuality is natural, therefore it is right."

It is:

"Homosexuality is natural, therefore the argument that it is wrong because it is unnatural is invalid."

The former argument can certainly be made and it may be valid; but when most proponents of marriage equality point out that homosexuality occurs in nature, they are making the latter argument (in response to the argument that homosexuality is unnatural, therefore it is wrong).

karradur stated "God is not

karradur stated "God is not stupid. He did not grant us logic and reason and then want us to reject them." You are correct.
'He would not create an unalterable, unchangeable biological phenomenon and then condemn it as evil. " You are correct.

God did not create homosexuality, sin did. God created man and woman perfect and it is because of sin that we have become cursed and flawed. Problem is, society has two different belief systems, those who do and those who don't. They will never be in agreement.

By the way, IF " outside mechanical or medical assistance" is not needed for a homosexual to concieve, it's not a homosexual act, now is it.

Who created shellfish-eating? Was that God or sin?

Can we burn down Rhinehart's?

Leviticus 11 is pretty clear about that and since we're following the Law of Moses to the absolute letter...

"I won't be graphic here, but I can imagine several scenarios where a homosexual could conceive and not require outside mechanical or medical assistance."

Oh please; don't spare us. Tell us exactly how this would work; my guess is it would have something to do with a lesbian going OUTSIDE of her relationship and fornicating with a MALE. Now, explain to me how a lesbian conceives in a FAITHFUL relationship, without outside help. Ok, now tell me how a male/male homosexual couple conceives; I really look forward to your answer.

You also said: "Maybe they don't desire the physical act that produces children, but they are certainly physically able to have children."

With each other as the biological parents? No? Enough said!!

Leviticus 11 is VERY clear that eating shellfish is "An abomination to YOU". Notice that didn't say to HIM, because it's not a SIN against your soul going to hell, to eat shellfish. It's a SIN BY YOU AGAINST YOU, because you are eating an unclean animal that CAN cause you to get sick. So if you get sick, don't blame HIM for it. He created these bodies, you would think he would know the best foods to place in them to keep them healthy; and if he thought enough to create them, you would think he would pass that information along to us, therefore WE could make the decision to eat those healthier foods. Hhhhhmmm, thats rocket science ain't (Intentional) it?

See, it does take paying a little attention AND common sense to understand God's word. If you would PRAY to Him and ask to be healed, He would probably give you that common sense; or just go about INTENTIONALLY misleading people on the Bible.

Why do some people insist that if you don't approve of something that you must fear it, and feel compelled to label you as a "homophobe?" I never see pro life people try to label pro "choice" people as pedophobes.

karradur, the problem you and

karradur, the problem you and others seem to have (besides being silly and sarcastic when others disagree with you) is the inability to understand the difference between civil, ceremonial, and moral laws under the Old Covenant. This is understandable because of different belief systems.

Not all of Leviticus is written to everyone. There were abominations that applied only to the Jews such as eating shellfish, rabbit, and pork, etc., which were things that commonly represented purity before the Lord. We know this because God says, "Speak to the sons of Israel saying..." He gives instructions to the Israelites, not to the rest of the nations. However, there are abominations that did not apply only to Israel, but to everyone else also. The moral laws spoken about in the Old Testament are repeated throughout the New Testament and will always remain moral laws. The civil and ceremonial law have been fulfilled by the New Covenant and payment is no longer required for righteousness or forgiveness.

I guess this is what really

I guess this is what really eats them alive. NATURE created it where they CAN NOT be the same as hetrosexual couples, no matter how much they claim they are. Nature doesn't allow them to have the ULTIMATE union, and that is one man and one woman, BECOMING ONE BEING through passing their DNA into one child. But the kicker is, God created nature, and they CAN'T defeat this, so it absolutely eats their souls alive.

Most estimates are that there

Most estimates are that there are substantial genetic contributions sexual orientation, and that they explain 15-30% of the variability in sexual orientation (that is, if you knew the genetic background, you could predict correctly much better than if you did not know the genetic background). The evidence on heritability of homosexuality is reviewed in the introduction of this article.

My dog will hump just about anything in sight, including a stuffed teddy bear, does that mean I should call Vermont Teddy Bears an order the life sized version?

Now, please tell me which of the species you cited, actually PROCREATES with same sex. I do believe EACH still requires the opposite sex to procreate.

Yes, this issue is divisive,

Yes, this issue is divisive, but there is clearly a right and a wrong here that should not take a decade or two to see (unless, of course, the journalist is blind or bigoted). Gays who are not being allowed to marry are clearly being hurt (harmed) by those laws. And the people who are upset at gays marrying are experiencing no real tangible harm. If you were a reporter in Germany in the 1930's and 1940's, would you have been "even-handed" in your reporting of how the minorities were being treated by German law? Or would you have seen that there was clearly a right and a wrong and that the minorities were being harmed and that the people supporting the the laws against the minorities were not being harmed. It's a pretty simple and straight forward question of ethics. Do you report so as to allow the continuation of harm to a minority or a less powerful person or group or do you report in such a manner as to help change the situation that is causing harm? I would argue that being "even-handed" in such situations is morally wrong!

The bottom line is this; many

The bottom line is this; many leftists (No, not just homosexuals) claim to be atheists, which is fine. But I believe, even if they KNEW God existed for a fact, they would still absolutely despise Him. Why? Because He created this world, created us to inhabit the world and replentish it. He also established rules and regulations He expects to be followed, because this is how He created it.

But, as leftists are, they REFUSE to follow any rules and don't want anyone, including God to tell them what they should and shouldn't do. Most of them believe "If it feels good, do it." Which is also why a large marjority of them also want legalized narcotics, even though drugs (besides marijuana in my opinion) destroy human beings lives.

So basically, if God does exist, they still don't want anything to do with Him, or His rules and regulations and will REBEL at any given oppoutunity, using lies and confusion to muddy the waters. But they are kicking against the prick and only hurting themselves. Because they CAN NOT win. But they could have victory in Christ, but that would require a change of heart and mind.

-- Explaining Seemingly

-- Explaining Seemingly "Homosexual" Animal Behavior

Bonobos are a typical example of this "borrowing." These primates from the chimpanzee family engage in seemingly sexual behavior to express acceptance and other affective states. Thus, Frans B. M. de Waal, who spent hundreds of hours observing and filming bonobos, says:

There are two reasons to believe sexual activity is the bonobo's answer to avoiding conflict.

First, anything, not just food, that arouses the interest of more than one bonobo at a time tends to result in sexual contact. If two bonobos approach a cardboard box thrown into their enclosure, they will briefly mount each other before playing with the box. Such situations lead to squabbles in most other species. But bonobos are quite tolerant, perhaps because they use sex to divert attention and to diffuse tension.

Second, bonobo sex often occurs in aggressive contexts totally unrelated to food. A jealous male might chase another away from a female, after which the two males reunite and engage in scrotal rubbing. Or after a female hits a juvenile, the latter's mother may lunge at the aggressor, an action that is immediately followed by genital rubbing between the two adults.[7]

Like bonobos, other animals will mount another of the same sex and engage in seemingly "homosexual" behavior, although their motivation may differ. Dogs, for example, usually do so to express dominance. Cesar Ades, ethologist and professor of psychology at the University of S‹o Paulo, Brazil, explains, "When two males mate, what is present is a demonstration of power, not sex."[8]
