Are we now preparing to get involved militarily to bomb and attack Iran on a strong suspicion that they are developing nuclear arms?
There are at least 10 countries with nuclear arsenals, some of whom have threatened us over past decades. We never have assumed that right to attack them because of their threats. We do have sufficient retaliatory forces to make it suicidal for anyone to attack us, to be sure.
Yes, our recent Mideast policy – in the past 11 years – was triggered by the massive al-Qaida attack on our country on Sept. 11, 2001, and we responded appropriately against their Afghanistan sanctuary with international support. However, expanding the war into Iraq with limited forces, again, was questionable even among our own military leaders. Saddam Hussein wasn’t our enemy – he was Iran’s enemy, remember?
We have drained our resources for 11 long years to near-bankruptcy. President Obama and now Mitt Romney guarantee our military will be unleashed against Iran at Israel’s urging to block Iran’s nuclear arms development, with Romney saying “this should be America’s highest national security priority.”
We have no international support for another preventative war.
