Does the chairman of the Richmond County Democratic Party, Lowell Greenbaum, really believe that the congressional Republicans that he named in his letter (“GOP’s Sandy vote shameful,” Jan. 22) enjoy seeing “aching faces and shivering folks”? Does he really believe that these gentlemen would deny aid strictly because the afflicted are from another part of the country? It is vitriolic lies such as this that have caused so much division in our country. Shame, shame on Lowell Greenbaum for doing such a disservice to his state and, more importantly, to his country.

The truth is; it doesn't matter if he believes it or not because that isn't the point of his letter. The point of his letter is to take a cheap shot and demean republicans by distorting the facts. Mission accomplished!! So, what does it matter whether he actually believes it or not? This has become the typical strategy of the left; which is to marginalize those on the right. Paint them as extremist radicals therefore no one listens to them. If you can't defeat the right with facts and common sense reasoning, don't let that stop you; attack the messenger personally!! Well, it's working...........for now!!
Democrats do better when voters are inspired. Perpetuating divisiveness only discourages voters and lends statistical advantage to Republicans.
Jon Lester. The last two presidential elections strongly contradict your assertion.
Good letter. Greenbaum is alot like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. He likes to use inflammatory language to stir the pot.
Greenbaum is just following party orders. Say ANYTHING to demean and destroy the Republican party before the 2014 elections. Obama wants the last two years with total control. If you think Obamacare was expensive and intrusive, wait until you see what he has got in store for you with his climate control Carbon TAX. And immigration reform.......blanket citizenship for anyone who swims the Rio Grande. Gun control......kiss any magazine fed weapon goodbye.....permits and high taxes for ammunition.
There is an agenda and Lowell Greenbaum is following orders.
Have these vanguard Republicans been sleeping for twenty years like someone else I read about in School? Republicans, or should I say Used-to-be Democrats from the South, are the progenitors of gutter politics. Wake up and look at yourselves in the mirror. You are no real Americans. I know real Americans. They work to unite, not to divide, as you have done since Nixon.
par 3..I sincerely hope that you aren't being serious. What an absurd post.
as is so much the case these days, a broad brush stroke is painted because of disagreement on both sides. lowell means and does well to keep our party in shape, but his logic sometimes misses the point.
Well said dichotomy. He is just another PUPPET following his little orders!
I wouldn't worry about this too much. Being the chairman of the democratic party in Augusta, GA is kind of like being the assistant equipment manager of the high school wrestling team.
Par 3....what party did the man who told the Latinos to "punish their enemies" belong to? I'll give you a hint...he's the current President.
Greenbaum can always be counted on to live down to our expectations of him...
Sadly Greenbaum's diatribe does reflect badly on the GOP but that is because images and emotions trumps truth and logic. Blocking
aid to Sandy victims superficially appears rather callous and that image seemed to trump the truth of all the pork-or the rationalization that all this pork is still acceptable. Same problem with gun control-Kids get slaughtered, attack legal gun status with kids surrounding you with emotional appeal whereas truth is the suggestions would not have prevented any of the recent violence nor address real issues. I remember all the complaints of Bush and the Patriot Act and yet silence with Obama abusing the act further. The silence is deafening. What I find sad is any true "American" supporting the first President to ever orde the assassination of an American citizen without due process. That alone is just obscene. Further he has a hit list still. Yet he will complain about due process for detainees at Gitmo. No logic to this administration at all. No tolerance for a patchwork of immigration laws yet marijuana laws can patchwork all it wants. That's just crazy. Then we need to limit one constitutional freedom in gun control all the while arguing gay marriage is a freedom that needs to be protected. It's bipolar-one minute love freedom then suddenly hate freedom.
Hillary did say yesterday that there was a lot of confusion...
Manufactured for sure.
grew out of and was a classic example of the advice of soldier and military theorist Carl von Clausewitz, who said "The best defense is a good offense".
In politics it can be roughly translated as, admit no mistakes, accept no criticism, attack those who question your position.
That advice works particularly well when you have the major media outlets in your hip pocket.
