Finally -- elections are over

  • Follow Letters

The elections are over. Hooray! The signs can come down and Augusta can look like the Garden City again.

All of the TV political ads – especially those for U.S. Rep. John Barrow and his challenger, Lee Anderson – can be deposited in a toxic landfill, and we can give the “mute” button on our TV remote a rest.

Now what?

Maybe the winners will keep their promises and the losers will work with them for better local, state, and federal governments. Maybe the Democratic Party will find a way to properly honor departing Richmond County Sheriff Ronnie Strength for his outstanding service by remembering that he had the individual right to decide his endorsement and vote. Maybe we can answer the telephone and find a real person on the other end – maybe even someone whom we want calling.

Finally, maybe we can speak without worry that someone might find us politically incorrect.

The elections are over – praise the Lord!
