There goes our country

  • Follow Letters

“There goes the neighborhood!” That is what my grandson said, following the announcement that President Obama had won re-election Tuesday.

Unfortunately, I don’t think that he realized the gravity of the situation. It does not stop with the neighborhood. Those who voted Obama back into office will come to rue this day! It will be the town, the city, the state and our once-great nation!

In four more years, they will not recognize this nation, our flag, the Constitution of the United States of America or any of the principles upon which our country was founded. Woe be it to those who scorn logic, common sense and God!

Ok - I'll start - I'd rather be out playing

Let's be proud in our country" Okay- what does that mean? Supporting our democratically elected President?
Our boys died in Libya
We have Valarie Jarrett talking w/the Irans
I did lose lotz of money after the stock market finally had some gonads
I know we are going into a depression like you (how old are you) have never even seen

"I lost [a lot] of money on Wed" Okay, and?
I've been putting hard money into that stock, and I'm sorry it's gone - part of my retirement.

"I fear we will fail" Fail in what? Losing money? Being proud of our country? It's the economy - don't you see it! Nothing to do w/being proud, we can't take care of our vets now.

"I'm sorry for my children and grans" And why is that? Because you lost your money? Because you're proud of our country?

"thankfully they are on the path that our Father's taught us." Does this still mean you are sorry for you children and grand kids?

Too much to explain - I was trying to tell you that my children were raised with their Father's - God; our Father - Father of the Constitution; and their own Father's - TMI

Read The Very First Words

of his victory speech and tell me what you see wrong?

OBAMA: Thank you. Thank you. Thank you so much.

Tonight, more than 200 years after a former colony won the right to determine its own destiny, the task of perfecting our union moves forward.

This is someone who may be an American citizen but he sure isn't an American. He does not know beans about America. 57 states, Corps.

I would be willing to wager any amount of money if you were to ask him what the 13 stripes on the American Flag stands for, he would not know. This is the human that this great Nations has given the position of POTUS. So Sad!

Everything will be ok

Republicans need to stop crying and help the democrats build this country up. It is not your country to take back because it never went anywhere. The people voted for President Obama, so lets come together and support him. I did not agree with or vote for President Bush but I supported him when he won the election. I still believe their are some closet Obama voters.

the day lyndon baines johnson was sworn in as president. he killed over 58,000 Americans because of an insatiable ego, lack of leadership skills and pure insanity. james earl carter, the Racist turned "reformer", was so inept, he slept through crisis after crisis. william jefferson clinton couldn't keep his zipper shut and wouldn't tell the truth which spearheaded a coup by Republicans that saved the nation. barack hussein obama is simply a charismatic, inept Racist who will lead America down the same path as Argentina 100 years ago.

Some real good common sense thinking about what the future holds about our proposed health care.

The media commentators all agree on one thing: The re-election of Barack Obama guaranteed that his signature piece of legislation -- ObamaCare -- is now likely to go forward.

However, there is a silver lining that no one is talking about. There are 6 major flaws in the legislation that are so serious that Congress -- both Democrats and Republicans -- will be forced to face them, whether they want to or not.

ObamaCare is not paid for. At least not in any politically realistic way.

ObamaCare promiases what it cannot deliver. In order for the country as a whole to get more medical care, there must be more doctors and nurses and hospital personnel - something that ObamaCare does not create.

ObamaCare mandates and subsidies will destabilize entire sectors of the economy. We could see entire firms dissolve and re-combine, just in response to health insurance subsidies, rather than based on economic considerations.

ObamaCare creates perverse incentives that threaten the quality of care. Within the newly created health insurance exchanges, insurers will profit from healthy enrollees and incur losses on the less healthy.

A weakly enforced mandate will undermine the health insurance marketplace. The fine for being uninsured will be small, relative to the cost of insurance. And there is not much the IRS can do to people who ignore the mandate, other than withhold refund checks.

A strongly enforced mandate will strain almost every family budget. If we are required to buy coverage and denied the right to scale back benefits, chose higher deductibles, etc., health insurance premiums will crowd out more and more of the average family's budget.

So, when the doctors stop seeing senior patients, when the hospitals leave the market (as one in seven will in the next eight years, according to the Medicare Actuary) and when the insurance plans cut back on the benefits they are providing, there will be enormous pressure on Congress to reverse all of this. And most inside-the-Beltway folks are firmly convinced they will be reversed.

A New America

William Zimmerman wrote : "In four more years, they will not recognize this nation, our flag, the Constitution of the United States of America or any of the principles upon which our country was founded."

What a relief.

Within four years, maybe the poor will actually have a shot at a better life. Maybe the rich will pay their fair share of taxes. Maybe corporations will no longer receive welfare through tax breaks and subsidies. Maybe a college education will be provided for all. Maybe Americans won't reach for a gun as the answer to everything. Maybe we'll take better care of the environment. Maybe our health will dramatically improve, because we can all go the doctor and have preventative measures implemented.

Maybe prisoners won't be treated like animals and maybe prisons won't be run for a profit. Maybe diversity will be embraced and racism will die a quick death. Maybe gay citizens will be treated just like everyone else. Maybe women will receive equal pay and keep their bodies free from government control. Maybe religious zealots will finally shut up.

Mr. Zimmerman, I sincerely hope your statement about this country changing is absolutely true.

The poor

Have been given a better shot at life for decades. They used to take advantage, but many no longer do. They are comfortable enough now not to try to better themselves. Why do they make poor decisions, become mothers of countless illigitimate children. They can be supported by the taxpayers and live a pretty good, pretty high on the hog's life thanks to baby daddies who aren't required to actually support the children.

The Poor

@KSL - If this is what you really think about poor people, I really feel for you. You've bought the right-wing rhetoric hook, line and sinker.

Any one of us can find ourselves in the streets after losing a job and missing a few mortgage payments. A family member can become sick and medical bills can wipe out every nickel of savings. There are folks using food assistance benefits that NEVER IMAGINED they would face such a choice.

Yet, those on the right still believe that poor people choose to be poor. That they enjoy asking for help and going through the humiliation of government red-tape and the probing into one's private life. Conservatives still believe the "Cadillac-driving welfare mama" lie that Reagan told.

Let's get this straight - NO ONE WANTS TO BE POOR!!!

You cannot imagine the despair and hopelessness one must feel when faced with empty pockets. It is not a privilege to be poor; it is a curse. So, for right-wing conservatives to keep blabbing about mothers and illegitimate children is sickening.

They can't...

...argue their point. That is what makes them resort to name-calling...by attempting to discredit YOU they are attempting to discredit your opinion...Rather than trying to change your mind with facts and logic....The reality is they do NOT live in reality. But a made up idea of why they think reality should be....and while THEY tinker with Their " idea of reality we all suffer....jerks!!
I hope that one day Liberals will be something we see in museums, and not something we have to deal with on a daily basis....
