Big announcement from Bass Pro Shops recently: A store is still not coming to the Augusta area. Instead, it will build stores in Emerson, Ga., and St. Johns County, Fla.
Our economy still must be the worst in the Southeast – at least that’s the story it sounded like Bass Pro gave before putting the plans for a local store on hold several years ago. Maybe it thinks nobody wants Bass Pro to build here.
If they decide not to build here, we can always try to get a Cabela’s. The last I checked, it doesn’t have any stores in the South. Maybe the Augusta area will be its first.
But hey, who needs 'em? We've got Sports Academy, Sports Authority, Dicks, and a whole skad of mom and pop, gun stores/pawn shops. America, don't ya just love it?
With almost half of the geographic area of the county in decline and the sales taxes going to 8%, I'm not surprised. Maybe they monitored our most recent commission elections too. It don't take a genius to Google Marion Williams, 5 - 5 stalemate, and the paralysis of his last term. I hate the fact that they aren't coming but I understand completely.
EVERYTHING IS CHEAPER IN NORTH AUGUSTA. Especially starting tomorrow. Good luck with that extra sales tax thingy certain DOWNTOWN districts inflicted on us. Between that and Marion coming back, I wouldn't locate here either if I had a choice.
SHOP IN NORTH AUGUSTA FOLKS. A PLEASANT 10 MINUTE RIDE TO LOWER PRICES, LOWER TAXES, CHEAPER GAS, AND A SAFER PARKING LOTS.
