Children face crucial choice

  • Follow Letters

My first inclination the day after the presidential election was to be angry and, in dramatic fashion, swear to leave the United States on the next flight anywhere. Instead, I thought of my children, and I had less fear in my heart and more resolve.

I have reared my children to be responsible, courteous and kind; to work hard; to celebrate success; and to give when they can to those in need. They face a society that celebrates mediocrity; gives awards to everyone who shows up for the race; and shirks responsibility.

The Clinton administration may have tainted the country’s sexual values, but the Obama administration has elevated denial of responsibility to a new level. Blame the last administration. Blame the rich. Punish the successful. Blame the job-makers. Blame the energy creators. Celebrate the takers.

By the next presidential election, my son will be of age to vote. He will be a high-school graduate, a college student and will have had a job or two. He will have paid taxes, purchased gasoline for a car and paid utilities. He will have felt the pinch of seeing a paycheck he worked for whittled down by taxes to pay for entitlements. He will see lower salaries, fewer jobs and higher rates of poverty and depression.

He will have a choice to make. He will have a future wife and children on his mind, and my teaching in his heart. He will not be alone. His friends will have the same choice. That choice will propel them in the course we have strayed so far from – what worked, and what gave birth to this nation.

Good one!

Yes indeed. Apparentky somebody heard that during the Truman years the White House was rebuilt and that led to assumptions being made.

Some Folks Turned Left

RA, what is this "day such and such, and the sky is still in place"? What did I miss that makes you say this day after day? It really is quite annoying, mainly because I know our sky is always going To Be(stay) right where it is! To Pal; Hey, I am entertained every day by eel and his left-field buddies, sometime they even make me laugh.......

If all of us hardworking conservatives left the country, you and all the other liberals would starve . You would be looking around for someone to take care of you. Maybe Barack would save you. America would be a third world country in one year.

"I wonder what the dependency class will do if all of the freedom loving producers actually DO leave... Just wondering."...............it is already happening; back before I retired (4 years ago), I paid an average of $180.00 per week in various payroll taxes. Now retired on Social Security......I pay no taxes, heck, I am not even required to file a tax return anymore........that comes out to $9360.00 per year !!!! More and more taxpayers (baby boomers) are making the decision to liquidate and retire early because the incentives to keep working versus the tax hits are so widespread that we no longer wish to put up with the hassles. Get ready liberals, the "pie" that you baked up will soon be sitting in front of YOU!

To EEL, we ARE leaving, not physically (THIS is still OUR country); but we are leaving the "system". opting out of the system allows us to revert down to the minimum tax base where all of the "give me my share" folks reside, that allows us also to pay little or no taxes. Sure, we are dipping into our retirements early, but we are no longer having to support YOU and those LIKE you...............

The choice to stay or go may sound retorical to you but the people making the decision to cash it in will leave quietly just has the well to do will not advertise movement of assets. For those that can removing incentive to stay might turn a trickle into a stream leaving a smaller pie to divide.

No need to leave.

The wealthy folks will not let the liberal politicians take there money. There are many ways to avoid taxes including moving money to other countries. History shows that every time the Federal government raises the tax rate above 28% people will adjust investments and income to avoid taxes and the revenue to the government falls. Tax rates between 20% and 24% raise the most revenue, therefore if the rates are raised to 30% expect the federal deficit to climb. Obama's plan is not about raising revenue or deficits, it is about punishing the wealthy, ie (fairness)

EXACTLY !!!!!!!!!!! And if they raise tax rates and raise the death tax rates the increased flow of those retiring to reduce their income will turn into a flood. And they will be spending their retirement money to prevent the government from getting it with the death tax. We will be living large and the gimmee crowd will be like "what happened". I wish them luck 'cause I don't want to play anymore. They ain't got the brains god gave a Twinkie factory employee.

EEL, that is EXACTLY the point; the liberals want "their" pie; let 'em have it..............they based their recipe on baby boomers supporting it no matter what; well, us baby boomers are saying no thanks to your recipe and moving out. If you don't have enough left for a big pie..............SORRY !!!!

Boomers are the last vestige

Boomers are the last vestige of what America is/was about. Some of us have children reared the same way, and are hopefully carrying on.

So, Obama can afford a $40

So, Obama can afford a $40 mil estate in Hawaii. He makes a bunch of money,,,,, but?

He didn't afford it. His crony capitalists did. More "Do As I say, not as I do."

Well..

This nation is still a beacon. If you want to succeed and have the passion to do so there will be nothing to stop them. We need to get behind the President and help him. He won so it's our duty to help our country.
This country is still the land of opportunity, you can go as far as you want to if you have the drive!!!
