University name 'insulting'

  • Follow Letters

I was a student at the Junior College of Augusta in 1945 and 1946. Fifteen years later, I returned to Augusta College, where I received undergraduate and graduate degrees.

I am so proud of the history and treasured traditions of this college and the Medical College of Georgia. How sad that anyone could be so insensitive and insulting to reject the name “University of Augusta” – instead choosing to merge Augusta State University and Georgia Health Sciences University under the name “Georgia Regents University.”

I do not support or accept the new name.

Martha McGowan Tudor

What's in a name?

No one supports the name except the ones it is named after.............

Thank you for your letter, Ms. Tudor. The name "Regents" is truly hideous, because it shows the pompousness, the vanity, the arrogance, the egotism, and the narcissism of the members of the Board of Regents, who arrogantly ignored tradition and named a university after themselves.
