Gun argument misses mark

  • Follow Letters

This letter is to correct the one Jan. 6 by Thomas J. Zwemer (“How to regulate?”). His quoting of the Second Amendment to the Constitution was incomplete and his explanation wrong.

The Second Amendment states: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

When the Framers of the Constitution were debating the Second Amendment to the Constitution, they were looking to the governments of the past and the possibility of ones in the future. History had taught them that unarmed societies are subjects, susceptible to tyranny and not free. The reference to militia has nothing to do with a National Guard. The National Guard is a government organization created in 1903. The militia in the times of the Framers referred to organized citizens to defend the state or their communities against invaders. Also they saw the need for the people to have the ability to remain armed as a protection against a future tyrannical government. They feared this because of the histories of past governments.

As the late publisher John Basil Barnhill said, “Where the people fear the government, you have tyranny. Where the government fears the people, you have liberty.”

The question to society now is not whether to blame guns and regulate them more, but whether to enforce the laws that are already on the books. It also would help if we would start holding people accountable for their actions instead of making excuses for them.

The current administration is so hypocritical when it comes to this issue. The Justice Department under this administration is responsible for the gun-running operation Fast and Furious, which is responsible for placing guns in the hands of Mexican drug cartels.

Progressives are antithetical

Progressives are antithetical zealots equal to but opposite of conservatives if you want to categorize groups. Independents will rule and the extremes will be marginalized. Well maybe that is wishful thinking. Although I am a christian I wouldn't want a theocracy or to force a morality from a single religion (christianity or islam) on people (because that is antithetical to freedom in government and antihetical to Christ's message of the individual choice to be accept him and ascribe to biblical morality and qualify your past actions as "sin" to be forgiven for). Society dictating a morality is always a failure-it has to come from the individual and then groups of individuals in agreement (I doubt you could force people to be altruistic no more than someone to be gay).

Techfan's 03:02 pm post is an excellent example of what happens when you tear apart a liberals posts with provable facts. They resort to name calling. To even thank God that people he disagrees with are dying off is repulsive of him, if I do say so myself.

Progressives are so

Progressives are so violent-wanting people dead or wanting a civil war. Perhaps they should just forbit progessives from owning guns-theywould likely fail a psychological exam with such a blood lust. Oh but they don't care about guns as a hobby or hunting so "they" decide to poo poo it. Progressives are the new "moral majority" hmmm "neomoral majority". Hee,hee, hee.

Slight problem. The far right

Slight problem. The far right extreme is in control of the GOP. A moderate gets slammed in the primaries. Sitting Senators and Representatives are voted out so the farthest right wing crazy runs for office. With too many safe seats (gerrymandered) that means they have an automatic spot in Congress. The south is solid right wing. No matter what crazy, out in space thing, a GOP candidate comes up with, it doesn't matter, the bubbas will vote him in. Look at the crowd of Presidential candidates: Bachmann, Santorum, Cain, Paul, Perry, and the disgraced Newt. These people had no clue about any blessed thing. I really have doubts if Bachmann is even sane. Santorum would be happy turning the country into a theocracy and being led by the American Taliban. You got Mitt because he had more money and outlasted the others (and he's been running since at least 2006 so he had the boots on the ground). Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck, Savage, Ingraham, Coulter, on and on. Beck and Savage have a tenuous grasp on reality, if at all. Look at Alex Jones on Piers Morgan's show. He's crazy as an outhouse rat, yet has over 2 million listeners. Here's your modern GOP:

You seem to be confusing

You seem to be confusing being happy that there are less racists, homophobes, etc., through natural attrition (all of us will eventually pass on) with wishing ill on someone. That is not, and will never be my intent. Face it, the demographics of the US is changing, and I believe it's for the better. Less hangups and less hate sounds good to me.

I don't think anyone who

I don't think anyone who supports a president who, after 4 years and an addition $6 trillion debt, refuses to discuss spending cuts and is insisting on another $6 trillion in debt over the next 4 years, should ever talk about someone else having a "tenuous grasp on reality". If you want to see a 'tenuous grasp on reality" just look at Democrat fiscal policy, Democrat energy policy, Democrat Ethanol policy, Democrat permanent unemployment policy, Democrat "lowering the cost of health insurance" policy, Democrat never pass a budget policy, Democrat "let's ban something even though it won't work" policy, oh this gets tiresome but you get the picture. Having a "tenuous grasp on reality" seems to be more of a Democrat thing.

Let Me Add....

...to Dichotomy's fine list, the Democrat policy NOT to win wars. Iraq is pretty much back in the hands of islamic terrorists and Afghanistan will soon be back in Taliban hands, women treated like dogs, or worse, all of t he Afghans who worked with Americans slaughtered, and a total and complete waste of all the blood, lives, and treasure we've invested over the past eleven years.

"Less hangups and less hate sounds good to me."

If only the hypocritical left actually had less hate, like the profess, it WOULD be good, but we all know that is not the case. For example, the irrational hatred of lawful gun owners.

About the "Deadly wound" I

About the "Deadly wound" I was just throwing some thoughts out there. I highly suggest people do their own research and form their own opinions of politics and Biblical scripture.

But about George Soros; There is no conspiracy involved in that TECH. I've QUOTED his OWN WORDS and his own statements of his intentions. He admits his intentions are to bring America down, in order to usher in this New World Order. It's FACT that he has visited the White House on five different occassions as a personal guest of Barack Obama. It's FACT that he stated "the only obstacle to a stable and just world order is the United States." It's also fact that YOU along with HIM hate the United States, as evidence from your numerous posts demeaning the US and it's history. Calling us a violent Country, when the fact is, we are NO MORE violent than any other Country. How many suicide bombings do you see going on in our streets? I suppose you wouldn't call that violence, since it doesn't happen here. YOU agree with his plan and are just trying to continue to plan of covering it up until the right time. "Nothing to see here folks. These are just right wing religious idiots. Pay no attention to them. They are the same folks committed genocide on the indians and enslaved blacks. Do you really want to listen to them?"

Why has the debt gone up $6

Why has the debt gone up $6 trillion?

US Government spending by year:
2008-$2.98 trillion
2009-$3.53 trillion
2010-$3.46 trillion
2011-$3.60 trillion
2012-$3.80 trillion

Obama's term didn't start until 1/1/2009 and the 2009 budget was created by George W Bush. Not a lot of increase in spending, especially if you account for inflation. What happened? First we cut taxes on 6/7/2001. Then we had 9/11/2001, that caused an economic downturn. We started a war with Afghanistan 10/7/2001. On 3/20/2003, we started the Iraq War. The on 5/28/2003, we doubled down an had even more tax cuts and sped up the ones from 2001. In other words, we cut taxes twice while starting 2 wars instead of raising taxes to pay for the 2 wars. Then 12/8/2003, we had The Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act which cost billions.

Revenue:
2008-$2.52 triliion
2009-$2.10 trillion
2010-$2.16 trillion
2011-$2.30 trillion
2012-$2.47 trillion

Gee, I wonder how the debts gone up?

Soros?or

No questions about the debt ceiling, no offsets required on spending, no questions about the debt, no questions about secret energy meetings, no questions about wars, no questions about gun running to Mexico, no questions about SCOTUS being hunting buddies, being flown free and getting freebie resort trips or forgetting a million or so paid by people who have cases before the court, birth certificates, fictitious parts of UN treaties, but NOW your concerned. Amazing how the amount of concern increases as the amount of melanin increases in the President.

Great analysis Tech-the only

Great analysis Tech-the only problem is Obama has maintained these failed policies of tax cuts (the wealthy taxes are nothin'), expanding govt and spending, and more stimulus. So Obama's strategy is to fix our problems with the failed policies he opines against. He should raise everyones taxes. How could the middle class complain without looking like unpatriotic hypocrites? It is all about wealth redistribution-from us to the govt. Hee,hee, hee.

"Amazing how the amount of concern increases as the amount of melanin increases in the President." The Irony. Only a blatant racist would make such a correlation. No one cares about his gender, age, or ethnicity. Sad state of affairs when people failing to make meritous arguments resort to wishin' folk dead, or makin' disparagin' remarks and graspin' at straws (or strawmen). Hee,hee, hee.

I am afraid Techfan may be correct for once

I am afraid Techfan may be correct when he said the Liberals are winning with the next generation and we conservatives are dying off..He is prophetic and doesn't know it, The verse belows accurately described the people in charge today.

2 Timothy 3 But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. 2 For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, 4 treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power ; Avoid such men as these. 6 For among them are those who enter into households and captivate weak women weighed down with sins, led on by various impulses, 7 always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

@RMSHEFF

You're correct on that aspect. Even the most conservative radio show hosts are predicting a MAJOR defeat for the conservatives in 2014. The Democrats will take the house, its a given. When congress has a 9% approval rating, you can bet something major is going to happen. The democrats have done a brilliant job lying, demeaning, attacking the right for their beliefs.

Tech is right in some ways, especially that they are winning and shall continue to win more battles. The republican party is a bunch of weak, spineless cowards who won't stand strong for anything. They are fighting more among themselves than anyone else right now. The President continues to blame EVERYTHING on republicans, evidence in his speech yesterday. He takes ZERO blame for anything himself and with people like TECH, blindly believing everything he says, no wonder he won't. BUT, do not fear because this too is prophecied of in the Bible; "There shall come a falling away".

Tech says that more people are leaving the old beliefs and that MIGHT be true but I don't think so. I simply believe more people are giving up. The facts don't lie, the vast majority of this Country still claims Christianity. But there are two points about that; They are either becoming spineless Christians who don't want to stand strong or they are detaching themselves from the political realm, which I personally know many that have choosen this path. They say "What can we do about it?" So they do nothing, which is just as bad. They just sit around and wait to be RAPTURED out of this world. They refuse to make a solid stand. So, the left continues to win more and more battles and this shall continue. But what's it worth to win a few battles, if you CAN NOT win the war? Just remember, confusion is Satan's biggest weapon. He confuses the people, where even weak Christians don't realize the difference in right and wrong. Those weak Christians don't even know whether they should stand against certain principals, as evidence of "Churches" agreeing to start marrying homosexuals in States where it became legal. Confusion is a hard thing to overcome. The only way to overcome confusion is with TRUTH, God's TRUTH, which isn't being taught in 90% of the "Churches" today. With "Pastors" and "Churches" teaching the world is only 6000-900 years old, the races came from an incestrial affair and other such garbage. You can't fight confusion with lies and more confusion.
