Look closely at the pork

  • Follow Letters

It is disgraceful to use devastation to accomplish projects for friends of the Democrats.

Lowell Greenbaum, in his letter to editor Jan. 22 (“GOP’s Sandy vote shameful”) noted that pork and an unclean bill as a holdup for passing legislation on Hurricane Sandy relief was not an excuse. I would like to add the rest of the story of that bill.

The GOP was trying to get some of it cut out because – in this economy, which Washington has no idea how bad it is – we can run out of money! The pork included $2 million for Smithsonian Institution roof repair, $150 million for fisheries in Alaska and Michigan, $821 million for dredging projects nationwide, $10.8 billion mostly for future transit projects and $5.9 million for forest restoration on private land. Whose private land?

This pork was purposely put on this bill to intimidate the GOP to pass. Democrats like to spread ill will and accusations without giving the whole story.

You are correct; it is how they won the last election with the low information voters.

It ought to be a felony...

...to attach anything to a bill that is not directly related to, and in line with the purpose, of the title of the bill. No wonder American citizens don't trust their own government.

I'd really like to know whose private land that $5.9M was being spent on!

You know that tax on the "rich"?

Well, it all just went toward that bill on Sandy. Really did a job on "debt reduction", didn't it. Speaking of "debt reduction", that $1.4T that Obama talks about as his spending reduction all comes after he leaves office. Now what future president and congress is going to allow themselves to be hogtied by Obama? He has implemented no cuts, except defense, that will occur during his "reign".

Both sides are equally....

guilty in the abuse of pork packed bills.....

They both need a good butt kicking, but I'm pretty sure that's never going to happen. Somehow, we don't see it as offensive when we benefit from it.

What do you expect from "put

What do you expect from "put it on the tab" Obama?

News flash: Gas prices headed back up due to Obama and the fed printing more worthless money. The value of the dollar is down and it takes more dollars to buy Arab oil. Worthless money....no Canadian pipeline to help with dependecy on Arab oil. Amercican consumers - 0....Democrat "kill this country" policies - 2. Gas going to $3.75 a gallon or more shortly.

Darby, I couldn't agree

Darby, I couldn't agree more...

It doesn't matter what party they represent, we need to clean house and get those crooks they call our representatives, senators, etc. out of OUR government. I realize maybe 5-10% aren't corrupt, but I can guarantee the majority of our government officials ALL get kickbacks and vote for the good for their bank accounts, and they DEFINITELY don't work or vote for the good of the people.

Start from the very top and clean house all t he way down to the very bottom. I'm a conservative democrat, don't vote on party lines, and I have disdain for politicians on both sides of the party lines.

If you ask me (which no one did, but I"m gonna say it anyways) - I don't think there should be different parties. There should be a United States of America party - not Republicans going against Democrats. I thought we all wanted the same thing??? But it definitely doesn't look that way.....I hate to be pessimistic, but we have no chance...

And chascushman, I guarantee

And chascushman, I guarantee I know a dozen people...

....that voted for Obama that is much 'more informed,' with much more education and intellect - than you. Just because a person was forced to vote for the lesser of two evils - they aren't all ill-informed, or 'low information voters' as you put it.

But I'm sure you're right, if all those 'high information voters' were able to gain enough support to get our almighty savior Romney into office our country would be THRIVING right now. We wouldn't have the majority of the world hating us, we wouldn't have the HUMUNGOUS DEBT our great grand children will have to deal with, our credit rating wouldn't be going down......it would be UTOPIA.

WHAT WERE THEY THINKING??? ROMNEY WOULD'VE SAVED US ALL!!!

Give me a break....it's getting old...

Talk Show Propaganda at its best

The Bill - all of full of "pork" - was introduced into the house by a Republican and approved by 20 Republicans in order to pass. So, what are we talking about here? I'm confused.

No point in being confused.

No point in being confused. The Dems controls the news outlets so those "bad ole " Republicans have no choice but to go along with a bill that the Democrat Senate has already approved. Talk about propaganda!!

I agree with Gary Ross; my

I agree with Gary Ross; my very thoughts. The bills are completely deceitful. The most prime evidence of this is the Health Care Bill. How many pages?...between 2700 and 3000. No bill should have more than one subject or one purpose. Too many compromises, too much confusion, and way too much deceit.

Politicians don't care about Sandy Hook or the latest storm. They use the people and the circumstances to promote their own agendas. It's totally disgraceful and should be illegal.

After reading your comments I do not consider you an expert on ‘more informed’ people. Most people do not really know Obama.

Romney would have been much better than the Marxist/communist, racist that is in the WH. His mentor for about 8 years during his very formative years was ‘Frank’ Marshall Davis. Davis was a racist, communist, child molester and I’m sure he would be proud of his student.

To be painfully honest...

....allhans, Democrats don't control the media, but they don't need to. The media in America, beginning with our journalism schools and permeating the print and broadcast organs are the shrine at which Democrats worship. They don't follow the dictates of Democrats, it's the other way around.

This all began in the sixties when "Uncle" Walter Cronkite, known at the time as "The most trusted man in America" turned his back on our troops in Vietnam and began to campaign against us.

The rest of the media soon fell in line. The media has since only moved further left and the Democrat party has gleefully followed not just the media, but the radical left of that era to the detriment of the nation and it's people.

Only some unexpected epiphany, in my opinion, can possibly get America back on track. Without that, I fear we are going to spiral down to third world status before we hit rock bottom.

you hit the nail on the head, brother. Nobama doesn't need to chase the media. The media can't kiss his....................ring enough.
