Don't squander goodwill

The University System Board of Regents selecting “Georgia Regents University” as the name for Augusta’s new combined university looks to me like parents naming their child “bread” or “mattress,” since we need them and they are part of our lives, instead of naming them “Joseph,” “Mary” or “John.”

Georgia Health Sciences University President Ricardo Azziz has shown leadership very early on into his tenure, but he should not become unpopular locally. He should do whatever it takes to get the name of the combined university changed to include “Augusta.”

By the way, I admire and congratulate Augusta Chronicle Publisher William S. Morris III, who resigned from GHSU’s Board of Visitors in protest.
