Build pedestrian bridge

  • Follow Letters

What’s a life worth? A million dollars? With a thousand people or more crossing Reynolds Street at the TEE center each year and no crosswalk or light, someone is bound to be hit or killed. Then will commissioners build a pedestrian bridge?

I can see the lawsuit: The city will be sued for negligence for not building a pedestrian bridge, and the settlement will more then a million dollars.

Rain

Ten to one Mr. Williams is a Marriott employee who has a long-term parking pass in the new parking deck on Reynolds St. He just wants a way into the building so he doesn't get wet on rainy days.

People have been crossing

People have been crossing Reynolds to get from the parking lots to the thier workpalces for many a year and I don't remember it being a killing field. Stop lights, crosswalks, etc. should be quite adequate. The old "look both ways" thingy works well too. If they ain't smart enough to cross the street they probably ought not be traveling to strange and exotic places like Augusta.

Really, Larry? How many
Unpublished

Really, Larry? How many people have successfully sued the city because they've been hit on Washington Road? That would be a whole mess of pedestrian bridges to cover that road for the liability you perceive. I'm guessing Larry might be in the pedestrian bridge building business.

Pedestrians...

only have the right of way at marked crosswalks. If you are dumb enough to step in front of traffic then a pedestrian bridge wouldn't help you. You have already proved you don't have walking around sense. The problem is people are impatient. I have seen it numerous times while waiting at a crosswalk on Broad. While waiting for permission to walk several people will walk anyway..

Crosswalk and light

There is a crosswalk and light between the new parking garage and the convention center. Corner of Ninth and Reynolds.

Did the AC forget a disclaimer for this article?

"Advertisement" "OP Ed" "A Paid Political Pro-River Front Comment".

A question to the Martinez writer.
How often do you use the parking deck?
Do you work nearby and use the Parking deck also?

Hilarious..

Do they even have any thing booked at the TEE center? I agree, if you're to dumb to look both ways, then you deserve to get hit.. My six year old knows that..

Parking in the median

In downtown Aiken half the people have to jaywalk to get to their cars. I don't recall any fatalities.

Now if some idiot wants to dart across 4 plus lanes of Whiskey Rd or Richland Ave at night or even ride a bike with no lights, he is taking his life into his own hands.

Just last week I was coming home from work. Within 60 seonds first one idiot ran across the 4 lane road in front of the Walmart on Richland. He was difficult to see. Then a darkly dressed bike rider with no lights turned the corner going west out of one of the entrances to Walmart. Both were fools.

Had these two idiots been hit and killed, the drivers would not have been charged. But the drivers would be scarred for life.

Bridge to no where

The shallow end of the gene pool needs to be dipped out regularly. Look at what we have there now; junkies, criminals, lazy bumbs, liberals and worse. Issue snow plows to those who have to drive in the CSRA and award points! Yes even a good dog gets hit every now and then, that is called colateral damage.
