Doesn't anyone understand?

  • Follow Letters

President Obama told us that our health care would cost less under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. He either deliberately lied to us or he was too naïve to understand!

Is anyone stupid – yes, stupid – enough to think we can add more than 30 million new people, cover everyone regardless of pre-existing conditions and reduce the cost of health insurance?

Does anyone not know that someone has to pay for it?

Does anyone not think that only 1 percent of all Americans will see a tax increase as a result of Obamacare?

Does anyone not understand that you either buy insurance or you will be taxed to pay for your insurance? That’s every individual – the poor, the middle class and the rich. Yes, that even includes you!

Will anyone actually vote for Obama in 2012? Unfortunately there are Democrats who will vote for a jackass running on the Democrat ticket before they would vote for the best Republican ever born. I had a Democrat tell me that in 1954, and unfortunately he did every four years for the rest of his life. Evidently he was not alone. I would say “Wake up!” but it’s hopeless!

November may be our last chance to save our country from being fundamentally transformed into the European style of government Obama promised.

May God help us if we do nothing but watch as Obama is re-elected. Get involved and do everything you can to save our country, before it is too late!

Richard T. Banks

Wow ... double anti-President Obama LOE's in one day

While not a record for the Augusta Chronicle, glad to see that you're back to your usual standard. The bell has been rung: remember conservative posters, double thumbs up/points to anyone who can use: ‘lame-stream media, Muslim, socialism, communism, totalitarian state, the downfall of America, lord and savior, SMNCICBHO, and racist’ in the same sentence.

Shameful

Mr. Banks wrote: "May God help us if we do nothing but watch as Obama is re-elected. Get involved and do everything you can to save our country, before it is too late!"

Let me get this straight - so because President Obama wanted every US citizen to have equal access to healthcare, the country needs saving?

Perhaps the letter writer would prefer that poorer Americans continue to decide between seeing a doctor or buying food to eat. Maybe the idea of making folks wait until their medical ailment has advanced to the point of being incurable, is the Republican concept of healthcare. Maybe the idea of being able to save a life through preventative medicine is so abhorrent to conservatives, they think the nation must be "saved" from this government-sponsored punishment.

For a political party to parrot so many phrases about 'sanctity of life" and "family values", yet not give a flip about struggling Americans who have no healthcare, who can't buy medicine or who wait until the last minute to see a doctor for serious ailments, it sure seems like life isn't very valuable to conservatives, unless that life comes wrapped as a fetus or a wealthy adult.

If anything is destroying this country, it is greedy, heartless conservatives who are more concerned about their personal wealth than helping their fellow man - and you can add to that mix those elected "leaders" who would rather see President Obama fail than moving the country forward.

Shameful.

Mr. Banks Truth is Wasted on the Foolish

Mr. Banks you wrote a very fine letter but it is will only matter to those who can somewhat think logically and with an open mind. Unfortunately, this country is made up of a lot of people, millions in fact, that are so eager to believe the lie that the truth seems foolish to them. Granted, I have heard some Republicans sound almost as bad as they push their point. I know that President Obama is not the Anti-Christ and certainly not the author of evil and from time to time may have a good idea. But neither is he the Messiah that is here to save the day and give everybody free healthcare, write off all your debt, and so on. Mr. Banks we can only pray that the other Americans will wake up enough by November to realize there is no such thing as a "free lunch".

The election is BIG. We are at the tipping point for America as we know it. The have-nots will be using the trailer steps for firewood if the Democrats win. We need a mobilization of conservative voters like never before.

I want everybody in America

I want everybody in America to drive a Chevy volt to keep the planet green, and save GM. WOW let me snap my finger turn around three times click my heels together and the money magically appear, right? Well the Supreme Court just blew a hole through the budget for Obama's "want". Obama can no longer shove the cost onto the states like he planned. Not only that but now it is called what it is a TAX. So once again Obama lied to the American people. The left is trying to spin out of this is a tax so hard they are looking like the dizzy idiots they are Obama lied purely and simply, Obama was saying it wasn't a tax while his lawyer was arguing before the Supreme Court it was a tax...It is plain and simply now observed that Obama and the Democrats think we are idiots!

The poor have Medicaid,

The poor have Medicaid, therefore they are insured and the ACA expands Medicaid. People on Medicare are insured and the ACA gradually closes the doughnut hole saving seniors up to around $3,500. Tax credits are provided for those up to 400% of the Federal Poverty Level, so those that aren't insured by their employer can afford to buy it. And exchanges are created so that there will be affordable plans. Most Americans have insurance through their employers anyway, so they are insured. Mr. Banks seems to think that the uninsured do not currently receive healthcare. They do, often at the emergency room. As an RN, I've seen it often. The hospitals don't just offer care out of the kindness of their hearts. The cost for those unable to pay is added on to everything else. Now, instead of a diabetic coming in to the ER in DKA (and running up over $10k in medical bills), they can visit the doctor regularly and keep the disease under control. Gosh, I don't possibly see how that could bring down costs.

"having access to" and having something "rammed down your throat" is two different things. No one should have to choose between food & medicine. That's the drug companies faults. Again...the biggest winner here, are the "entitled crowd", that don't work, WON'T work, do not CARE about taxes since they don't pay any, anyway. The liar in the White House disgraces the office for which he works, deceives even who support him. The Bible speaks of people like him. A Democrat will vote for the devil if he's a Democrat. Hummmm

I guess the poor should be hopeless, have nothing, never strive for anything and I guess be happy about it, right? While the people who are working have houses, cars, and extrememly expensive clothes, phones, and services they can't afford but they don't count, only the poor should be in utter shame and watch the grass grow.......

Think of your wait at any government office...think of the rude incompetent government workers you have to deal with in any government office. Welcome to your "healthcare nightmare" I can only imagine the red tape, long waiting lines and rude incompetent people you will have to deal with when you have to seek medical care. Our forefathers would be ashamed to see that the very reason they left England is the norm for ALL politicians today...TAXTAXTAXTAXTAX!!

That's today...not 2014.

"Most Americans have insurance through their employers anyway, so they are insured"

Sorry Techfan......that's today but will not be the case in 2014. Employers are already lining up to cancel their health insurance and pay the TAX penalty. And in 2014 the next words from the government's mouth will be that the TAX penalty is not high enough to cover the costs and that TAX will be DOUBLED and TRIPLED. And the "tax credits" will not come anywhere near matching the increased costs of healthcare insurance. Do the simple math. And the "tax credits" are coming out of somebody's pocket so they may well get a "credit" but their income tax rate will go UP. I'm sorry but the mathematics do not add up and any simpleton can see it. The CBO has already admitted that Obamacare will cost DOUBLE what was projected during the midnight legislative process that passed it. None of the TAXES to pay for Obamacare have been adjusted to pay the DOUBLED cost YET but they will be shortly after implementation. Oh yeh, your point about Medicaid being expanded is NOT a sure thing. Some states are saying the will not do it since the SCOTUS struck down the provision that allowed the federal government to punish the states by withholding Medicaid funds. And some states are saying they will refuse to set up the exchanges. Whether they do or not, TAXES are going WAY UP at the federal level and at the state level if they decide to expand Medicaid. The bill for this is HUGE

And now we find out that Justice Roberts CHANGED his vote after the conference based on political and media pressure and his concern for the "image" of the court. So now we have an UNCONSTITUTIONAL law shoved down our throats by Obama, the Democrats, and an image conscious SCOTUS. We can no longer trust the Supreme Court of this land to uphold the constitution. My confidence in SCOTUS is zero and I have nothing but contempt for the Chief Justice Roberts. The American people no longer have ANY protections left. The politicians can now do ANYTHING to us and attach a TAX to it and it will be upheld as constitutional based on the pressured, changed vote of Justice Roberts. Americans should fear and detest this ruling regardless of their feelings about Obamacare.

Right wingers grab and hold

Right wingers grab and hold on th conspiracy theories don't they. If you want to deal with facts: Scalia and Thomas got trips to resorts paid for by groups opposed to the law. Thomas's wife worked for groups opposed to the law ( and, being the great legal scholar that he his, he didn't comprehend the disclosure form and managed to leave her million and a half or so income off for around 20 years).

TechFan, Your comment is

TechFan, Your comment is much too generous with the taxpayers money./ The do-nut hole in Plan D begins when a participant has reached $2800.00 (the majority never reaches this amount), the participant then pays if or when they get to $3700.00. The $3700. will gradually go up over the years until it reaches $4500.00.
None of this is anywhere near the $3500.00 that you are throwing out there.

I will ask all Obama

I will ask all Obama supporters, Was Obama and his administration lying when they argued before the Supreme Court it was a tax or was Obama lying when talking to George Stepie? Obama can't have it both ways! Expand Medicaid? The Supreme Court ruled the Federal Government can't force the States to expand medicaid so now the Federal Government will have to shoulder the cost. This whole mess was front loaded, $500 billion from medicare and taxes collected but not paid out for the first years. So the states that opt for medicaid and expand there programs are going to have to cover more costs as the full program is implemented and many states ( such as California) are going broke. I know Obama will say money really isn't money it is the leafs of trees and the states can go pick leafs to fill the budget holes this piece of garbage will creat. That is why many states are opting out of the Medicaid expansion and letting Obama and the marry marxists he surrounds himself with pay for it!

Giving away other people's

Giving away other people's money is not compassion. I always think of David Crockett when he was in Congress opposing a bill that would provide charitable donations of taxpayer money to the widow of a naval officer. He instead proposed to give money from his own pocket, one week's pay, and asked the others in Congress to do the same. They did not give from their own pockets, because they did not have compassion. They just wanted the power that comes with redistributing other people's money. Nothing has changed.

I have been on Medicare for 22 years and Techfan is right I would not want to go back to a private carrier. However, unlike most I know that i am getting a free ride, one that I don't deserve. I know that my grandchildren and their children will be paying for my health care and that is just not right. I have no choice, however. The law says that, if I want health care, I must use Medicare. To you people out there that don't understand the problem I say "shame on you". You are selfish, self centered people who only care about yourselves. No one should be paying for mu health care but me. That also applies to you whoever you are. How much longer do you think that our government can be handing out freebies before it goes broke. It will, you can count on it as there be no one left to feed the hungry beast. Now, you socialist out there give me all thumbs down that you want. You are the ones that are wrong, not me.
