What does sheriff think?

  • Follow Letters

In the wake of the shooting in Connecticut, many county sheriffs and police chiefs across the country have gone public on their stance on enforcement of gun control orders and unconstitutional laws. One sheriff in Oregon had gone as far as to write an official letter to the vice president stating that he would honor his oath of office and to the Constitution, and would not enforce any unconstitutional laws.

When are the residents of Columbia County going to hear from Sheriff Whittle on this subject? Would it not be responsible reporting for The Augusta Chronicle to inquire of Sheriff Whittle what his stance is, then print it?

Getting the sheriffs to

Getting the sheriffs to proclaim their positions would be interesting, but it would just be public relations if the federal government makes us federal felons. Do you think, for instance, our local Democrat sheriff who will probably be applying for federal grants to get him a new SUV every year is actually going to proclaim he would not enforce federal law. Regardless of what they say now, it is what will they actually do if the feds knuckle down on their money to twist their arm to enforce some unconstitutional executive order.

It's been reported that quite

It's been reported that quite a few Sheriff's are entertaining the idea of making it a misdemeanor offense for a federal agent to come into their County and enforce unconstitutional federal laws. So the local authorities would be arresting federal agents. Wow, are you serious? I will say it again and again; if they go further with this gun ban issue, attemptiong to enforce a TRUE ban, it would result in massive insurrection. We would be the closest to Civil War as we've been, since the Civil War.

Whatever any elected official......

has to say must be taken with a grain of salt. Any comment on the subject made by a politician will be a natural outgrowth of his (her) reelection prospects.

For example, Democrats from strong states rights areas will vote to support the 2d Amendment and Republicans from areas where liberals hold sway will be inclined to "compromise" to keep their seats.

In the final analysis, this battle is going to be won or lost out here in the real world.
