We recently had the opportunity of meeting and speaking with Lee on a number of issues, and found him to be extremely knowledgeable and well-educated.
He opposes the transportation special-purpose local option sales tax because it’s a tax increase on taxpayers, but he supports increasing tax revenue by creating more taxpayers.
He opposes the county spending in excess of $50 million on projects that the state is to maintain. He said this sets a bad precedent, and allows the state to continue spending irresponsibly because Columbia County taxpayers will “bail it out, again.”
He said if he were a commissioner, he would have fought to grant Abilene Baptist Church its requested 16-inch variance instead of making it spend $50,000 to resolve the matter – money that could have been spent helping others.
Lee Benedict pledges to hold at least one town hall meeting each month so he can keep people informed and hear their concerns.
He told us the county’s debt is more than $170 million, but pledges to return 50 percent of his commissioner’s salary to the county’s debt services, hoping to send an important message. Now that is admirable!
We trust Lee Benedict and believe that his honest, sincere and articulate nature is exactly what this county, state and country needs. Please vote for Lee Benedict on July 31.
