Why the hatred for Obama?

Why do so many Americans hate President Obama? The easy answer is, it’s the economy. The middle class is poorer; unemployment is still way too high; and a great many homes are now worth less than their mortgages. We must not forget, though, that this was caused by the worst financial crash in 80 years and the bursting of the housing bubble, which happened months before he took office.

He immediately got a stimulus bill passed that put about 3 million back to work. He got a law passed that should reduce the risk of another crash, and General Motors would not be in business today without his action. In his years, most months have shown good job gains, totaling to date about 4 million. He tried to do more, but got no help from Republicans in Congress, who made clear that their primary objective from the very beginning was to limit Obama to one term.

Maybe it was making a start at providing access to health care for everyone, a necessity to addressing the exploding costs of our health care. It is something other modern societies have – liberal and conservative alike, without exception – and all at a much lower cost than us.

How can that be bad?

Maybe it’s the storm of negative ads. The Supreme Court recently read into the Constitution that corporations have the right to spend unlimited funds for political ads, without disclosure. Billions of dollars have been spent attacking President Obama. It would be no surprise that this storm of negativity has influenced many ordinary, hard-working citizens. Repeating a lie often enough tends to make it credible.

Maybe it is his mixed race being a constant reminder that the United States is on the way to becoming far more non-white than a lot of us are yet prepared to accept.
