Azziz needs to be examined

  • Follow Letters

As a former student at Augusta State University, and with my wife as a graduate of the Medical College of Georgia, we respectfully will not be able to donate alumni funds to an institution that took advantage of the CSRA’s goodwill; promised that our input would be valued as to the new name of the combined colleges as long as “medical” was not in the name; and held the name to a three-word limit.

Georgia Health Sciences University President Ricardo Azziz was dishonest in not admitting to us that another criterion was that “Augusta” also would not to be considered. He also ignored a $45,500 survey by Kennesaw State University; did not disclose the full survey results to the Board of Regents; and pushed his belief that the word “Augusta” was too parochial, too local and just not cool – without any survey or scientific data to back up that claim! No up-and-coming researchers would be hired at GHSU if that was the way they made research decisions.

Yet Azziz is immune from the people and community that built these two great institutions? It seems that the doctor “doctored” the naming process; now we should get the governor and Board of Regents to “vet” Azziz!

Mark Tribby, D.V.M.

He was vetted and is the president of a consolidated univeristy. If you have a beef with that...don't blame Azziz.

D.V.M. and Mark Triby

I agree. I have a feeling he wouldn't be picked to play on any Trivia teams, especially if they included local subjects.

Vetted as president- somehow I missed something.

He was vetted as the president of a medical college. I can't recall where he was ranked but I seem to recall he was ranked about as highly as GRU relative to the alternatives.

He was not vetted as the president of a comprehensive university. I doubt if you review his vita that he would have even been a finalist for a president's position at a comprehensive university.

In reality, the current president of ASU is more qualified to be a president of a comprehensive university with medical programs. From what I have read she has actually been there and done that.

Perhaps if Azziz had her qualifications and experience we would not be having this uproar over the naming. Better yet, perhaps she would have had more wisdom than to push for the consolidation from the start avoiding the imminent disaster ahead for ASU and GHSU.

Selection as president.... an interesting question.

Thinking further about palmeto1008's post, I am left with the following questions:

Why would the Board of Regents select Azziz to lead the consolidation of these institutions? If the goal is to reengineer ASU and GHSU into a comprehensive research university- why not hire someone to lead the process that has experience in an institution similar to the desired end state? Why would you select a CEO that has no experience in the type of organization you are trying to build?

It does not seem to make much sense if objective was to position these two universities for success. The whole presidential appointment issue raised by palmetto1008 leaves me a little perplexed.

Dr. Azziz

Easy, have anyone ever thought that it may have been Dr. Ozzie  idea and plan all along to consolidate Augusta State University will Georgia health Science University in the first place...?

Armed with this knowledge Savannah State University and Armstrong Atlantic University was able to alleviate the process of their universities being consolidated. The Georgia Board of Regents had to stand down to the Savannah civic and public pressure.

One last opinion. For Dr. Ozzie to be president of the comprehensive university in question is a conflict of interest. Reason being Dr. Arizziz dose not have the students best interest while serving as CEO called the Medical Hospital which consists of salary and wage employees. At the same time serve as president of the overall comprehensive and medical University. Being the president of the university it's that person's number one priority is the welfare other student body concerns. Concerns in which Dr Ozzie shows no interest in.

It's A Good Thing The KKK Descents Are loosing Culture

Dose Dr Ozzie have the best interest in the consolidated university student body in mind for the future... ??? As the President of the university ...???the anwser is "NO"... !!! As the CEO of the medical college of Georgie hospital medical center...??? The anwser to that question is also a big fat "NO HE DOSE NOT"...!!!

You don't have to be a student at MCG to understand that there is not a real college atmosphere of a campus life style. What is the aravage ratio between students, facility, administrators, workers and employees...??? Compared to other universities in the state of Georgia? What other activities on campus beside learning how to care for hospital patients? What nonmedical  contribution  does the university contribute to be a gust community? To help you understand what I'm talking about without going into more precipitate, let me ask you a question. As an university does MCG contribute to the city of Augusta in the same way as UGA contribute to the city of Athens...??? No it dose not. Dr Ozzie know that he could not ever begain to create that type of an environment for the campus of MCG. And in my openion this is the reason why he Dr Ozzie is the one who really went the Georgia university board of regents about the  consolidated Georgia universities and colleges.  just as he (Dr Ozziz) did with the sounding of alarm and red flags about a  potential shortages of physicians and doctors in a state of georgia in the near future.

With ASU to be consolidated with MCG this would not solve the problem fro Dr Ozziz it would only be cosmetic. Because as CEO of MCG Hospital Dr Ozzie only internist is to build a hospital with something that is'nt needed like into a cancer research hospital when University Hospital is already the regional cancer research hospital in this part of the southern United States.  Rather than something like university of Iowa's gene therapy research hospital. just an example..

So if 12:12 p.m. is to early to drink how about around 9:45 p.m.?
