Finally -- elections are over

  • Follow Letters

The elections are over. Hooray! The signs can come down and Augusta can look like the Garden City again.

All of the TV political ads – especially those for U.S. Rep. John Barrow and his challenger, Lee Anderson – can be deposited in a toxic landfill, and we can give the “mute” button on our TV remote a rest.

Now what?

Maybe the winners will keep their promises and the losers will work with them for better local, state, and federal governments. Maybe the Democratic Party will find a way to properly honor departing Richmond County Sheriff Ronnie Strength for his outstanding service by remembering that he had the individual right to decide his endorsement and vote. Maybe we can answer the telephone and find a real person on the other end – maybe even someone whom we want calling.

Finally, maybe we can speak without worry that someone might find us politically incorrect.

The elections are over – praise the Lord!

At least run run off left. And before the signs come down, the next election is already a priority for both parties. Plans for fund raisers are brewing. "Buck Slips" are being printed and stuffed. Reflections on failures and hopes for the future of career incumbents are paramount. The focus is how can I keep this seat. How can I avoid the downward curve of society in general? Be a part of the ruling class? YES

That is a late March event. The Annual Mowing of the Trash Festival. No efforts will be wasted in picking up trash before the mowers arrive. King Deke will again be blessing this event via satellite from his manicured lawn.
