Keep fighting name change

  • Follow Letters

As reported in The Augusta Chronicle on Aug. 25 (“Governor, regents get complaints about name”), Gov. Nathan Deal’s office stated that “only” 512 people (voters) had reached out and communicated to him in a negative manner about the name of our new consolidated university here in Augusta. The current name for the university is Georgia Regents University, or GRU.

I implore each and every citizen dissatisfied with the current decision regarding the GRU name to please contact our governor and let him know that there are, without a doubt, more than 512 people who are dissatisfied.

Gov. Deal’s office may be contacted by the following methods:

• Telephone: (404) 656-1776, or (404) 657-7332

• Email via website, at gov.georgia.gov

• Mail via the Postal Service:

Office of Gov. Nathan Deal

Atlanta, GA 30334

I keep telling y'all how to

I keep telling y'all how to handle this is to let them have GRU as the umbrella name if ASU and GHSU can keep their individual names. ASU Jags remain that. But all the satellite med school campuses and so on can be called GRU med campuses. That should make everyone happy and no one loses face.

For some reason everytime I post this idea I get lots of thumbs downs. Someone explain it to me. Do you not want GRU even as an umbrella name? I'm not saying I like that name, but just trying to find a way to keep ASU and MCG (or whatever).

name change

Riverman1, I heard that idea for the first time this week. That would be better than nothing, but I still would rather have a better name overall. Your idea is definitely worth looking at- if the regents won't throw out GRU. Thanks for posting.
