Pro-gay letter fell flat

  • Follow Letters

The letter “Gays merely want rights” by John Cashin (Feb. 22) was the lamest attempt to be cool and progressive that I have ever seen.

When did unnatural sex become a civil right? Funk & Wagnalls defines unnatural as “contrary to the laws of nature.” Homosexuality rarely occurs in the natural world because snakes know better, monkeys know better, and birds, fish, lizards and even insects know better.

Mr. Cashin states that gays have no agenda. That is the second-most preposterous statement in his letter. His most ridiculous statement is that no laws have been broken. A Georgia law criminalizes sodomy. Sheriffs’ deputies have a legal obligation to arrest any person they witness engaged in any act of sodomy.

He asks why we don’t write letters protesting rape, murder or incest. The answer? We don’t have to. Society has the good sense to arrest and jail those people.

He says “They just want their rights.” I guess he means civil rights, which are described by Funk & Wagnalls as private and nonpolitical. Do us all a favor and keep your sexual preferences private and nonpolitical.

By one reliable estimate, more than 97 percent of U.S. citizens are heterosexual. Why do we have to cater to the 3 percent? After years of research and billions of dollars spent, geneticists are unable to find a gene that causes people to be homosexual. Until we know that a person can be genetically predisposed to be homosexual, it remains a matter of choice.

Today’s gay rights movement may be the first time in history that such a small group of people have been so vocal, so adamant and so public to promote a sexual activity. The 97 percent have much more important things to attend to, such as God, family, jobs, food, clothes and shelter.

Addressing "Unnatural"

Actually homosexual behavior is quite common in nature. It spans quite a bit of the animal kingdom. I can't even begin to list here all of the species that exhibit homosexual behavior. I recommend reading Biological Exuberance: Animal Homosexuality and Natural Diversity, it goes in depth into the research on homosexuality in nature. It is generally found in species when they overpopulate. 6 billion+ people in this world definitely qualifies as over population.

Also, thanks to the SCOTUS

Also, thanks to the SCOTUS sodomy laws are constitutionally invalid. Not to mention Georgia's supreme court struck the sodomy law in 2004.

sin

God would not call something a sin and then cause you to have to do it. If it was a gene thing they would have died out long ago. Just like all our activity; it is a choice. Some who believed they were gay were treated for the bad effects of soy and then they don't feel that way anymore. They are then free from the anger and strife of that lifestyle.

Jesus will always show us how to be free of any sin and bondage while satan is out to kill and destroy. God gives us the choice to sin if we desire but He also gave a way to receive forgiveness and His advice through His son was to "go and sin no more". The peace and joy of an relationship with Jesus always beats the temporary pleasure of sin.

The gay lifestyle is also a pro-death lifestyle; just like abortion, it stops the reproduction of life.

People who know they are right on something never scream and demand to be thought of as being right. The one with the weak position always makes the most noise.

Choose Jesus; if you don't like Him the devil is always willing to take us back. By the way parents; if you want "that boy to be all boy drop the soy". That probably is true for the health of girls too but haven't seen any research or seen results of that.

@Valkyrie

"I can't even begin to list here all of the species that exhibit homosexual behavior."

.......and exactly how many of those animal species naturally PROCREATE with the same sex?

I could NOT possibly care less who someone sleeps with for pleasure, love, etc. But when it comes to voting for it to become legal which is basically saying it's morally acceptable as normal (which it isn't); I would never vote for it unless they can NATURALLY procreate, period.

Nature, dictates the vast majority of our lives and it should be the deciding factor in this as well. A perfectly HEALTHY man and woman can procreate, replentishing the world. A perfectly healthy man and man or woman and woman can do NOTHING but love one another. Guess what? They are free to do this all day and all night, no one is stopping them from doing this!! No one is trying to pass laws saying gays can't love one another, or live together, period. Get this, WE DON'T CARE!! But we will if people keep shoving this UNNATURAL stuff down our throats.

Yes, it IS unnatural. Because whether you believe in God, or evolution, big bang theory, ect. Somehow, Some way a NATURAL ORDER came about; you CAN'T deny this. This NATURAL order is that a man and woman ONLY is able to produce additional LIFE, which is the great miracle.

The day I see a man pregnant or a woman pregnant from another woman, maybe we could have a further discussion, but that will NEVER happen, as much as you hope for it, it's NOT going to happen.

@Augustaathiest

You are correct in a many ways. But just as with the gun control issue, the people are willfully asleep. They will continue to sleep until something happens that wakes them up and YES it takes a LOT to wake people up. The federal government had better tread lightly on this issue, because if they decide to legislate individual States, to recognize gay marriage as legal, there will be serious backlash.

I have no problem with your personal belief system, which obviously you don't believe in God; thats your business. But it would be dangerous for people like yourself to assume you are becoming the majority. The VAST majority of people in this Country are religious and more specifically, Christian. But, the majority AREN'T activists, but just people who want to live peaceably with ALL people, just living a simple quiet life.

The reason your side is winning, is NOT because the majority of people are believing as you do; it's because the left has used liberal judges and politicians to FORCE their will upon people. Yes, several States have legalized gay marriage but those States are liberal havens. To say the COUNTRY is going this direction, is misguided at best. Yes, Obama and his minions are trying to get people to change their minds, but don't be fooled into believing the majority believes like this. When and IF it is pushed upon a people, without their consent, there will be serious consequences.

Yes, it will take something extrordinary to wake the people up, but it will happen. You can only kick a sleeping dog for so long before he bites, its just that simple. Same with the gun control issue.

ABOMINATIONS?

CONDESCENDING SUPERCILIOUS GAY BASHER BASHING FOR BEGINNERS

Gay bashers take note: eating shellfish is an "abomination" as is homosexuality, so says, Biblical Leviticus' proclamations. Yet, we Americans cannot reject a Maine lobster tail drawn in butter. Fact is, regardless any authority, shellfish eating is here to stay and no one cares who eats stuffed crab or Cherrystone clams.

Likewise, homosexuality, permanently ingrained in our human being, is equally here to stay, will not change and must integrate with complete equality for justice to reign in our Great Nation.

Gay bashers save your breath for other bashing; such as, perhaps, adulterers. Here, God devoted an entire Commandment. Better yet: leave peaceful peoples sexuality alone and enroll in an anger management program. Then, the Gay community can live in peace and our Country will be better served.

Leave the Gay community alone. There is nothing wrong with being Gay that two or three generations of equality won't cure.

When ultra-right wing Christians denigrate the homosexual lifestyle, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an "abomination" for men; and, only men who "lie" together. I mean, nothing is said concerning women or oral sex. So, what's with involving Lesbian folks in the religious debate?

Regarding some other elements of Biblical rules and how to follow them, I also wonder:

1. Leviticus 11:10. "And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, they shall be an 'abomination' unto you." A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination; it is a lesser abomination than being Gay. I don't agree. I think an abomination is an abomination; thus, eating fried oysters is equivalent to Gay (males) on the Leviticus abomination scale. Can anyone settle this? Are there degrees of abomination?

2. Leviticus 20:20, "And if a man shall lie with his uncle's wife", they shall die childless." Is this worse than the abominations of eating crab Louie or being a Gay male? And, why does death for adultery escape God's notice here?

3. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians? Can my slaves be Gay as long as they are not Jewish?

4. I would like to sell my Daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her? Also, Since God clearly favors homosexual females (by withholding the admonishment of abomination as reserved for Gay men): do you think I could get a better price advertising her as a Lesbian?

5. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15: 19-24. The problem is how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

6. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1: 9. The problem is: my neighbors. They claim the odor is not so pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

7. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2, clearly states that he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it?

8. Lev. 21:20. "Or crookback, or a dwarf, or that hath a blemish in his eye" may not approach the altar of God. Does this include a defect in my sight? I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle- room here?

9. Lev. 21:21. "No man that hath a blemish of the seed of Aaron the priest shall come nigh to offer the offerings of the LORD made by fire." Is this the authority by which ultra-right wing Christians often state: "If he's got one drop of Jew blood he is of the Devil"? And, speaking of Aaron. How can he die twice? Once on Mt. Hor (Numbers: 20:26-29) and some time latter in Mosera (Deut. 10.6). Is there a Resurrection story missing here?

10. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?

11. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

12. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev.19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them (Lev.24:10-16)? Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair, like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14).

There are many other questions one can ask. Especially, why are ultra-right wing Christians so obsessed with Gay people; yet, ignore those who: "lieth" with his father's wife; "lie" with his daughter-in-law; take a wife and her mother; "curseth" his father or his mother, or "committeth" adultery. All as death sentence worthy, according to Leviticus, as if a man lies with a man.

Agreed, it is abundantly clear: God's word is eternal and unchanging. I mean, Leviticus has been the same for 5000 years and is not going to change.

It is we who change: today homosexuality and eating shellfish religious attention, rightfully, commands far less credence. In fact, hardly anyone knows eating shrimp as an "abomination." We long ago found that shrimp scampi and the likes were no abomination at all and too delicious to pass up. So, with little compunction, over time, we equalized shellfish with other foods we enjoy.

Accordingly, allow Gay folks privacy with equality and in a couple of generations no one will care about the present day stigmata of homosexuality any more than we notice today's diners enjoying Hawaiian prawns or poached Maine lobster drawn in lemon butter.

AA, darling, evidently you

AA, darling, evidently you didn't search very far. Most of the comments lately have been in reference to articles posted on here and guess what.....the majority have been about homosexual behavior because several of the articles published in the paper have been about homosexual behavior. Evidently you're not aware of the rules of the game, you post comments relating to the articles.

Since my life revolves around Christ and spirtual matters, I normally post on articles pertaining to that subject. I'm not into politics or local matters but do enjoy reading and learning, just don't have much to comment on them.

(AA) "People like you made the very same arguments against interracial marriage and segregation"

That's a mighty wide brush you are painting with "darling".

"Since the bible mentions

"Since the bible mentions adultery 68 times, and homosexuality about 7, I wonder what God is more concerned about? "

Well AA, since you think it's all hogwash anyway, why use it to make your point?

I've not seen (or read) any gay bashing, just a few comments that state they don't believe in homosexual conduct or believe in gay marriage. So I guess, according to you now, if someone disagrees with you, they are a gay basher? Only hypocrite, are those who want tolerance but can't give it themselves. Be careful, someone might think you fit that category.

AA, you gave up the church

AA, you gave up the church because you are a sinner not because of anything else. Let's be truthful here, you have no relationship with Christ so of course you refuse anything spiritual regarding Him, not because someone said or acted some way.

As for my power, you are correct. It is not power but the power of the one who made me. As for obsolete, you can only wish.

@Augustaathiest

You said "Thankfully, your stance is becoming more and more irrelevant and soon the Supreme Court will decide the issue."

Thank you; you just proved my point. It won't be WE THE PEOPLE to decide the issue, but a panel of mostly liberal federal judges, imposing their will upon the people. That was my point exactly; I KNOW they will do this, but it won't be by the WILL of the people. It isn't because MOST people have progressed to your view, it's because it's being FORCED upon people. Eventually, people will wake up to this.

Also the moral issue is more

Also the moral issue is more of a religious one. The religion I believe in allows for homosexuality therefore it is not morally reprehensible to me. The 1st Amendment prohibits the government from legislating from a religious standpoint.

Also, I didn't use the Bible

Also, I didn't use the Bible in my argument. I see you can NOT refute the facts I put out, so you attack the messenger. Calling me names you can't prove. Actually hurting your argument, to any common sense possessing citizen. You don't even know who I am, so how do you say I stand against interracial marriage or for segregation?

Can a Black man and a white woman procreate? Why, yes they can. Can a black man and white man procreate? Why, no they can't. What about a black woman and white woman? Why, no they can't. See, people like you who want to further your agenda without facts, just emotional rhetoric, throw RACE into the equation, and RACE has NO PLACE in this argument. Where there is ZERO doubt a person is born of a certain race, there is certainly doubt, even in the scientific community, whether people are born gay.

Whether you believe God created us, or whether we "Evolved", there are many different PROVABLE RACES. Now, show me the PROOF people are born gay, NOT just you and others SAYING they are. Also, our definition of discrimination are completely different I suppose. I've never HARMED another human being out of hate or dislike of their lifestyle. My only stance against homosexuality is that is should NOT be legalized a marriage. Other than that, it's their business what they do. But THAT in itself, is clearly bigotry in YOUR VIEW!
