Spread that gold around

Hey! Don’t you think Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps ought to share the wealth? Sheesh – 22 Olympic medals? Wasn’t he simply lucky to get so many medals? Shouldn’t we be demanding that he pay his fair share? What about all those 99-percenters who weren’t able to win any medals? The government should do something!

Those gold medals are only

Those gold medals are only worth around $640 each. Phelps does have to pay taxes on them and on the monetary prizes won, as well as iincome from endorsements, public appearances, etc.. It's no different than winning a car on The Price is Right. It's all counted as income, as well it should be

What about those poor swimmers

What about those poor swimmers who did not make the cut for the Olympics. Shouldn't Phelps share some of his medals with them? After all, they are victims of inadequate training or lack of access to a pool. It is unfair for Phelps to have so many medals.

We've had almost 4 years of Obama's "redistribute the wealth" and "hope and change." Look how wonderful everything has turned out. The PC language for winners and losers has even changed. Look at awards shows. They no longer say, "And the winner is..." Its, "And, the award goes to..." Winning and achieving has become just something for the liberal politicians to rant about and try to slap with more taxes. Thanks Barry but we're tired of your "hope and change."

If you guys want, I can go

If you guys want, I can go get the video of Romney saying Olympic athletes did not get there on their own, they owe their success to their friends, family, community, public parks and training centers.... just saying...

Wealth redistribution isn't a

Wealth redistribution isn't a solution to wealth disparity. If you don't earn it with effort you don't appreciate it. What we need is more opportunities for the poor and middle class to succeed and become wealthy on their on. Creating animosities between socioeconomic groups isn't productive (it's marxist). We need unity and to clear the playing field of opportunity, better education and training for high skill and high paying jobs. The ole teach a man to fish analogy. It isn't fair to take from one group to give to another no more than to take something for nothing. (we use to call that stealing). Our economy isn't a fixed piece of pie but an infinity of opportunity. The next Gates and Jobs will likely be some middle class individual who comes up with the next great idea or business (likr the Facebook kid). If that individual were placated with govt subsidized redistributed income would they be motivated to come up with a great idea or work hard to build a successful businees. Human nature likely indicates a big NO. My wife and I were relatively happy with our income till we had a bunch of kids and that motivated us to increase our income to provide for them. We need motivation. If you aren't motivated to get an education then you won't ever be educated. Given the number of foreigners who come to our country and succeed with their children being better off than they, it is a clear indication that America is still the land of opportunity-it just isn't the land of motivation it use to be.

"You Olympians, however, know

"You Olympians, however, know you didn't get here solely on your own power," Romney said after congratulating the athletes. "For most of you, loving parents, sisters or brothers, encouraged your hopes, coaches guided, communities built venues in order to organize competitions. All Olympians stand on the shoulders of those who lifted them.".

Communities built venues using tax dollars. Venues being things like parks with tracks and fields, tennis courts, pools.

Bizkit~once again....

I grew up very, very poor...then I made very bad choices and ended up as an adult living in an old log cabin with no running water and even the electricity wasn't adequate to use an electric stove. No HVAC, using a chainsaw and an axe to cut firewood for bitterly cold winters, 2 babies and cooking on a woodburning stove...I decided to go to college, thank you all you taxpayers for paying for part of my education and for making student loans available to me. I earned a BBA, Accounting. Today, I am a business owner who employs 27 (and counting) and I am making my own way in this world. So DON'T tell me there is no opportunity for the middle and lower wage earners to get ahead...if they really want help and not a handout, it's there. Go get yours and leave mine alone and stop dreaming up excuses.

the name may say it all, but how in the hell do you figure Phelps should have to pay taxes on Olympic medals??I guess he did not sacrifice enough blood ,sweat and tears to deserve not having his pockets picked by a government that has gone way past sensible in what is taxed, what is fair income and what is not. A little bit of cutting back foreign aid to every nation on the planet would be a good place tro raise revenue. Before you start up about treaties ,and all that be mindful that the concept of saving and taking care of the U.S. should be the new mantra....while our best out do them in any and everything.Taxing a gold medal won by an individual is ridiculous, period.

Love this LTE...

....to illustrate absurdity by being absurd, is "worth it's weight in gold"......the point is....to the left,"earned achievement" is to be squashed and punished at every turn....we are only allowed to thank The Imperial Federal Government ONLY for everything we have.
Any other form of achievement is to be demonized and branded as "greed"...
